I want that sort of player.

Merrett more wing, McGrath more HB, Shiel more HF, Parish, Brayshaw, Stringer/Hobbs/Caldwell the inside types.

A player like Brayshaw just makes the team look more balanced, doesn't need to be him.

McGrath at half back is almost as bad as Heppell. He does not seem have retained any of the speed he has as a kid.

Odd take, he's clearly still quick, closing speed never been an issue and he reads the game so well when the game is in front of him.

I've seen no recent example of his speed to think he'd be a great running player at half back. He's much heavier than he was when he was ruining the game's best small forward in 2017.

He's not a great kick of the ball either.

The space to run into from half back is different so maybe he is still quick and the nature of his midfield play has not allowed him to display his speed.

He gets under the ball so much when he kicks, high and loopy.

Have to say I have not really seen him use his speed from half back so far this year either. Not like he has taken the ball on the outside and had a bounce too often so far. In saying that he spent more time in the midfield last week than he did at half back. I have no issues with his kicking on the run but I do have an issue with how often he kicks around the corner without looking.
A actually like him when he plays forward. He has decent goal sense.

Will Brodie had a decent outing for the Dockers tonight and Matthew Kennedy has been playing exceptionally well for the Blues so far this year. I wonder what Mitch Hibberd would have been like for us if we persisted in playing him in the role he should have been brought into play instead of trying to turn him into Tom Cutler.

that Brodie deal will work out nicely for Freo

Brodie + Johnson for a 2nd.

Angus Brayshaw has put his contract on hold apparently.

Wants to stay at Dees but unsure if they can afford to pay him close to market value with big deals/extensions paid and Luke Jackson coming up, so he would have to take well below market rate to stay.

The LITERAL type of player we need for our midfield. If there is any chance to pry him away as a FA, we should go for it.

Would be top 3 on my list
1-Taranto
2-Dunkley
3-Brayshaw

To many head knocks unfortunately

if we offer them as a bundle we might get half a chockie bar for them
You'd be lucky to get a kick up the arse for them both.
I reckon Francis would attract a 2nd.
He's a decent defender.

Typical of us that we had 2x forwards struggling for form, so we turned them into defenders, and now we have a top pick defender having to find form as a forward.....

We couldn't give him away couple years back. I'd be surprised if anyone was any more interested than getting him DFA, and even then...

Indeed, this was his draft notes. Sounds like exactly what’s happening now. Was perplexed when we picked him.

The South Australian was one of the most prominent players at the mid-season carnival, dominating in defence and also being a match-winner in the midfield and up forward. Francis' standout trait is his marking: he is a beast one-on-one, and likes to float into packs and take intercept grabs. He is a powerful and imposing player who has a streak of aggression, and he has ambitions of becoming a midfielder in the future. Francis will need to improve his engine before he does that, but his capacity to control a game as a third tall is impressive. Quietly spoken off the ground, Francis plays with ferocity.

He actually has looked quite capable when playing as a third tall. He just isn't as good at it as Ridley.

I do think we can fit them both in the defence long-term, but they kept trying to play him as the 2nd tall and he just couldn't get it done.

Agree with this. If we end up able to have Laverde and Reid as our KPDs in the medium term, we could have Francis and Ridley both play that intercept role and have it work. We effectively do that now with Ridley and Heppell.

Yeah I remember. He’s a got great hands and a knack for getting to the ball. He really should be playing back tbh. We sometimes lack that third key match up, and he excelled at that. Ridley is better when he’s aloud to roam and intercept when he wants to.

I'd like to see Ridley in that Heppell role as the spare defender, with Francis playing the 3rd tall alongside Stewart & Laverde to see how it works.

Without Francis our forward-line gets pretty crowded though, Jones is the only other true smart leading forward that makes space for Wright at the moment.

On paper this is our best defence

- Kelly Laverde Hind
-Ridley Reid Redman
Francis-7th man

Lacks a little pace but it’s decent. Heppell stole his spot because he’s cooked and can’t be in the middle any more. As well as using spud Stewart, the corpse of Hooker etc.

He should be back there.

Ridley Stewart/Reid Kelly
Hind Laverde Francis

Given Jones is both 20 and injured and Baldwin is 19 and coming of 2 years of injury, if we're so shallow on tall forwards, play Phillips up there.
and ask the question of the list mgmt dept wtf is up with the KPF depth (and where is our FB while you're at it)

Take Redman out. He can't defend.
I think McGrath back or Cutler or Francis and go tall-ish.
