If we are going at inside mids buried under depth charts, Ely Smith from Brisbane is worth a look.

Highly touted when drafted, but had a couple unluckily timed injuries (just before R1) and buried behind a deep midfield.

Dale Tapping would have a relationship with him as Brisbanes old midfield coach aswell.
Smith yes . Like him. I suppose it will depend on where we finish and what sort of draft picks we have.

I have no inside info whatsoever but I think he could have been had for minimal trade value in last year's period, though limited list spots might have made that a non-starter for teams. He's a fair fair way back in the midfield rotation I think, and would only get a gig if we had multiple inside or outside types go down.

So 4th round pick?

We've got a chunk of OOC players this year (assuming Footywire is accurate) so it would be a good time to bring in a few extra guys like that as well as the Davey twins and whoever else gets drafted.
Yep, this is what I have. Nearer to the bottom = more likely to be cut

Percentages are 'available games played' – so it doesn't count against them if they're injured.

We'll give you Devon Smith for him. Please? Oh come on, it's a great deal for you!

I doubt Melbourne could match a 750k by 4/5 year offer for Brayshaw, we'd just need to convince Gus.

What more convincing does he need?

Are we just using this as our draft thread for the year Lore?
There'sa draft thread, just hasn't been used yet due to the fact that there's only been one round of under 18's so far

What we do need is a bit more speed around the ground. A friend and fellow supporter mentioned it to me a few weeks ago and I though nah at the time but when you look at it we are average pace wise. Our midfield is just above average and without Walla there is nothing much in the forward line apart from Wanganeen but he is pretty raw.We drafted Lord who has pace but is a fair bit away.

I floated the idea last year about wanting a guy who was a capable half back flanker that had the scope to push up to the wing.

Essentially a kid version of Tom Cutler who has the scope to develop into a serious player.

With a bit more pace. Young Isaac Smith type would be good. It was the reason I was not totally against Josh Sinn.

Is pace over rated? I'd like a wingman to have a good kick rather than speed if deciding between the two.
It is not over rated if the only bloke you have with pace outside the forward line is Hind. Smith is a good kick. You need to be able to break the lines. When we had Saad and Irish we could kick a decent score even though of team defense was average.

True that !

Is our back 6 not as dynamic as it was last year or is it just compounded by our midfield negligence to defend?

I don't recall Redman taking that risky kick in the first 3 rounds or Ridley biting off more than he can chew. Hind making a domineering run like last year

Redman is down in confidence and in the round 1 debacle the midfield was missing in action so we have looked bad. Sides have been almost tagging Hind with their forwards having him under pressure nearly every time he has the footy.

...Would we really cut McDonagh? Surely we drafted him knowing he was a long term project?
I don’t think we’d cut him first up no.

It’s sorted by contract end dates, games played, and then by age, so logically if you’re nearer the bottom you’re more likely to be a mature player who is out of contract and not getting games. It is usually more telling at the end of a season than at the start.

In the case of McDonagh he was drafted as a mature player to plug a hole in the line, so I think he’ll get a couple of years (this year and next) at the least. Might not get more than that unless he’s established best 22 by then though. If he’s not getting games then he’ll go the same way as Mitchell Hibberd and countless others.

James bell is one I’d look at trading for at the end of the year, won’t cost too much. Good pace and skills.
