Have a mate that watched Casey vs Williamstown game on the weekend. Said Taban did a good job on Ben Brown. I can’t find the score so not sure what Brown kicked

I think we lack a decent tall defender with Reid still an unknown. taban could be one for VFL watchers to keep an eye on

I forgot to like. I was just intending to supplement what you were saying.

$700k to $750k a year vs, what, $500k to $550k? It's a lot but not that much when you're trying to coax a guy out of what appears to be the earlier part of a premiership dynasty. The Brayshaws are a loyal bunch, from what I understand, and they're extremely solid citizens. Then you throw in the post playing network.

I don't think you get Brayshaw's manager to talk to you for less than $850,000. He's 'reduced' to being a role playing wingman and half back at the moment. It wouldn't surprise me if he pushed a Brownlow or 2 if he was given the time to play in the middle.
Mmmmm... I'm not sure you offer 850k to a guy to play an inside role whose success has primarily been found playing on a wing.

Bad take. Plentyyy of players that don’t have the tools he has.
I'm pretty comfortable in saying that. Bloke is soft, doesn't find the ball all that often and has kicked multiple goals once in his 5 year career, playing almost entirely as a forward.

Whats shiel worth?

Probably less to another side than he is to us.

We're not getting massive trade offers for Shiel, and it would set us back to a shallower group of genuine midfielders.

We're likely better off keeping him than trading him. He's played some massive games for us, but people just remember the bad kicks.

I liked his game on the weekend

Would like to look at how we unleash it further.

Shiel's been awesome this year. Starting to build some continuity after a couple of injury interrupted years. Merrett and Stringer out might be a blessing in disguise for all of them in terms of building chemistry. Shiel and Andy have started to work well together, as have Caldwell and Parish.

Whats shiel worth?
Whatever we get i imagine lose when he leaves.
Just need to find the midfield to unlock his forward running.

I think its caldwell, parish and shiel. Ideally we find out in the near term.
The other part is how bad is our depth if we let him go ? We had zero AFL listed midfielders play VFL last weekend.

We have quite a few players who are available to us through Father Son and NGA. Davey, Munkara and Misiti seem the most likely.

Getting an elite Key Forward should be our priority.

Alwyn Davey Jnr
Anthony Munkara
Josh Misiti
Jaiden Davey
Matt Foley
Carlos Egan

List spots may be an issue.(main list)
Ham - done.
Heppell - maybe retire but may not.
Hurley - depends on if he gets back on the park and what he does but retirement is on the cards.
Cutler - would be unlucky.
Francis - has to find some form and do we need him going forward as a half back.
Geulfi - fringe but is one of a very few that plays with a hard edge.
Stewart - another who does a reasonable job but may get squeezed out.
All fighting for a couple of spots.
Eyre and Brand the longer term prospects that we will get more of a look at as the year goes on but have not had much of a chance to get games and develop. We could delist and rookie but someone else may have a look. Personally would prefer to keep both.
Would be keeping Phillips as he is a cheap back up.

Brand and Eyre were always 3+year projects in terms of development due to their body types and not playing u18s due to Covid.

If we weren't committed to extending them past their 2 year draft deals then it was short sighted list management to draft them.

Better served as key defenders as well imo.
