...Would we really cut McDonagh? Surely we drafted him knowing he was a long term project?

2 games in it is but he doesn't look like much. I wasn't expecting the world, just hardened professionalism at the lower level and he's been average in the contest and looks to me to almost panic with the ball at times.

A fair few quality inside mids OOC. Surely Essendon go hard for at least one?

Dunkley
Green
Taranto
Brayshaw (FA)

Brayshaw the best option in terms of draft picks. Green if we're going to spend big.
I'd be stoked if we got Green but I don't think his contract is up until the end of 23 so we really would have to spend.

Brayshaw would be awesome but I don't see why he would leave Melbourne, at least not while they're a unit at the top of their game.
We'd offer good money plus I'm sure he would prefer to play a genuine inside mid role rather than languishing out on a wing. I also think Melbourne win the flag again this year so you could mount the argument that once he's won 2 flags, he's "done it all" and it might be time for him to secure the bag.

Would you trade McGrath for Green?

Remember it's Melbourne.

Their network has been dormant for a long time but if any club has a run of establishment money and influence to ensure premiership players are looked after when they retire.

I understand wanting to change the dynamic of our midfield. I don't understand why we do that by getting rid of the one who's actually good defensively.

Oh, didnt realise Melbourne was an old boys network in that vein.

I forgot to like. I was just intending to supplement what you were saying.

$700k to $750k a year vs, what, $500k to $550k? It's a lot but not that much when you're trying to coax a guy out of what appears to be the earlier part of a premiership dynasty. The Brayshaws are a loyal bunch, from what I understand, and they're extremely solid citizens. Then you throw in the post playing network.

I don't think you get Brayshaw's manager to talk to you for less than $850,000. He's 'reduced' to being a role playing wingman and half back at the moment. It wouldn't surprise me if he pushed a Brownlow or 2 if he was given the time to play in the middle.

For perhaps the best midfield prospect under 24, who happens to be the tall, big-bodied midfielder we're after? Absolutely I'd trade McGrath. Your attitude is simply sunk cost fallacy.

Nah uh. I asked you first.
I just feel he has become the whipping boy that Parish was this time two years ago.

Would you trade McGrath for Green?
I might get dragged for this, but yes without a second thought. I like McGrath, but Green has the potential to be the best player in the comp one day. He's also exactly what our midfield needs. Just imagine Green, Hobbs and Perkins in the same midfield.

Put it this way. Daniher would be wearing Sydney colours right now if Green was available in the open draft.

I agree with this sentiment

Why wouldn't you trade for a [player that has the scope to become one of the best players in his area of expertise that also happens to be an area of concern for us all for a player who could be expendable despite the wraps from his under 18 years
