If we had pick 4/5 and Taranto nominates us, why would we need to offer more than that pick? He's uncontracted yeah? GWS wouldn't turn that down if it's our final offer.

I would offer our future 1st as well and keep our 1st this year, stuff them.
We shouldn't even ask the question of him. Don't trade away draft capital unnecessarily.
we should test that out.
I thought Cerra would be more than a first.
If GWS accept a first for Taranto because a) they can't afford to keep him and b) it's the best they're gonna get, happy days.

On Taranto and co. it's less about depth and more about gaps in our midfield.
1-2 of Brayshaw, Taranto, dunkley
1-2 of Ward, Blakely

Add 3 mids because we are seriously shallow there.
Half hoping we're in the mix for McStay too.
Taranto is worth a lot more than Cerra.

Ward and O'Halloran will cost us maybe a F3 total, or a swap of our 2nd for their compensation pick. Let's not be stupid again.

He's worth what we have I think, 4 is enough, GWS will not let him walk when 4 is on the table.

I'm happy to go draft 1st anyway and maybe try for a Dev Robertson type.

Interesting that it's coming from Watson.
I don't know how I feel about this one

as posters mentioned above, do you really want to bring this sort of presence into the club.
but, he can play. and he fills the void we lack. Rotating Stringer and JDG, you get the permanent presence of what made our midfield competitive last year. And he hits the scoreboard. more than our mids do.

If we had a stronger culture of leadership (a la Hird, Selwood type captain), you'd consider it.
it's a lot of money for someone who MIGHT help the clubs results turn a corner, but also might just be a terrible influence/distraction on the group.

That said, 2x FA's in Brayshaw & JDG and preserve our picks....

As you said, interesting that Watson is touting this.

I'm not prepared to trade for him, period. He'll cost a first and a second, I guarantee it.

IF in two years time he's a free agent and we still haven't fixed our issues, then we maybe have a look.

Yes he can play but do we really want a goose like him. We have to instill a no dickhead policy.
I think we have that, and it's not really doing anything for us.

Oliver was a dickhead. Took Choco to turn his head, but it worked.
I doubt we have the culture to afford a De Goey, but much was said of Stringer before we got him. And he's matured a lot.
And can't say much for Collingwood's culture really. can we :p

Neither Oliver nor Stringer were as bad as DeGoey.

I agree. The knocks on him are valid - I don't have the rap sheet in front of me but undoubtedly has done many stupid things.

For most people though, there comes a time when they start to wisen up and mature. Stringer yes was never as bad but he did go through a similar path and improve himself as a person. Will that ever happen for De Goey? Not sure but I'd like to think it will.

Purely speculation but if we bring in as you said, Brayshaw and DG, bring in Hewett at pick 4, Davey x2, maybe a depth mid like O'Halloran - that would actually be pretty massive for the club.

I wouldn't be cheering if we got him, but I don't think I'd melt about it either.

De No Goey for me. Stringer cheated on his wife, which is morally poor at the very least, but De Goey has done much worse.

Brayshaw I can cop because we can front load his contract. If we have an off season of:

Brayshaw 5x650k (most of which is in years 1-3), Ward 2x400k and O'Halloran we've absolutely nailed it from a trading perspective. Then we draft another midfielder hopefully, get Davery squared, and have essentially covered a huge hole in our list.

Also stories about him giving Boyd, let's say, a hard time. Which is why I think we got him in a fire sale. But no doubt DG has done way worse.

We do all that, then we can start our assault for Ben King in 2023 ;)

Why would we need to when Wright, Jones and Baldwin combine for 100 goals this year?

we'd push forward 2 years in the rebuild without losing draft capital
tbh, I reckon we'd get there with a Brayshaw + O'Halloran and also giving up a 1st (or 1st and 2nd) for Taranto.
2nd this year is likely lost on Davey anyway.
And Taranto is what we need and ready to go.

We still have the KPD issues to deal with. But we surely unearth a couple out of Reid, Cox, Brand, Eyre, McBride.....surely.

By my calculations (which could be wrong)

To achieve that they need to avg 5.2 goals a game between them from here on at AFL level
you could almost back Wright on his day to do this solo if our midfield was delivering.
But it's not. So we're not scoring and we're leaking them the other way.

not the best team for him to shine in though.
He'd be a cheap wager a la Wright (or Brodie) to see what he can do. Or he plays VFL. Also not bad.
Im not giving away more than an early 4th rounder for him right now. Ive been watching him closely.... its not pretty. Hes also playing the wing

I say play the kids back end of the year ie: Perkins and Hobbs onball more

Come bottom 4

Pick 4, 22, Davey

Look at free agency aswell (Short/Brayshaw/Degoey) im not saying yes/no to any right now

I would suggest you valuation is probably off.

Considering he is 21, a first round pick and has played every game to start this year.
If he plays 20 odd game this season playing a pretty sacrificial role off the wing then he will be worth far more than a fourth.

Has already been dropped this year

hes not playing a sacrificial role either btw. You watched there 5 games this year?

Not all wingers are sacrificial now because Angus Brayshaw magically played some role in 2021 that has been played for the past decade

I’d be looking for an attacking half back who can kick over another midfielder. We’ll likely take a mid with our top 6-8 pick. Then trying to find a hard working defensive mid on the cheap, like Adelaide found with Ben keays.
