As another thought, I wonder what Langford would get as a free agent. Don't flame me, as I haven't put a lot of thought into it. We seem to have that flanker wing position well covered.

I'd rather keep Langford and play him as a forward. Send Waterman to the VFL as back-up.

O'Halloran is really bad atm

He is playing out of position. He is an inside mid who is playing a defensive role on a wing. Then gets dropped and plays all game as an inside mid in the 2nds.

Langford should only ever be used as a forward IMO it’s where he plays his best footy and where the game looks to come most natural to him.

Sure. If you ignore the time he finished top 5 in the BnF playing mostly as a winger.

We need to get really creative with our drafting and trading. No player should be off limits for a trade. Our list is not even close to having a winning season let alone winning a final. It shouldn’t matter who is under contract or not. Even if we have to pay a large amount of Shiel’s contract, he has to go. He isn’t a match winner and that’s the salary range he is in. The only thing we don’t trade are draft picks. Our first pick will be in the range of 1-3 and we should get a good player here. From now on the club has to be brutal and stop being the nice fellows that we are.

Agree with brutal and creative, but Shiel's wage isn't an issue when we are significantly under the cap

McStay would be an excellent get - He can work up the ground and make space for Wright and when he is deep forward then you have to pay him respect as he can clunk a mark - I'll also add he's a very decent defender.

That's at least 2 very different players.

Weightman, naah. Not interested in smalls that play tall. Waterman kicks 2 a game doing that.

Moore, yes please. Giant engine and runing power. Pure ground level dynamo.

Papley, he's about the only guy who crosses over between the style of Weightman and Moore. A star of the competition. He's no type but yes you could not sign a Papley quickly enough.

In any event the point is that Davey, Davey and Tex are who we're going to be looking to to be that Moore style of player at least initially. I'm not sure we can add much more to the list for the position. We also have Snelling and Tippa.

The idea of letting Langford leave for a sorta high pick is sexier than the reality.

Because in reality is we gravely miss his field kicking and marking power through the wings and midfield when he is gone. Very valuable forward of centre as well when he rest forward.

Watching how much Cox has struggled on the wing, someone who can actually play that role well would actually be a sizeable loss to our team set up.

He's never played a full AFL season is the major concern we've got with him.

When he's playing, he's a valuable player for us in a role we very much need filled.

We miss Langford and Snelling so much. The running power they provide is immense. Two of our best 2km runners and often cover the most ground for us on game day.

I think he's only had the one bad injury though.
Concussion one or two times, dropped a fair bit.

He's had a few hamstring problems over the last 2 years now, I think 3 separate incidents?

He got two hamstring injuries last year.

The second one was unlucky, the game in which he returned he literally got a knee right to the point the tear had been previously. Otherwise he hasnt had many soft tissue issues before that and didn't play early on because of Worsfolds stupid hierarchy system despite carving up the VFL at times.

I’d hate for langford to leave, he’s incredibly important on and also off the field. In reality we wouldn’t get more than a 2nd either, but if he chooses to leave we can’t do anything as hell most likely be a UFA.

I’ve heard he’ll likely be unrestricted, not in the top 25% at the club.no way he’ll be band 1, no one will be offering him 750k+ and if he is to leave it’ll be likely to a club in the window. I’d say a 4-5 deal x 500 or so. That’ll likely be band 3

But yeah, would miss him a whole lot if he left. Give him 5 years at 500k. Takes him to 30 and we'll be very happy with that I reckon

We have a few HF/wing options, but he's our best (at the moment. Martin coming hard, but the thought of both in the side makes me giddy)
