Not that it would be much but would love to see us try and get creative with the supposed outgoing players at the club, pay some of there salary to try and get a better pick. Even if it is an out of contract player;

Brayden Ham (+30% of his salary) to Melbourne for pick 53

Aaron Francis (+25% of his salary) to Adelaide for future 3rd rounder

You can only pay part of their contract if they're traded whilst being under contract.

really? ..

Genuinely did not know that. I was always under the impression you could negotiate with receiving club how much with selling club obviously reaching a point before capping out

Can anyone post or shed light on the DeGoey to Ess article in the HS this morn.

AFL 2022: Jake Stringer is Essendon envoy to entice Jordan De Goey to The Hangar

Jordan De Goey and Jake Stringer roaming the forward line together is a salivating prospect for Essendon fans and might still happen if a behind-the-scenes recruitment drive comes off.

Jon Anderson, Jon Ralph, Jay Clark, Glenn McFarlane and Marc McGowan

The lack of a coach hasn’t deterred Essendon’s bold recruiting drive, one that includes the prized signature of Jordan De Goey.
While De Goey’s future has largely been identified as remaining at Collingwood or accepting a lucrative offer from St Kilda, the Bombers have been quietly chipping away in the background.

Their presentation to De Goey is said to have included a delegate of senior players, including Jake Stringer who plays a similar forward/midfield role, a pairing that would prove highly exciting to Bomber fans and highly difficult for rival coaches to combat.

"the Bombers are quietly chipping away" at the Jordan De Goey in the back ground apparently.

Another nothing article that has no meat or vegetables in it but a fair bit of gravy in a long article that has maybe 3 paragraphs on Essendon and one line only relatable to Essendon and De Goes.

Rather poorly written to be honest and one that lacks any sort of credibility
It’s the trade period, shit gets clicks

It’s the Catalina Wine Mixer at this point.
Ole!

Edit: Not gonna lie. I went to Urban Dictionary after I replied. Yowsers! It's like the fall of the Roman Republic.

It’s off Step Brothers… who probably could do a better job of running the show tbh 😂

McKay now JDG?

I seriously doubt both stories at this point. I think both stay at their respective club's.

It is the get better now mentality and not the build for the future. Personally I just prefer to use the top end picks and when a FA target comes along you start using that. He would fit us well no doubt about it but I just think the timing is out.
It’s time for a rebuild. He’s 26 next year and peaking right now. We should think long term, for once, and hit the draft hard until we are ready to capitalise on FA.
We complain about the lack of effort and leadership from senior players but want them to teach and lead our next generation? Our culture is down the drain. How can we rely on internal development with such a bad culture? How many draftees are we going to waste? We've had this same conversation for years.

Getting someone like Dunkley is NOT looking short term, especially for the price that he'd cost. I understand not trading for someone like Taranto given he'll cost two firsts, but if we trade pick 4 and 22 for 11 and Dunkley, then we're not selling our future. We're still getting a first round selection, Davey X2 and Munkara + a genuine big bodied and two way running inside mid that stands up under finals pressure. I genuinely cannot see how that's a bad thing.

Dunkley is an investment in the future by getting an on-field leader to teach the next generation over the next 6 years (which is usually when players establish habits). He's played in two grand finals and in many finals series. At the moment, we can't even genuinely pick a captain. That's how bad our leadership is.

And here we are linked to a player like De Goey who is exactly the type of player we shouldn't be chasing given our leadership issues.

Just my 2 cents. We probably did ask Dunkley the question and he probably said no because we’re a complete shit show. Not much more you can do about it.

I'm also glad we didn't get Stengle because of his off field stuff, guys playing in a prelim now. Also JDG is a culture killer, Pies seem to be going alright.

Just get more private school boys who are responsible with their money.
You're talking about two clubs with a strong off field culture and leadership programs that (for the most part) keep this stuff in check.

Also Stengle is getting his second chance. We'd be giving De Goey his 8th.

I like how not wanting one of the worst human beings in the AFL is apparently a bad thing

I was being a little silly but you're incredibly harsh on JDG.

He's well worth the risk, I don't even see it as a major risk if I'm honest.
