Probably not the right thing to say, but she plays like a fella with her skills.
The "fella" part is not the determining factor. Plenty of "fellas" don't play with her effectiveness and skill.

The critical parts are having a detailed connection to the game and how to execute accordingly. One of the most critical factors there is "experience". It could also be "confidence" for want of a better word.

Your could also just simply say "she plays at an elite level".

IMO Mim has been our best player this season. I've watched every game and feel confident about saying that.

I think McCarthy is a close second. Her tackling pressure and explosion out of the contest is match winning on its own.

O'DRISCOLL has had a terrific year too. Her rebound is excellent. Our whole backline system holds up and that's a credit to our coach. Webb understands football and can implement her plan.

Gabby Newton had a massive game yesterday. I didn't realise how many tackles. 20 tackles is huge. Her disposal in traffic is great too.

Fingers crossed for next week

I dont watch any other games apart from Freo so not sure what other teams are like when they play each other.

But the Freo girls as some mentioned earlier are still making a lot of mistakes and not always just when under pressure from oppostion players

But some things i noticed
1. They dont always attack the ball. they wait for it to bounce and even stop in their postion looking at the ball. Really need to get to where you think the ball is landing and either mark it or control it. not let it bounce and see it go in many different directiosn due to its shape.
2. They still struggling with the running and bouncing of the ball. mostly it seems due to the way they hold the ball and then throw it at the ground many times on the bottom of the ball rather than just before the tip of the ball so it comes straight back to you rather than other directions
3. They struggle to pick the ball of the ground many times.
4, Goal kicking accuarcy even from short distances and straitght in front.

The good thing is those are trainable to improve those skills and confidence

I not sure what the training schedule of the women is, how many times per week they train. when does preseason trianing start etc. Hard to committ to lot of training when they not fulltime footballers. But hopefully they getting minimum of 2 training sessions per week for minimum of 90minutes. Then do extra fitness stuff in their own time

Great to see Mim Strom leading the way showing how to mark, position and even her kickign has gone to another level.

She is definitely now our best on ground.

Need Haley Miller to get her full fitness back and kick straighter.

Sadly i think Antonio might be in her last year with us. She was great a few years back but struggling to keep up the pace for 4 Qtrs.

They have 22 hours of "Contact" per week per the CBA

So they're doing quite a bit more than that

It'll rise next year with the payrises

Good post. I’m hoping that Antonio is still getting over her knee. She won’t be the player she was but maybe another preseason might see her find, at least some of her pace again.

Good to have contact , but how long are they actually doing skills drills

I understnd that watchin videos and discussing tactics and getting to know each other is useful.

But as i dont live local i dont know how long they spend on the oval doing drills

Just been reading the Actual Document

The access to players cuases are interesting.

RULE 8 ACcess to Players During Program - AFLW Players
(b) Each AFLW Player and Club commits to the following in respect of the 2024 and 2025 AFLW Seasons:(i) no more than 22 hours per week during the AFLW Pre-Season;(ii) no more than 22 hours per week during the AFLW Season (including Matches and commencing on the Monday prior to the first round of the AFLW Premiership Season).
8.3 Rule
(c) AFLW Players are not obliged to attend a Club Session of greater than four (4) hours in duration unless approval has been granted by both AFL and AFLPA to hold a longer session except that an AFLW Player will not be required to attend such approved session where:
(i) that session is scheduled between the hours of 9am and 5pm on weekdays, unless the applicable AFLW playing group has together agreed with their Club to conduct Club Sessions during these hours;

8.6 AFLW SEASON Rule
(a) Club must not schedule more than three (3) separate organised Club Sessions or Club commitments per week of the AFLW Season (excluding Match commitments and Appearances).

It is good to have these rules for the protection of the woman. The original 22 Hours sounds like a lot of CONTACT. but the above clear up a little.

But still would like to know how much time is spent each week. on the oval. Kicking . handballing and marking. Kicking goals

Not time trials and fitness. Actuall skills

Not sure about the no injuries thing from yesterday; who was it that got tunnelled after taking a mark on the forward pocket in the last quarter and was then helped off? Landed very much on her head and looked like a sure concussion.

Mulholland

Terrific mark,. No ttunneling she jsut flew over the top of the essondon player who was hoping toget an wasy mark standing on the ground

Great effort. landed awkadly on her back and her head did bump the ground.

She seeemd a little groggy walking off with the assitants.

I dont beleive it was an attempt by essondon player to maliscoulsy tunnel , just happened to be going for same ball but stayed on ground and was moving into where mulholloand was flyingthrough the air.

Again Great effort

How good was Miller's interception and then one handed gather in the second, before drilling it through the majors?

Sometimes not doing something takes a certain kind of skill (or strength, maybe). 1 is in part a solution for 3. Lack of one-touch invites pressure in a game already defined by greater player density around the ball. Freo players seem well drilled in perceiving the pressure, protecting space around the ball, knocking on to a teammate's advantage, as well as choosing to apply body contact over gathering the ball, so as to buy the extra time to tap/dispose to advantage.

Re. 2: that's a competition wide issue. There are some experienced players who have no issue, but it's not uncommon to see a fast break out the back with no one inside 50 resulting in a failed running bounce.

Now, I'm not saying that Mim is dominating because I'm her buddy, but...

Last year not my buddy = good
My buddy this year = record setting season never seen before.

The facts kind of speak for themselves. 😁😁😝😝

My favorite play of hers this weekend was when she pushed the Essendon ruck out of the way, grabbed the ball, threw it on the boot and kicked a goal. She needs to teach Dogga to do that! haha.

Classic demonstration that development isn't lineal, it's buddyal.

She came back on late I saw. She was near where I was sitting.

The biggest issue IMO is still the ability to have control over the ball and down our end for 80-90% of the game but struggling to get the goals to put the team away. Second week in a row dominating everywhere but the scoreboard. And similarly the opp gets a break and goals on the run. Very frustrating. The kick into HF is usually quite good but it's the last kick to the forward that is just not working. Also, our backs are very good (I like Maddy) but they often follow their player through under the ball rather than follow the flight so it often goes over the back of the contest giving the opp opportunity for a goal. If we could improve those two things, the score line could improve dramatically cause everything else they are doing is very good. The pressure is outstanding for 4Q.
