Further to your post, it is very tiresome to see some posters continually stretch the truth to take a hit at the club.

The truth of the matter is that Stevens would have cost us Didak. That's who they asked for or no deal. Who gives a shite what happened after that catastrophe was prevented. I know whose career I would have preferred- hint he became a two time AA and premiership player with the club. If taking a stance helped Port 'win a flag' then keeping Didak helped us win one.

Cue the knuckleheads slagging the post off by declaring their right to bag the club.
Absolutely correct. Didak was their target and I recall the club declining on the basis that they saw Didak 'as a ten year player'. Their judgement in this case was spot on. Stevens gave Carlton very little.

My understanding is he lives between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. its not a long drive, many of oour players have lived down there and played for us.

Your understanding is wrong - Balmoral is 15-20 minutes from the CBD, 60-90 minutes from the Gold Coast - therefore, I suggest that your clueless and should piss off and peddle your bullshit elsewhere.

I'm not trolling. Trying to have a discussion about this but maybe your not capable of that.

I'll have a discussion with you.

'Sending the message'. I just don't buy it. I can't see how that works.

Some Pies supporters would be tempted to send Freeman to the draft if we only get a 3rd round pick. But it's not sending a message it's just a **** you to the player and the poaching club.

If Bris 'send a message' by putting Aish in the draft. What happens next?

What happens to the other Bris players asking to be traded this year? Surely if you don't send them to the draft the message sent via Aish is seriously diluted and weak.

What happens next season when a player asks for a trade? Are you going to keep sending players to the PSD? Of course Bris won't. It would totally destroy the already seriously struggling club.

If anything, Bris sending Aish to the draft this year will guarantee the next player who requests a trade will get exactly what they want. They will know Bris have made their principled stand previously and wont do it twice.

So what are you guys going to put up.
So how do you explain Dom Sheed being drafted to WCE using a pick that was ours after we swapped for their earlier one.
Trust & faith it's called.

Yeah agree that PSD outcome would be really poor result for us. In effect Lions get Ox for Aish. The Blues pick up a young gun for nothing and we get zilch for losing Oxley.

As long as the Lions aren't unrealistic with their trade requirements I still think this gets done. Lions fans seemed willing to take Hawks first (18) for him so if we offer a pick between 15-20 then it will be hard to justify to the AFL mediator why that is not acceptable for a 32 game 19yo coming off a poor year.
We simply refuse to trade Oxley to Brisbane if he wants to go back to QLD. So Brisbane need to wake up come to the table.
Oxley and two 2nd round picks for Aish if that is what it will take to get the deal done. Brisbane will be well compensated it's a win/win for both clubs.
Honestly I would be very pissed off if I was a Lions supporter and we let Aish go for nothing due to the clubs arrogant stance.

So you think we should just acccept dud deals like we did 2 years ago?

2 picks in the 20~25 range isn't a dud deal. Generally speaking that group of picks 15~25 are relatively even, and picks in the top 30 often work out to be very good players. All of that 'shallow draft' stuff relates to the fact that there isn't much /depth/ which means past pick 30ish there isn't much interest. The top end is the same as ever. We're looking at getting 1 pick in that 20~25 range for Freeman who was only taken 3 spots behind Aish. So essentially you're getting twice the payment for someone rated around the same level in the draft year because he's played 30 games in a bottom 2 side.

I'm sure if you offer pendlebury and your first round pick we will consider.

That would make Leigh Mathews a liar, so I don't think anyone would suggest that. He very clearly said on 3AW on Tuesday night that 'Aish will not be traded, period. its a matter of principal'. There was no qualification about re-visiting that decision if the deal was good enough. it was very clear cut - he won't be traded.

How ever will we cope without Oxley.. Haha

Yeah but Ox is uncontracted and could just walk to Lions at pick 2 in PSD and we get nothing back. If Aish is available in the PSD then Carlton probably takes him. I agree Id be pissed to get nothing too.

Just shows the difference between the two clubs. We are losing a pick 10 from the same draft. Who I'm sure even with his issues we'd like to retain but instead of acting petulant and refusing to come to the table we have said we will try and get the best deal for him that we can.

No they didn't.That is a crazy comment

Yes they did Aish had a massive flight risk over his head at the time of drafting, it was all over BF.

Brisbane thought they could sway him into sticking around, they gambled and got it wrong.

When you whine about the go home 5 then draft someone who doesn't want to go to your club in the hopes he will change his mind then sook it up when he says "I want out"...well I just don't even.

He's not a liar, just forgetting that the same principles you applied when playing and coaching don't necessarily translate into wise decisions in administration.

Oxley and a Second rounder is probably overs. Aish was a first rounder 2 years ago and hasn't lived up to it. He's a second round pick now. If Seedsman goes to Brisbane and we swap it's overs for Aish. He may turn out to be a gun. So might Freeman. The reality is in 2 years neither have justified their drafting position albeit for different reasons. We won't get a first rounder for Freeman.

That or they'll nominate their preferred club plus whoever is at the bottom of the ladder.

So the pertinent question I suppose is, what does all this posturing say to future players looking to get drafted? I mean, let's just say Schache didn't have a connection with the Lions, or better yet let's say Carlton take Schache. Weitering would be absolutely weeing himself. I think there would be a lot of 18 year old kids looking at the Lions and thinking, "shit, I don't want to play there, and Matthews is pushing the AFL for four year deals and saying if I want to leave it'll be via the drafts again. I have no career options if I get drafted to Brisbane, and the better I play the harder they'll try to keep me.".

It would be daunting and as a kid, it really does reinforce that tanking your draft interviews is an option. Personally, I've never and will never tank a job interview, but in this scenario if you don't know where you're going to end up, why would you want to interview well for the job that lands you somewhere you don't want to be?

This Oxley in the PSD is pretty tragic stuff. So Lions lose Aish to Carlton for nothing but possibly get Oxley. So Aish for Oxley...which could have been done in trade week with another 2nd round thrown in. And of course Aish will 'have learnt his lesson'.

And other players will now be reluctant to go to Brisbane, the East Germany of the AFL, in future. But lessons will have been learnt, and lines drawn in the sand. And other players will leave but not make clear a favoured club, just anywhere but Brisbane.
