I feel pretty philosophical about this one. I hope it gets done, and I think it probably will, but worst comes to worst we walk away from the trade period with Treloar. Pretty awesome worst-case scenario if you ask me.

I feel the same but just think we will get Aish as well. We are on a roll and I think the good times will keep coming.

When a player nominates your Club you get the deal done it's as simple as that.

Two second round picks is more than fair.

He will be in a Pies jumper in 2016.

True, but flags are damned hard to win, if you're going to have a swing you should swing for the fences, as they say.

Why do we have to swap our 2nd for a 2016 2nd? Give Saints 2nd 2016 plus our pick 26 2015, Aish to Pies, do Bastinac trade, all signed and done by 9.30am and then Lions have 4.5 hours to do their own swapping of picks in '15 or '16 or whatever the hell they feel like doing. Seems like the value is there in the trade already and so will get done, Lions just making us do the legwork on their pick swapping for them for some reason (must know that we are better at it than they are ;) ).

Yes, you make a good point. But they may be wanting us to do the leg work, which is the problem. They've got something we want, so we have to come up with an acceptable trade.

We no longer have our 2 first rounders the next two years. I feel like we'd be better off using the picks to assist areas of need. Aish is not a need, he's a luxury. Midfield in general is not a need right now, unless we can pickup someone with elite speed and footskills. I feel like we are going after the cherry to put on top of the cake rather than looking at sorting the cake out which is far from finished at this point.
Midfielder can easy play half forward or Half Back IMO by getting these guys we can spread talent throughout the ground when not in Midfield

Starting Midfield - Pendles, Treloar, Crisp
2nd Midfield - Swan, Sidey, Adams
3rd - Aish, Greenwood, Degoey
Others - Blair, Elliot
Meaning guys like Swan, Sidebottom, DeGoey, Treloar, Pendles can play in the forward line when not needed in the midfield. All those guys can kick goals and are extremely dangerous.

Pendles, Crisp, Aish, treloar ect can play off halfback when not needed in the midfield finally adding some much need polish to the backline.

Short answer: that could well end up happening due to Pickering.
Long answer: because the Lions can sort Bastinac themselves and only want picks for 2016 from here on to help with gaining points for an academy prospect next year.

So we currently have 26 and 28 in this gears draft. Are we going to be using both on Aish? I want a 2nd rounder in this draft :/
No. One will be directly traded to Brisbane along with the Saints' future 2nd, or traded for a future pick and then on-traded to Brisbane along with the Saints' future 2nd.

How good is pickering not dealing bastinac until aish sorted out!!
If that's true he's doing the right thing.
One has a contract and the other doesn't; he's looking after the un-contracted one first.

So going in to 2016 it will be 6 years since we won a flag. Is that a long time?

What's been a long time is one of your posts being consistent with the previous one.

We have something they want as well- draft picks.

Yep, no problems with that.

To be honest, at the start of all this, I wasn't convinced that pursuing Aish (on top of Treloar) was that wise an expenditure of our (finite) draft resources. Opportunity costs, you know? I wondered if we were overspending in one area of the field while other shortcomings went unaddressed. Particularly when, in the glimpses I've seen of Aish, he's struck me as a bit underwhelming. But as this whole process has gone on, a bunch of people whose judgement I rate have praised Aish lavishly. So I've got on board with it.

All I'm saying is if, despite our best efforts, it doesn't happen, I ain't gonna be rocking back and forth in the corner, dabbing the corners of my eyes and reading Sylvia Plath in a quavery voice.

If we don't get Aish, well, maybe we get two good young players with all those 2nd-rounders we stockpiled?

Just like that mother****ing Tattslotto ticket I bought didn't do me any favours, but you know maybe that saucy blonde minx I see scattering chairs on the pavement outside the local bar... I won't complete that thought. But you see where I'm going...

Many different paths to the Promised Land, my friend.

Pick 17 - North.
Pick 28 - North.

Bastinac - Brisbane.
Aish - Collingwood.

Would then flick 26 to North, they would flick 34 back. Would downgrade pick to sweeten deal.

Brisbane gain - Bastanic
North gain - Pick 17, 26 & 28.
Pies gain - Aish & 34.
Wait. So you're saying Brisane will basically give pick 17 and Aish for Bastinac?

You're kidding right?

Mainstream media have NFI.

Herald Sun reporting that Brisbane told trade for Bastinac will not occur until Aish move is finalised.
So is this North or Pickering holding them to ransom?

If true that's means they might have to take our 2 second round picks this year otherwise they don't have the points they were expecting from the North trade.

Everyones favorite scout from the EBnW board is still "very confident" I notice. Should keep some people calm until about 12:15PM tomorrow.
The only source that counts in my opinion!

And further to this there trying to hold us over a barrel by saying that they only want 2 future 2nd rounders in hope that we can't offer this and then in turn Aish changes his mind with nth and they do a deal directly with nth.

I'd err on the side of doing the leg work.

From my perspective our club currently has what you'd deem a terse relationship, at best, with 3 of the 4 northern clubs (at least it seems so from the outside). Yes we want our club to do well out of the deal and there supporters are about as useful as a hat full of arseholes, but I don't think it's healthy to be in the position we currently seem to be.

At the end of the day I'm happy to give Brisbane the win on this one to potentially mend a few bridges. You sometimes have to lose a few battles to win a war (the overall betterment of our club) and I'm happy for this to be one of those battles.
