AEW Title Match at All Out is meant to be:

Both PWInsider & Alvarez are reporting it'll still be Moxley vs. Punk for the Title at All Out. I could make sense of it last night, if Punk's still injured and didn't want to risk disappointing his hometown fans, but if Tony's booked a title loss, to tell a story that you could already tell without it, only for the end result to be the same - it is straight out of the Russo playbook, a swerve for the sake of a swerve.

Be disappointed if the Punk stuff is a 100% work.

Likely MJF returns in the Casino ladder match, but where does he go from there? Feud with Mox? Who's the face/heel. Do they continue the pipe bomb promo storyline with Tony? Or was that expected to be forgotten or moved on quickly?

People are mentioning a Punk heel turn, but Mox is flipping off the crowd and then having a go at the fans afterwards (FWIW not a fan of Mox work recently - but thought it was a great promo)

I respect people love it, but the booking really is head scratching sometimes. Luchasaurus jumping back and forth between heel and face, Billy Gunn siding with his sons and beating down the Acclaimed, only for his sons to beat him down and the Acclaimed to come and help him.

Then the anticipated Era vs Elite stroylines kinda got brushed over quickly only a few weeks before Kenny comes back (albeit on a reduced workload)

When WWE makes the same vanilla storylines, AEW comes up with some really interesting stuff, only to not follow through or just make things WAY more convoluted than it needs to be.

Wish they would just tighten things up.

With a big roster and limited TV time for a lot of talent, continuity is more important than anything.

Mox latest interview said fans should watch AEW and not the Monday and Friday Night crap 😂

Be nice of them to zip it regarding WWE for once and focusing on cleaning up their shows and roster.

Can someone explain to me the booking of FTR and Wardlow?

Around DoN FTR were the hottest tag team and Wardlow was the hottest up and coming star and now on AEW's biggest PPV of the year they are put in a meaningless 6 man tag match and their momentum is dwindling.

I'm surprised the Bucks haven't copped more heat for throwing away a big money match with FTR for all the belts just because they didn't want to do what's right for business and put them over in the rubber match.

You make a lot of points, which I tend to agree with. Tony really needs to hire some people to help him with storyline’s. Imo, he needs to stay away from the Russo’s, Cornette types and maybe look at the Freddie Prince Jnr and Brian Geriwortz(?) types to tighten up the storyline’s a bit more.

If Tony continues trying to do everything himself, he will burn himself out pretty quick, he needs to learn to delegate some of his responsibilities.

Champion spruiking his own company, that's outrageous!
Spruik as much as you like but just drop mentioning WWE they keep doing it and have done so for ages.

Focus on fixing the mess they have right now with roster size/ appearances get some consistency and people might tune in more. Maybe Mox and his limited match types and skill are a reason why said people don't tune in?

Why does it matter? He has history there, acting like it doesn't exist is stupid.

General consensus is Dynamite has been great lately, if this is what a mess is that's fine.

5 years from now when Conrad Thompson is doing his podcast with Tony Khan, they will be comparing Moxley/Punk to the Georgia Dome Hogan/Goldberg title match.

It’s crazy to me that we’ve spent 2 decades lamenting the loss of long term story telling… and now AEW are doing it people aren’t prepared to give it a chance. That’s despite them successfully telling a 3-year long story with Hangman and the Elite.

IF booking your biggest possible Championship match to a 3 minute squash 10 days before your biggest PPV of the year is “long term booking”, then I’ll stand by my comment that this is the AEW equivalent of Hogan/Goldberg @ the Georgia Dome. An attempt to spike the TV rating at the expense of the PPV.

It is 8-9 days until All Out and there’s no main event for that show. All Out is supposed to be it’s biggest weekend of the year.

I thought it was interesting cos it was different. They put over hard that he came back too early, he “hurt” himself doing a literal heel turn. You were thinking before the match even started how weird it was - from a work & a shoot perspective - that he hadn’t had a warm up match first. Re-watching it, the announcers sold the story perfectly.

They’re going to run it back on the ppv having given away nothing, and I think Punk is going to attempt a heel turn that he’s been dropping hints about for a year in Chicago.

Everything has been building to this. Whether or not you think he’s a narcissist, I think he believes he can pull off a heel turn (possibly in Chicago) and demonstrate that he’s the star he always thought he was.

And if heel Punk on top doesn’t increase ratings, he’ll give it away in a year. (I wonder if that’s where todays Jericho reports have come from - the likelihood that Punk as a heel sinks him as a top guy.)

I think this is gold if there’s a heel turn coming.

Thank-you for saving me having to wait the 5 years to hear the excuses on the future podcast.

Three things are true right now:

  • -AEW just threw their PPV main event into the middle of a Dynamite episode to (unsuccessfully) pop a rating and give the audience a VERY disappointing version of Punk/Moxley.
  • Dynamite’s ratings are down on 12 months ago. Despite the added contracts of Punk, Danielson, Cole, Joe, Claudio, Regal, etc. — less people are watching than the same week a year ago
  • It is 8-9 days until All Out and there is no announced main event. It’s Wrestling 101 to have an announced main event to promote a show, it’s not “interesting” to be different, it leads to suggestions that AEW is a rabble backstage

I don’t normally care much for star ratings, but seeing Aussie Open being excited about 5 stars on their socials is pretty damn cool.

A reminder to everyone to check out your local Australian wrestling. As I said yesterday, I saw Aussie Open literally a year ago (15 months).

In a fun coincidence I get back to DMDU at the Arrow today, the week they’ve main evented a major tv show as unsigned talent and copped 5 stars.
