Or it's like 1984, where the Ministry for Peace is responsible for war, and the Ministry for Information is responsible for false propaganda.
Doublespeak at it's finest.

Just finished reading the book - It's the Ministry of Truth that is responsible for altering information to suit the party (big brother).

So many parallels between this book and the crers/gill/afl.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I think Cornsey’s article (perhaps deliberately considering who one of his employees is) misses the mark.
The issue should not be the women feeling over empowered by the Meetoo movement that she has made a frivolous claim. She didn’t go to the police and seek charges be made, she has gone to the club and in KT’s words not to get Sam in trouble but just to get him to pull his head in.

The media misreporting is where the issue was overplayed much to Sam’s and the women involved detriment.

Agreed. Her approach to the club and suggestion he get reprimanded was entirely appropriate

Agree. And furthermore, the old ‘he couldn’t have done it because I had dinner with him and he seemed nice’ or ‘bloody whingeing girls would’ve been groped harder in Europe’ is classic old white guy boy’s club mentality.

I heard the racial abuse against Irra but only saw the group of people not the individual. Tossed up getting security and calling the club but chose neither.
neither would have done anything if you had of raised it.

don't you worry though - 10000 crers fans will have their cameras ready at the next showdown.

Get on to the faulse flags the yanks have been running world wide, the media has become the most unreliable sorce of information known to man .

My information is that when the story initially presented itself at C7 the question of whether to reveal SPP's name was discussed within an influential group.
The decision to reveal his name was not unanimous and was debated hotly.
A final decision was made by someone - obviously a senior figure at the station - to over-ride discussion and publish.
Clearly this Elspeth woman approached her task with disgusting vigour but others need to be held to account at the station.

That would be fine if that is where it stopped but it didn't. The woman then felt compelled to appear on SEVEN news and give an exclusive blow by blow description of the whole affair. Those are not the actions of someone who would be appeased by a reprimand.

Once the decision to run the story was made Sam's name was always going to get a gig. What would be the point of an exclusive 'unnamed player' story? An unnamed woman appearing on TV with unsupported claims that she was sexually abused by an 'unnamed player' wasn't going to happen. The media outlets bitch and moan when the courts impose suppression orders so they are not going to impose one on themselves.

The problem is hush money that avoids criminal charges.

No it doesn’t. If there has been a crime, hush money doesn’t protect against criminal charges. Hush money protects against things such as civil lawsuits, embarrassing information being made public, trade secrets being leaked.

The GM of seven? and Elspeth showed way too much enthusiasm as she has in the past with stories that have the potential to smear our club.

Do we know how the story "presented itself" at Channel 7?

Naivety. She's young and dumb and didn't know how far the media/club/AFL would take this.

Hence why the club wont say exactly what happened on video to save her from embarrassment most likely.

She may have been in two minds about agreeing to go on TV, but ch7 could have told her anything to get her to accept. We also don't know how much editing they did of the girl's interview. It most likely isn't a true reflection of what was said, which may be one of the reasons she came to regret talking to them. We've seen it all before with player interviews where they pick out the bits to fit their agenda.

Um.

Naivety is not a reason for going to the media. Greed, revenge and/or narcissism are reasons. She had already gone to the club and was reportedly happy with their response. So why go to the media?

Naivety is a reason for not expecting the consequences.

stupidity is another reason to go to them.
