If he would be well deserving of winning this race why has he failed to do so since he was racing against his own age group?

Why does he keep getting beat?

Because he is no So You Think who is going to dominate every race, but he has shown time and time again that his best is good enough to match it with the best. You dont need to win to show your ability, he had little luck in running during the Spring and sometimes he just gets beat by a better horse on the day because he is just around that top mark, not better than them

Yes but in between that he has had 4 WINS - something Caterion has failed to manage even once against older horses.

I can't see how having failed to get past the post first at his last 9 attempts why there is anything to suggest he is capable of doing it this time.

He has become a non winner and that is the only knock, & he has been racing against the best & has failed by the smallest of margins, there is absolutely nothing about his current form that suggests he can't win this.

Unlike yourself I don't form emotional opinions when it comes to horses, I take each race of face value, I don't care if a horse has not won an open age G1 yet, if I think he/she can win a given race I will back them.

If he doesn't win then so be it, doesn't mean he wasn't a good bet and I'm certainly not going to be shattered if Beaten Up for example wins the race.

If and when Criterion happens to win on Saturday you will be on here giving him no credit whatsoever, that I can be sure of because in your opinion he is not deserving.

Exactly, he is not a legend of the turf but right now he is as going as well as any of the local horses, just because he has not won for a while doesn't mean he will not win again.

Fawkner, Adelaide & Designs on Rome all Group 1 horses, he comes out of a race that produced the trifecta in the Doncaster, he has never even been one of mine but I think he has had the perfect preparation and his form around him is G1 quality.

Exactly - and I think he'll be beat by better horses on the day for the 10th conescutive time.

0 for 9 as an older horse would be a fair knock I would have thought

Of course I will be - if a horse that has been beaten time and time again as an older horse wins the Championswaps premier race it would have to throw up big question marks.

Just like Dubai's carnival has rightly been slammed for Prince Bishop (similar profile to Caterion I would have though) winning the Dubai World Cup.

Criterion is third in the market for a reason. He clearly can win. He is a bit of a non winner, but he's a horse who when peaks, runs exceptionally well. Almost all of his runs this prep have been quality. He ran Real Impact to a nose, who you rate as a horse, and further backed it up in the Doncaster, but for some reason, you don't rate Criterion. Which you're entitled to, but I'm not sure it would be a massive shock if he does win. He's ran 2 cracking races over unsuitable distances. Another ripper over in HK, had huge market support in the CP, won the Derby and the Rosehill Guineas, ran extremely well in the australian guineas, and his run in the Vic Derby was also full of merit. He's ran in 14 group 1's for 2 wins and 6 placings, and particularly over the 2000m he's been genuinely good. I think he's just a very underrated horse.

I do understand what you mean from a passionate supporter of the sport though. It would seem fitting if one of the big 3 won. Adelaide, To the world, or contributer, maybe even Tosen Stardom, but I think that under sells our own country's horses and the fact that the sport would become a little boring if those who should win on paper and history always won.

It gets slammed by individuals who have nothing better to do than complain when something doesn't go they way they think it should, get out of bed and suck on lemons type of people.

That's like saying it was a blight on the AFL because St Kilda thrashed Fremantle last year, how dare they do that, they had only won 1 of their past 15 games leading into or some rubbish like that.

The horses that are competing in G1s are all elite horses in their own right, some better than others, some win more than others but just because a horse who has not won for a while wins a big G1 doesn't mean he/she is any less deserving and their is certainly no reason for anyone to be complaining or getting upset about it.

How anyone can justify that a horse wining a G1 race is not deserving of it is beyond me to be honest.

Criterions last two runs put him just under Tosen stardom and TTW's first up races for mine. They would need to go backwards for him to win. That's ignoring Contributer being above those two and if Adelaide runs anywhere near his best he beats them all. Criterion dogged it in the Mackinnon and good luck to anyone putting their hard earned on him in a pressure race. Not sure I will be having a bet just can't work out an accurate price for TTW atm, but TS looks a great price if leading is the place to be again.

If Criterion wins its a bad look you are suggesting? As a result he should be double his current odds?

Won't mean anything to the championships if he wins and who cares who wins what races to be honest?

Surely the only reason anyone ever watches racing is to have a bet, I enjoy watching good horses but if you couldn't bet on these races no one would be watching, I couldn't care less who wins what race as long as I end up turning a profit.
Disagree, Love everything about Horse Racing and would watch without any betting interest, but i know i am in the minority

Some horses do get better as they get older too. Criterion has changed stables so a different training regime may have made it reach what it is capable of. Super Impose took ages to become a group 1 horse. Then he won the best race in Australian History (by default but still won)

Anyone know if a Paypal withdrawal is supposed to be instant, or has ever been instant? I haven't used Paypal in years, but I made a deposit and then withdrawal to my paypal account yesterday, they've confirmed that they've processed it, but I'm still waiting for it to hit my account. Was it ever instant, or has there always been a 24-48 hour delay?

I cannot recall it ever being instant. Don't stress.

He was clearly the 2nd best run in the race and you're talking rot if you disagree.
Couldn't agree less mate, but we're obviously valuing/rating different factors here so it's not surprising.

I've only been a fan since Hayes has had him btw. Hard to forgive him for turning it up in the Ryder, but unlike my esteemed colleague ILP I won't be surprised or disappointed at all if he wins on Sat. Gut feel says he finds one better again, but he's still top class.

His run was more or less identical to Adelaide's, he started his run a length behind him and finished a length behind him, all this while never Travelling.

Who was a better run than that?
