His run was more or less identical to Adelaide's, he started his run a length behind him and finished a length behind him, all this while never Travelling.

Who was a better run than that?
Thought Side Glance wasn't entitled to finish where he did, and Fawkner next best after nearly selling out early.

Thought Criterion had his chance in a race where some others didn't. He was good (who wasn't?) but the winner still came from behind him.

When was the last time you watched the race?

Adelaide was in front of Criterion at the 100M before the heat went into the race, so Criterion started his run from behind Adelaide, from there the margin didn't really change and they followed exactly the same path.

Adelaide's run was superior as he didn't have a cart, of course every horse had his chance but Criterion's run was only bettered by Adelaide in my opinion, they both made long wide runs from well back, Side Glance and Fawkner had much easier runs in transit and definitely had their chance, for mine Criterion was every bit as good as any other run in the race and probably better.

He is going better now than he ever has in any case and has now shown the ability to take a position more forward in the run which has made him a better winning proposition.

It gets slammed by individuals who have nothing better to do than complain when something doesn't go they way they think it should, get out of bed and suck on lemons type of people.

That's like saying it was a blight on the AFL because St Kilda thrashed Fremantle last year, how dare they do that, they had only won 1 of their past 15 games leading into or some rubbish like that.

The horses that are competing in G1s are all elite horses in their own right, some better than others, some win more than others but just because a horse who has not won for a while wins a big G1 doesn't mean he/she is any less deserving and their is certainly no reason for anyone to be complaining or getting upset about it.

How anyone can justify that a horse wining a G1 race is not deserving of it is beyond me to be honest.

You do realise what the actual reason for the existence of throughbred racing is don't you?

So he had an identical run but finished 6 places worse?

I'd say the 5 ahead of him ran better races and the form was franked when he dogged it in the Mackinnon next time out.

How come he can't win then?

.

Have you? Adelaide settles 3-4 lengths behind Crietrion in the first half of the race - takes off well before him and beats him easily - its a compelte joke to say the runs are even comparable.

Happy Trails held him over the last 200m and then flogged him at Flemington.

They went near Might and Power's track record, I don't think the heat was ever out of the race.

As a result, I feel anything that ran on was entitled to and those on speed or sitting just off it should be promoted from a ratings point of view. Leaders ran 9th, 10th and 13th.

Assume the drift on Contributer this week was becasue he wasn't going that well or had a problem at home (obviously I thought he was overs and should have been firming if anything!).

Really tough race to choose from all 3 internationals now. Can't have Adelaide on the prep and may even lean to Tosen Stardom over TTW over the 2000m.

Nowhere near as confident as I was about Contributer though.

If Criterions cox plate was as good as we're talking he would be our best classic distance WFA star. Instead he's now a horse that's won 2 races since his two year old prep on heavily rain affected ground. There's no comparison between career peaks of Adelaide and Criterion. None.

Agree with this and what ride wrote - he has scrubbed up miles out, took an age to wind up and ran past a few tired horses at the death - W O W.

Sydney tomorrow, hopefully finish building my deck in the morning and can sit back with a few beers to watch the whole card..

R1: Muzyka - raffle of a race.
R2: Thinking of You
R3: Oxford Poet
R4: Sempre Lebera - has shortened nicely since opening and hopefully continues to. Best return of the day unless Akzar can get up in the Cup.
R5: Mossfun
R6: Ballet Suite
R7: Diamond Drille - few questions around the faves and outside of her last run she's had a pretty solid prep and won this last year. Wouldn't mind seeing Catkins win a Gr1, but she struggles at Randwick.
R8: Akzar - probably just pissing my cash away here, but have a feeling the winner will be at longer odds for some reason.
R9: Adelaide - if he produces close to his best, he's better than the rest. I was trackside Cox Plate day and got burnt with him throwing me out of a lot of multiples, so don't want to be making a similar mistake if he reproduces any of that form again.
R10: Avoid Lighting - good advice in life

As much as I've been impressed with Criterion's last three runs, I can't see him toppling TTW.

The AC quinella was a fluke, the Hayes stable is going like a busted arseh*le, 6 winners in their last 100 starts and tracking at -43% POT in 2015. I can't have a trainer with stats like that in the strongest G1 of the year.
