Are Carlton now acknowledging they erred in not picking up Daniel Rich ?

Pears kept him to 2.
Kept Fev to 2, Brown to 0, Roughhead to 2, Pavlich to 2, held Taylor Walker basically kickless for 3 quarters in a high scoring game, all in his first full year.

Pears has had a far superior year to Bower playing in key posts, not as a third man up. He's 2 years younger.

Good on him. But i fail to see how this shows Bower is not a good defender. Bower got toweled only once...Reiwoldt would have kicked 5 on any player with our midfield being so front running for the first half in that match.

Correct me if i am wrong, but i think Reiwoldt kicked 3 in the first quarter? After our players decided to pull their finger out Bower beat him in numerous 50/50 contests.

False. Kicked 3 in the third and dominated. Carlton fans got excited because he ran off Reiwoldt a few times and delivered up forward, but in one on one contests that night he was convincingly beaten. Not saying he is bad though.

I actually rate Bower but you are being kind on this occasion. Riewoldt killed him. Only 50/50 contestes that he beat him in was when he had a 3rd and sometimes 4th team mate assisting him. Lyon saw the alarm bells ringing and promptly decided to get Bower some more assistance. Roo killed him in any one on one contests.

The OP is correct. Carlton made a massive blunder in taking Yarran, and now they are trying to rectify things by trading for an inside mid.

No problem with doing this, you learn from your mistakes, however this mistake has cost them two first round draft picks for a guy who is slow and hasn't played good footy in two years, and a useless half forward who will be playing VFL reserves next year.

Yarran is better than VFL reserves. He played senior WAFL for at least a year and did very well against big boys. He probably shouldn't have been taken at pick 6, but we was a top 10 pick or thereabouts.

Yarran will be a gun.

Stupid thread.

The only similarity between Rich and Mclean is the fact they're one paced midfielders.

Daniel Rich is more like Marc Murphy than Brock Mclean.

I wouldn't swap Yarran for Beams or Sidebottom if you included Dale Thomas as the steak knives.

Did you watch him play in the VFL grand final. He was terrible. Shocking skills. Dud.

As for Beams or Sidebottom. You keep thinking that if it makes you feel better.

Some of this crap is unbelievable!

People judging a kid after one year...
People judging a kid on one VFL game...
People comparing players of unlike proportions, development and playing style...

I'm lost for words at the stupidity and short sightedness of BF posters sometimes. It's not even worth my time to quote and attempt to rebut some posters, as their initial post already writes them off as a lost cause in terms of reasoned & logical footy banter....

In the words of Dave Hughes; GET REAL!

Ignore Ron. It's one of the biggest troll on this site and just about everything it posts is tripe.

This is a kid who kicked 5.3 last week in a preliminary final - including 3.3 in the second quarter plus setting up another 3. He tore the game apart as an 18 year old. Unfortunately couldn't back it up the next week but he wasn't alone.

He needs time but there's no doubting his talent. Needs a big preseason and some confidence but I'm not at all ruing selecting him. He addresses one of our biggest weaknesses which is a lack of options up forward.

Interesting to note the West Australian locals, who have actually seen Yarran play more than once or twice, acknowledging the talent he possesses. Quite a contrast to the alleged 'all knowing' Victorian based posters who are basing their assessments on short glimpses of the kid.

So whose opinion should we trust? Emma Quayle, who has a good track record in assessing junior talent, West Australians, who have seen quite a bit of Yarran playing in the WAFL, or the trolls, including the OP, who like nothing more than pushing the 'envelope' on the Main Board, knowing the worst that may happen is their post will be deleted.

I know whose opinions have more credo & it isn't the latter group I have referred to.

I hope the people writing off Yarran are trolling. Surely you need to give a guy more than one fricken season before judging him
It's BigFooty, what else do you expect - people being realistic and reasonable?

:p

Shocking skills and a dud?

I think you're confusing Yarran with your AA HFF when he was 18 years of age.

Swan would be Judd if he had Yarran's pace and skill.

Yarran's left foot is pure sex after he hit his teammate on the lead after a mark.

Insane skill on both sides of the body.

Yarran was definitely worth pick six.

I'd rather have Ziebell than Rich.

It is still way to early to be judging yarran , he has played what one year?

I think he will turn out to be a very good player and people on here are being way too harsh on the young bloke.

However, Carlton did make a short term mistake in not taking Rich. Rich is a ready made AFL player, he's had more experience than Yarran having been a pivotal part of Subiaco's side in recent years. He could have been the difference between Carlton getting top four this year or not.

Time will tell. It's only both player's first year. Too much is expected from teenagers.

.

Did you wath the Pies in their last final ...3 quarters of the team were complete hacks ...because we are judging on one game ..right ?

Every time you post you make yourself look stupider and stupider ..and thats some feat for you .
