It shows how unbalanced this comp is when 'missing out' on a bunch of stars moving to your club is considered 'bad luck' by Victorian fans.

Meanwhile we have a truckload of cash and no-one to give it to.
I'll happily sit through several bad years if it means Clarkson dishes up flag or several with a 2005-08 style rebuild...the best time I've ever had watching this footy club, and that includes the 1980's when I was a fully observant teenager knowing exactly what was going on...

Im pretty happy that fell through in the end.
Injuries, dropped due to bad form, and when he plays he is good but not great. For 3 years now.
The AFL can enjoy paying his salary for the next 4 or 5 years.
Meanwhile we are drafting awesome kids and still have a warchest to chase players.

It's great that Richmond are free falling out of the top 8, so Hawthorn can slide in

So had we spent $1m a year on him we wouldnt have a war chest and we wouldnt be getting good football out of him ?

It was in reference to the last line about your awesome kids and war chest.
It'd be weird to do that in a thread about Hawthorn doing a Brisbane but overall I'd agree with you.

Day and Jiath are absolute gems. If Kosi fixes his kicking he will be a great key forward, Moore is doing his bit to fill the enormous gap left by Cyril and Poppy, Scrimshaw is Birchall 2.0 but can take contested marks. The brief glimpse of DGB showed the hype was real. And our midfield stocks should get a big boost after the draft this year.
Even young Timmy O'Brien is starting to come along.

We latched onto several; Adcock, Brennan, Hooper, Mitch Clark, Josh Drummond and then later Rich, Rockliff, Redden, Hanley and rotated through many key forwards Close, Freeman, Hammelmann

How many of thrm were getting Brownlow votes, or coach votes, or top 5 or 6 in B & Fs?
I mean B & Fs where 3 or 4 players werent getting equal 1st so they would stay.

Are you guys going that well?
Adcock did quite well in the B&Fs. Clark was one of the top 3-4 rucks one year. Brennan could have been anything. Unfortunately you need more than some handy flankers to drive your team up the ladder.
