It's a bit of mess now but we didn't have much luck.
The early retirement of Cyril that came out of nowhere.
Missing out on Lynch, Coniglio and Whitfield.
Our best player breaking his leg after a Brownlow winning season where we finished top 4 (at the end of H&A).
At the end of 2016, I daresay we didn't prepare ourselves for any of these (and wouldn't have expected to prepare for #1 and #3). The lack of a FA probably the most damning.

It shows how unbalanced this comp is when 'missing out' on a bunch of stars moving to your club is considered 'bad luck' by Victorian fans.

My heart bleeds for them!
And they thought Cogs was in the bag as well which made it even better.
Yes the war chest......Im pretty happy that fell through in the end.
Injuries, dropped due to bad form, and when he plays he is good but not great. For 3 years now.
The AFL can enjoy paying his salary for the next 4 or 5 years.
Meanwhile we are drafting awesome kids and still have a warchest to chase players.
You sound a bit like a North supporterIm pretty happy that fell through in the end.

No but your kids don't look particularly good and I don't see the war chest really matters until Hawks look half decent again. You think Cogs has played well since he got his new contract ?

It was in reference to the last line about your awesome kids and war chest. So why the need to make a "lol norf" reference to my post ?
It'd be weird to do that in a thread about Hawthorn doing a Brisbane but overall I'd agree with you.I mean I could talk about 3 first rounders for Kelly..

Day and Jiath are absolute gems. If Kosi fixes his kicking he will be a great key forward, Moore is doing his bit to fill the enormous gap left by Cyril and Poppy, Scrimshaw is Birchall 2.0 but can take contested marks. The brief glimpse of DGB showed the hype was real. And our midfield stocks should get a big boost after the draft this year.
Even young Timmy O'Brien is starting to come along.
This sounds a lot like the opinions of Brisbane fans post our threepeat and we still had Brown, Black, Power and a few other guns
Who were the exciting youf in 2006 to 2016 ?
We latched onto several; Adcock, Brennan, Hooper, Mitch Clark, Josh Drummond and then later Rich, Rockliff, Redden, Hanley and rotated through many key forwards Close, Freeman, Hammelmann
Also the go home 5
So... Rich.
That's my point. Many false dawns in a rebuild.
Being a rich Vic club can certainly help though
How many of thrm were getting Brownlow votes, or coach votes, or top 5 or 6 in B & Fs?
I mean B & Fs where 3 or 4 players werent getting equal 1st so they would stay.
Day, Jiath, Kosi, Moore, Scrimshaw and DGB are getting brownlow votes?
There wasn't coaches votes in those days
Guessing you're a bit young to remember how much talent Brennan, Clark and Hooper had
Day will for last week.
Jiath and Scrimshaw will both be high up in the B & F.
Ive been watching football since 1978 BTW.
