Are Port over doing it

Boak, Grey & Ryder are all 29+.

A massive group of your best 22 are 27ish and other than Wines there is nothing of real note that are 23 and under.

So yes in a about 3 years your list will drop off. Hence why i see Hinkley is rolling the dice for a premiership
We have solid players under 23 coming through...Amon, Howard, DBJ, Bonner, SPP, Johnson, Houston, Marshall, Atley who have all got a taste of senior footy
I think the drop off is a myth..all teams have players retiring, it all comes down to list management and having contingencies in place to replace them eventually. The position I'd be most concerned with is Ruck as we have all our eggs in Billy Frampton (21 y.o who has been injury riddled) & Peter Ladhams (promising Rookie) basket

LT a very nice option for Port

To be fair only SPP looks like potentially being a top grader.

Which proves my point. Those kids wont be of the same class and able to replace Boak, Grey, Ryder ext

better than R Gray and Wingard.. righty'o.
A bit overdramatic, I never said or even alluded to that. I meant guys like Spud Mckenzie that you picked up as a dfa and the average player over a career life span.

fair enough.

If we gave up picks through a trade for McKenzie, i'd probably agree... but paying absolute zero for him is worth the risk IMO.

Good on Hinkley and co for actually having the balls to roll the dice.

Rockliff is a massive get and Motlop and Watts could go either way but the reward far outweighs the risk. I don't mind giving McKenzie a one year deal, the guy can play.

The only thing is their list is aging so they would want to win a premiership in the next 3 years because their list will fall away very quickly after that
We hear you.... but ageing list? Hardly.

It does spark a little of desperation.

Obviously the club has identified that the draft isn't much at all and has no interest in recruiting players from the VFL, SANFL, WAFL or NEAFL either. Time will tell if it works.

Have you seen the SANFL? It is full of the payers we already delisted. Last year we had the top goal kicker in the SANFL for the past two seasons and he wasn't good enough for AFL.
We are out of this draft because we signed SPP last year, it was a great move.

Technically Thomas and McKnezie were state league players (as reserves). Your point is invalid.

Well your opinion is your opinion.
By that measure (and looking at our selected team in the finals) do you rate Melbourne as an ageing list?

My point was. You are in a premiership window over the next 3 years before your top players are going to fall away.

Thats fact and there is nothing wrong with that. The club have built your list to peak now.

Nope.

Purely on the basis our best players are mainly in the 25 and under bracket whereas Ports are in the 27+ bracket. I guess that plan long term for us is to get into Ports current situation.

Dont take my opinion as having a go at Port, its to contrary. Port are in the premiership window imo. Its just once that closes in about 3 years they will fall away and rebuild again. Thats not a negative it happens to all sides.

Like i said, opinions.
I personally dont think our current is as good as what many think, and conversely that our future is as compromised as many think.

lions were the last club to try this tactic some years back and it was a dismal gigantic failure ! I hope for ports sake they don't slip back because questions will be asked and heads will roll and lets face it rocky aside they are a motley crew they have gathered and getting worse by the day and it isn't over yet

Thomas may not be the most likable bloke on-field, but I think a lot of people forget that he's actually a very good footballer when he's on. A change of scenery might do him good.

Big difference.

Voss brought in dickheads like Fevola and isolated great clubmeen like Rischitelli and Bradshaw and got rid of young players like Henderson.

Port brought in quality and got rid of nothing really!
