They're not tanking. They haven't been good for two/three years. Really just won a bunch of games last year by catching teams off guard early. Early in games and early in the season.

Haven't played a complete 4 quarter game in years against an opponent of any quality.

Correct, although I would say 'year', not years.

No team really plays at full capacity without some kind of momentum swing for 4 quarters - unless you're talking about a top-4 vs bottom-4 clash.

The last genuinely good game we played against decent opposition was Round 8 2015 against North at home. Before that we actually were pretty good for a while there.

But like GWS from their inception we never tanked we were just too young ...

We played hard and tough footy and you could visibly see the consistent improvement.

If we had of kept Hay, Holland, Lekkas, Thompson and a whole bunch of other old dudes we would have won more games then but that is not tanking.

It's blatantly obvious how rubbish Freo is without their key players, literally no depth as with your typical Ross Lyon teams and then you've got nobody up forward with Pavlich looking like a pensioner up there.

Name me 1 team that could cover the loss of their number 1 & 2 inside midfielders, number 1 & 2 outside midfielders, number 1 ruckmen, number 1 (and now 2) KPDs and still be a little bit competitive, just one team will do!

Im not sure if you really have a clue or not but its not like they arent key players either, all but Hill and Bennell have been All Australian footballers over the past 3 seasons and even they (Hill and Bennell) have been there abouts!

The point is, they are key players and no depth player is going to cover them, especially when they go down before half time of games like Sandilands and Fyfe!

im for clubs being able to do whatever they please. my own club has played games with err, not exactly throwing everything at a lost season. its smart.

Of course they're tanking everyone knows it. The AFL should start an immediate investigation which will last 2 years, at the end they will be found guilty of not tanking, fined $500k which the AFL will pay themselves after six months.

Not tanking but there list was a bit shaky given the age profile and lack of quality talls/forwards even before the season started. You then factor in that there younger players have had very little exposure at AFL level on top of injuries to key players has been a bit of a perfect storm scenario.

You would have to think that there will be a large turnover of players going into next year so the draft/trade period will be critical

I'd doubt that, if Hogan wants to go to Freo it won't matter what pick they have, a trade will happen.

So Hogan has agreed to go to Freo?

Which means Freo are going to tank to get an early pick to trade even though he is in contract? I don't think they will use that tactic after GWS baulked at their offer for an in contract KPF last trade period.

Hogan is going nowhere, if he hasn't signed as of round 15 next year then the speculation will be justified. It's like Neale this year for us, some players like to wait to the end of the year (like Pavlich).

We're not tanking like Carlton / Melbourne (or was it Richmond) did in the "Kruezer Cup". As has been proven by clubs like Carlton, tanking can do far more harm than good for clubs in the long run.

Playing youth and trialling new tactics is different to playing a forward pocket in the Ruck.

As someone who watches every game they play intently, I have to (respectfully) disagree with the "given upamd have no spirit..." comment.

Our second and third quarters were proof that there is a fire there. Clearly something has occurred that has caused a downward performance but the players clearly care. At the end of the day the buck stops with Ross. He will be held accountable for performances.

I have no issue with us bottoming out the way we are. Do I like it? Hell no. I hate turning on the TV with the feeling of impending doom.

But it is nothing like what we went through prior to Ross Lyon. We would play the top team and beat them only to lose the next 3 games to bottom places sides.

The side has put in some decent quarters of footy but we have lost the ability to play for 4 quarters.

While losing a stack of games is not ideal I would rather us finish bottom for a year or 2 than finish in the 7-10 bracket for 5 years.

No guarantees that we will rocket back up the ladder but if we can get more development into Weller, Blakely, Langdon, Collins, Taberner etc and then add in A.Pearce, Fyfe, Bennell, Apeness and McCarthy we should be a team with a functioning forward line......then wins?

Oh, and Pav has earned the right to retire on his own terms.
