Are The Dockers Tanking?

Aging list, a gameplan unsuited to the current fast-paced style being favored by most sides this season and an over reliance on a handful players, several of whom are well past thier prime.

It's not tanking they're just not in a position to be competitive.

The Fremantle Football Club is making a helpline available for supporters who may be disappointed with recent performances.

The helpline number is ‘1800 10 10 10’ - that's 1800 won nothing, won nothing, won nothing.

;)
Before any primary school level trolls at us I'd be be more worried about your own potential 'dead cat bounce' at the moment after 'topping up' your aging list. Lost to Collingwood and Carlton, blow the GWS game (lead by a dumped in form SJ ) and there is a tough run of games coming up after..

Yep, add a massive injury list to it and that's why we are stuffed.

Shouldn't you be on the bus on the way to school at this time of the day?? Or have they let you use your phone at recess?? ;)!!

Old list- that wasn't rejuvenated or really improved during off season, injuries and a lot of lists that were similar in quality but younger- not a real shock that they've dropped of, just surprising that it's this bad.

Ross Lyon isn't going to do everything he can to win games this year, he'll experiment and he's kind of hinted/said that.

Each to their own, but I think being 0-10 with the oldest list in the comp is more worrying than being 7-3, with the bulk of the list aged between 22 and 28.

I'd still be piping down for the moment if you are gonna come on here with witless trolls. Geelong looking like pretenders at the moment after their supporters carried on like peanuts all preseason.

Are you talking about this witless troll from the Geelong thread.

Topped up for a dead cat bounce.

Or this one that I responded to?

Trolling isn't for me, but it's clearly something you enjoy, so feel free to continue.
I just think Fremantle have more concerns than Geelong do.

That's really the best you can come up with?

I came to this thread originally to defend Ross Lyon and his choice to play kids.

He clearly wasn't tanking at the beginning of the year, but Freo weren't winning games, so the logical option is to make some changes, which he has attempted to do.
Injuries to key players have forced a significant re-think in how Fremantle operate this year, and some moves have been fruitful (Walters into the middle).
The big issue is tried and true players are either struggling (Ballyntyne, Barlow), too close to the end (Pavlich) or injured. I don't think Ross trying to find ways around these issues is tanking at at all.

Instead I responded to your troll, which obviously was a waste of time.

Having watched the game on Saturday, I am fairly confident that they are, in fact, not tanking. It's a combination of injuries, form, belief, game plan and success fatigue. I sat through the same thing after back to back grand finals in 2009/2010. The Dockers will need to make some drastic changes to avoid going into full blown rebuild mode now. It's unfortunate for them, they have loyal supporters.

To the dockers fans out there, at this point in time would you honestly want to finish better than bottom 3 in regards to the draft pick you would be getting?

If you can get pick 1-3 that could be used as bait to lure hogan over from the dees. From all the phantom drafts and draft croft threads on the site it seems that this draft is a pretty even one with a lot of midfielders, so best case scenario for freo is to lure hogan over ad still snare mcarthy.

Add in bennell and fyfe next year with guys like mundy your list is looking not bad. If Mayne leaves hope that still gives you another pick this year.

Hope that a few guys step it up like tucker and balic.

Agree with this. If we can somehow walk away from this draft with hogan and McCarthy it will almost make up for years of shite drafting.

Oh this guy again, is this the story you a running with and are you sure you want to stick by it? Dont run off like the last time you got shut down in here!!!

Name me 1 team that could cover the loss of their number 1 & 2 inside midfielders, number 1 & 2 outside midfielders, number 1 ruckmen, number 1 (and now 2) KPDs and still be a little bit competitive, just one team will do!

Im not sure if you really have a clue or not but its not like they arent key players either, all but Hill and Bennell have been All Australian footballers over the past 3 seasons and even they (Hill and Bennell) have been there abouts!

Uhhh Essendon?

#1 and #2 mids - Watson and Heppell
#1 and #2 ouside - Stanton and Hibberd
#1 ruck - Bellchambers
#1 and #2 KPP - Hooker and Hurley. #3 if you count the Carlisle trade.

Have beaten Melbourne and been more than competitive in at least half their games this year on the backs of a bunch of players that everyone thought would get pumped by 100+ every week.

They have Cooney and Kelly in close to career best form, found some KPP talent in Brown and Hartley and have developed one of the best young mids Ive ever seen in Zach Merrett, a player they took with pick 27 in the draft.

Freo have had their chances but to be where they are now after the last 3 years is nothing short of a disgrace and I say that as someone who supports Ross Lyon being locked in for the rebuild!!

Even if we do tank, we'll get screwed

in all seriousness these are factors that have seen us fall so much IMO:
  • Undeveloped Youth. By wanting to stay competitive and winning the second most amount of games between 2013-2015 (after hawks), we didn't bleed our young players successfully like hawks or even Sydney have.
  • Player reliance. We also relied way too much on Fyfe (fyfe has a blistering opening 9 games and we don't lose, he dropped off the pace due to injury and our form suffered).
  • No Quarterback. The "quarter back" role is big in 2016 and our best, Johnson, is injured and has hardly played footy in the last year. We have no idea who our next best "quarter back' is...we've been trailing Sheridan, Hill, Mundy, Ibbo and they've all had good and bad things.
  • Game Plan alteration. Changing our game plan to be attacking requires us to be more skillful, whereas we relied on less skilled players in the past such as Muzugu, De boer, Barlow etc... It takes half a second for a player to get pressure on them and with an altered gameplan, we seem to be hesitating to where to correctly kick. This is all it takes for pressure to build and miss targets. Conversely last year, we had our game plan down pat and players could pinpoint targets even when they weren't looking because they knew or trusted the gameplan.
  • New coaches. Probably a small effect but the players had good rapport with Brett Kirk and Simon Llyod. New coaches, new idea, unfamiliar, probably another small compounding factor in losses
  • Poor form. Aside from our top outs, form from our usually good players such as Hill, D Pearce, Barlow, Ibbo, Pav, Ballantyne, Mayne, Clarke has been well below par. These guys needed to lift and really hasn’t
  • New players been injured. Harley Bennell and Shane Yarren. Two amazing players who would have added to our list. But instead haven’t played a game and our list is the same. We all know that you need to keep adding every year.
  • Low/No confidence. Shell shocked round 1, demoralised by GC at home round 2, no wins to date. Confidence at winning games would not be high, we’re the anti-Richmond.
  • Injuries. Yeah looks they’re bad and have contributed to things but every team get injuries, look at Gold Coast and they’ve won a few games! It adds to our problems but it shouldn’t be the be all and end all.

The combination of all these factors have seen the shocking decline.

HOWEVER I do think we’re treading a very fine line of playing for the future and tanking. Freo have publicly said that we’re rebuilding, that games will focus on development and team selections are different now were at the bottom than if we were 10-0 (i.e dropping older players like Barlow). It almost sounds like they are “trying” to win in a physical sense, but the selections and constant changing of players, positions and structures appears to be not based on the premise to win that particular game. Fine line.

In anycase I bleed purple. it sucks but I still enjoy watching my football and seeing new players emerge :thumbsu:

Shit drafting or unlucky drafting with moribito etc.

the way the draft is its more reliable to trade for ready made players as a lot of it is hit and miss.

yeah another useless post
If useless posts shouldn't be posted in the first place, then why did you post that? My post was obviously useless, so your post calling it useless was therefore useless as well. :)

Age ≠ Maturity, so 'how old are you' insults are not insults at all.

Oh, thanks for telling me. I have not followed the progress of my team over the past two weeks, I was unaware of us pushing out Stevie J, I had no idea who we were playing next (even after buying tickets), and I have not studied our draw at all.

Clearly, I spend too much time worrying about Fremantle - long enough to write one whole joke! - and not enough time worrying about my own team.
