Wow Sherriff sounds frigging awesome!

Thanks so much for the reports, they're great.

Glad your flight over the handlebars ended up OK, no broken bones ...

Sounds like the air is noticeably thin over there, even just strolling around.

Great stuff there La Shez.

I hear day 3 involves jelly and Graeco Roman wrestling. If they ask if you want to be the mummy or the daddy, go for the latter.

Love the detail in your reports and the easy to read layout with paragraphs and punctuation! Do you get a chance to enjoy the scenery through which you are riding or running? I must admit to being a doubting Thomas re Arizona but you are convincing me so far of the worth of the trip. Sounds exhilarating, Mr Sherriff! Enjoy.

Do you have any favourites among the players?

Could we use one of our rookie draft slots on one Sherriff, T. ?

DTM? Anyone?

Mr Sherriff, the read and the video were exhilarating and a bit scary to read and watch. I kept thinking about Nathan Brown's kneecap and wondering if anyone got injured. Actually, I was probably too gripped by your description of the walk (run?) and the surroundings to think of the players. 18km in 5+ hours, with the long down and up stretches must have been a real test.

You have really done yourself proud over there, not only for what you have done but for the trouble taken to document the experience and share it with us poor sods back home. How much quicker than you did the players go through? How is the general feeling among the boys? You mention the new boys - I gather the three from the draft did not also go to Arizona?

Thanks for bringing it all back homefor us. Watch your kneecaps!

Great work, Sherriff.

That Petrovic/Divac doco you refer to in the Day 4 blog is a ripper, huh.

living vicariously through your posting (minus the increased fitness). Keep it up!

...Now you've been there five days, are you starting to habituate to being around the guys, or do you still feel like you have to pinch yourself that it's real?

**** i'm jealous! Sounds like a blast! What are the boys like?

I'll answer all those in one.

Look, these fellas are under a heap of stress. Learning game plans, away from family and the young players still getting to know everyone else. So it's tough for them.

So it makes it even more gratifying to have them happily chat to you, pat you on the back and generally get around you. I never wanted this to be a 'tourist' trip (i.e. standing back and watching what they do, being all fan-like) and I think there's a level of respect back for all of us execs getting right in there and putting in as much effort as they do.

We've been eating together in the dining hall, talking bullshit in the lobby, eating out at restaurants, doing warmups, having spas and pool sessions and fitting right in. I'm usually a bit of a quiet type, so it's taken me a little getting used to that these guys talk all the time! I'm getting there.

The coaches are great blokes, too. Have spent a bit of time with Mitch Hahn, Ben Hart, Robert Harvey, Skinny Lappin and of course Bucks. They have an enormous workload while they're here - not only are they running the sessions, but going back and reviewing videos, monitoring progress. It's like teachers at a school essentially. But they're more than happy to sit down and chat, hang around over dinner and generally get around us.

Well impressed with the club culture. The side-by-side isn't a marketing slogan. It's something that everyone takes ownership of - taking care of your mates, taking care of those that matter, keeping everyone up and focussed. It's a bit intoxicating - I wish more workplaces could be like this.

The new boys are right in there and setting the pace well. This morning's session was we execs and the hikers from yesterday. We walked over to the new rec centre, throwing snowballs and being stupid. Then a light workout, weights, stretching and skills session. Again, the young fellas were getting us involved with the group and making sure we were putting in.

Oh, and MyManDawes - the quickest time was 4:37. The last stragglers came in at around 5:20.

Happy weekender everyone.

Here's the blog entry for Day 4 - Grand Canyon walk.

what - no time for a travelogue on the video sherriff ? some great scenery and all we get is breathing :p

seriously this is great stuff you are putting together. gives perspective to what the team (and you) go thru so early in a campaign.

weve previously heard from others what the air is like and the difficulty it adds to exercise - how would you describe it ?

It's not so bad now. But at first it really knocks you. Just walking up a flight of stairs can make you a bit dizzy (from the effort). The first run we did from here at the Hotel to the Skydome left me nearly spent - barely made it up a short hill at one point.

The doc has given us special altitude pills (i.e. to help our bodies adjust) and that's helped no end. Pretty right now. Today we did soft laps around the rec centre and I felt like normal.

Hey Sherriff, do you get the sense that the presence of you and the other execs there has nothing to do with raising revenue, but everything to do with exposing the lads to inspiring and successful people outside of football? With a view to inspiring their football? With a view to exposing them to what life can be like after football?
