Ben Dixon predicts * will play in a prelim this year…….

No need to elaborate on that.

Finishing 2nd is the absolute priority for us. Avoid the Swans away at all costs.
Not so sure about that. 2nd or 3rd likely doesn't matter, as (at the moment) it looks like being 2 Melbourne-based clubs, so will be at the 'G. Who wins that match has a great advantage with a home prelim at the 'G. However, the loser (assuming they win in week 2) then gets to travel to Sydney for a prelim (again assuming Sydney win week 1).

4th though, faces Sydney week one, but will get a home final week two. Win that and they face the winner of 2v3 in a prelim - likely at the 'G.

So the question then becomes - would you rather face Sydney in Sydney in week one or week three of the finals?

It's a problem with the current final 8 system. In some circumstances, it's better to finish 4th than 2nd or 3rd. This year might be one of those.

If we finish 2nd or 3rd, we really want to win that first match - it becomes a mini-GF.

We won’t lose at the G in finals.

Simple.
