Ashes 2021/22

You say this, but I could imagine if you had to travel to the UAE & England for a continuous four-month stretch, keeping yourself cooped up in hotel rooms the entire time & sending a quick cheerio to your family & children on Christmas Day via zoom, your tune might have slightly changed by the end of it. Yes, cricketers get paid a decent amount of coin. They are professionals & it is their livelihood. The money they earn is generated by viewers such as yourself who tune in to watch the games. I get the those dastardly Poms are "the enemy", but they're also human beings.

Credit to the ECB for doing all they can to ensure the series will go ahead with a full strength England lineup.
Mate that’s there job if they didn’t want to travel the world they should have stuck to club cricket. Also outside of Root Buttler and Stokes none of them will play the t20s and the ashes.

Seriously, this post might have made sense before the outbreak of a global pandemic which necessitates bio-security & isolationism. Give me a time machine & I'll personally travel back in time & tell Joe Root he should just stick to club cricket.

Four about 3 squad members max
Sibley
Burns
Crawley
Root
Stokes
Pope
Buttler
Bess
Broad
Anderson
Wood/Robinson

Majority of them aren’t playing in the World Cup
And some of them are going to play both. Besides, squads haven't even been announced yet.

I understand people really value their summer entertainment, but the concerns raised by the England players & the ECB are legitimate.

Yeah because when you set your sights on becoming a professional cricketer you do it on the assumption that unlike 120 years of touring cricketers before you, you will have to quarantine for nearly a month either side of your trip, and during the series themselves you live either at the ground or in a hotel room with no contact with anyone bar your teammates.

No they are not, if they don’t tour they should not get paid simple as that. They just know they are no hope of winning so they don’t want to show up. They don’t call them whinging Poms for nothing and this is a new pathetic low from them.

They had no problem going to the IPL when their pay was dependent upon it

Lol what about when this all started they would be a month on the ship and then be in England for 3 months before shipping home that didn’t stop Bradman averaging 99.

They won’t get paid. In what world do you think they’d get paid their full quota for not playing?

again, 4 of them went to the IPL and again, the IPL runs for about a third of the time those players would be touring.

mate if you’re so across the moral rights and wrongs of what people should and should be doing with their freedom to make adult choices as grown adults, go and work for the government and get all this sorted out

Please, guys, no more bad posting.

Yes and the trip itself was an adventure.

wow well you know what? 500 years ago women were giving birth with no pain relief. I guess women who have a human being fly out their night tools these days should just stay silent then.

I still haven't heard any proposals on what will happen for this summer and with the WTC if the Ashes are postponed. How do we play South Africa & the West Indies at home as part of the WTC if England end up playing next summer? Are those two teams prepared to come here this summer?

Threats of postponing are some seriously bad press for Cricket. If some player's demands aren't given into and some players don't want to come then fine, but postponing talks need to stop.

Exactly there would be so many blokes desperate to come and play.

You do realise you're being a bit ridiculous, right?
England threatening to pull out are the only ones being ridiculous. They are just selfish soft cricketers Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, Dawid Malan, Eoin Morgan, Chris Woakes, Tom Curran, Sam Billings and Sam Curran, Moeen Ali they all had no issues going to the IPL as if they pulled out they weren’t going to be paid.

If the series doesn’t go ahead it never can as we are locked in with the future tours program

Bahahahahahaha

that last sentence is priceless. We are locked in how? The same way we were locked in to tour South Africa?

In no way can you can compare this to pulling out of South Africa. While I didn’t support that decision they players were unvaccinated going to a country that was getting 40k cases per day.

We have contractual arrangements to host sides next year games that have to go ahead as part of the test championship so we just can’t cancel them to appease England

do vaccinations come with the price of admission at your ivory tower?

Lol you are trying to defend the undefendable. The Poms are a bunch of spoiled w***ers they are happy to bail on this tour as their pay is guaranteed. Funny how when it wasn’t seeing the family wasn’t a priority

No I’m not mate. You’re attacking people for being human and exercising their right to a choice and frankly you sound like a dickhead doing it.

what pay is guaranteed? You think they’ll get their tour and match payments if they don’t come? You think their retainer won’t be impacted if their board Isn’t getting the rights money that the tour generates?

it’s ****ing sport. Stop trying to make out like it’s a moral issue and that you’re the Judge and jury.

Wanting to be at home with your family is selfish now.

I really have heard it all.
They're allowed to stay home that's fine. But that shouldn't mean a whole tour gets cancelled, just because a few don't want to go. Could you imagine the outrage if Smith and Warner didn't want to go to England, and then people were saying we should just cancel it because two people can't go. It's utterly ridiculous

If it was just two, yes. And if that was the board decision, why the **** would anyone hold it against the players - either the ones who did or didn’t want to tour? The personal judgement of the players themselves is what people don’t get - and nor should they because it’s stupid.

Well its the players that are complaining as well. So it's not like they can escape the critiscm. Ex-players are also saying it should postponed/cancelled, it makes no sense.

They are centrally contracted players meaning the majority of their wage is paid to them in a salary. The ECB doesn’t lose money from the rights of the tour doesn’t go ahead as the home nation is the one who sells the rights and then covers the cost of hosting the tour.

If the ECB want to pull the pin they should have to financially compensate cricket Australia as losing an entire test summer threatens the professional game here

Yes and all sports impacted by Covid have had to adjust their pay structure depending on what impact it has had. If a board doesn’t get the revenue from a tour that doesn’t go ahead, particularly the revenue from a tour as lucrative as the ashes, there is a probability that in addition to missing out on the pro rata payments they get from the tour, their salary is impacted as well.

yes the host country is the one who sells the rights. You think the ecb doesn’t get a slice of the pie as well particularly from sky?

it your problem is with the compensation from the board that pulls the pin that’s fine. Stop putting it on human beings who have a choice over every action they take

Mate the blokes who don’t come out are spoiled. They have an obligation as much as the board do, we toured their when there was no upside for us so sky could get their content and so the ECB could get the money to pay these blokes

No the ECB doesn’t receive any money from Sky just like 9 didn’t give CA any money in 2019. That’s why there is an even amount of tours

That’s also why India always come here and we rarely go there we want them for the money we can make off them and they can make that no playing anyone at home

Definitely the ECB needs to compensate us if they don’t tour they have asked so much from so many nations so they can meet their contractual obligations and now they are threatening to BBQ us
