I know this week there's a lot of joshing and by-play between the WCE board and the NMFC board, but if I can help relations between our two great clubs by letting you in on any information I might have about the mighty Roos, then the cause of football is advanced.

Thanks Captain, that's a very good question. I've heard it said that North's development in the 1990s was stunted by the emergence of West Coast as an Australia-wide footballing powerhouse. Notwithstanding all the help the AFL gave us at North, what with equalisation payments, Friday night football, being gifted the '96 & '99 flags et cetera, we just found it difficult to compete with the juggernaut that was the West Coast Eagles.

Now let's not forget, most of the North team playing today were in their formative years during this period. Could it perhaps be, that some form of primal, innate fear, was instained into today's North team? A knowledge that no matter how well you played against West Coast, a loss was only one Nic Naitanui mark-and-goal away?

It's hard to say, without opening up all of the North players' heads and actually looking inside.

Not true, and whilst I've got my ideas who started this particular canard, I can't say for sure. We play the odd pre-season game in Ballarat because our gameplan requires us to play every now and again at an antiquated hell-hole in the middle of nowhere, just in case the AFL one day decides to play the Grand Final at Subiaco Oval.
