Assistant Coaches - wanted

I thought the club had found the new assistants but were just hammering out the final details. So it probably won't be Rob Harvey.

Aren't we looking for a defence and ruck coach? Isn't Harvey a midfeild coach, plus I think there has been mention of him going to Collingwood.
If not it will be only a matter of time before Manchester City, I mean Melbourne throw money at him and appoint him.

Yep...Favourite son at the Saints though hard to see him going.. Reports are that Watters wants complete control of the coaching and has Harvey earmarked as the Magoos coach...which makes sense Brett Lovett was sacked at the Zebras..

This could be some reasons people dont want Voss:

1. Our clearances have gonehill over the last 2 years
2. We STILL havent figured out how to do kick- ins, and our attempts at "the huddle" is just laughable
3. We STILL havent figured out how to defend kick- ins. Why is it opposition teams can go from goal to goal in about 15 seconds yet Brisbane cant get it out beyond the 50.
4. Our skill level is shocking. How many times do we see Brisbane keep possession of the ball without a silly error. We are lucky to hit a target 3 times in a row before a skill error comes in.
5. Dumb Play. Now this has been going on for to long now. These are those stupid mistakes that just gets the head shaking in disbelief- poor desicion making, continually choosing the wrong option.
6. Voss not punishing players for poor efforts- Rich prime example- going soft at least on 3 occasions last year- nothing done about it. He has to be tougher and the players have to learn that giving an ok effort just isnt good enough.
7. No- one willing to fill the hole in the backline- either our players are too scared, the players dont know how to play in defense, or Voss and co dont teach the players this.
8. Stop bloody eating lollies. Standing on the sidelines, eating lollies, but more importantly- laughing when players make mistakes just shits me. Get the player off and get into him! You dont see Malthouse accepting that.
9. Dont talk so much lies in the post match conference- we get that you have to try and lead the supporters on, but when it comes to loss after loss, instead of feeding us the same lies- do something about the problems.
10. Team selection and match ups- v Carl prime example- Rockliff and Black start on the bench (why youd have your 2 best centreman on the bench at the start of a game is beyond me) Judd and Murphy start in the centre and within 30 seconds Judds having a shot at goal. Get the god players out there Vossy- theyve just had a god damn week off! Playing Maguire at FF- what, so he kicked a goal in the twos 8 years ago and suddenly he's now a FF. He IS NOT a forward player, never has been, never will be.

Well thats 10 off the top of my head, and before the injury card gets played- it doesnt affect your attempt at the ball or kicking a football 30 meters- and if it did, then picking that player is just stupid.

I could go into more detail but who wants to read a 10,000 word essay.

Excellent, see atleast this creates some discussion, even if i don't agree with most of it, i can at least see what your talking about. For me, a lot of things in those points have been here longer than Voss, and it isn't going to get fixed quick, nor is Voss the reason they are here. I saw a lot of improvement in our team in general last year, i feel whilst many problems weren't completely solved, they did at least improve. I can't believe someone doesn't want Voss as coach because he eats lollies on the sidelines. Seriously, this is not a KPI in him as a coach, and god help any club who sacks a coach for doing so. I understand these might be little habits and so forth you don't like, but really, is it a reason for him not to be coach, especially just because another coach doesn't do it ?

Also things like Voss not being hard on players is a guess, just because he doesn't give them a spray on the field doesn't mean you know what happens during the week. Voss has said before they like to leave somethings on the field and leave it til Monday to review it throughly. Just because this is a different way of doing things, doesn't mean it's not correct. I do probably assume your a little old school too 44, back from where sprays were common. Match ups i do agree with, they got some of them wrong, but they also got some right during the year. Things like Goose at FF was out of a need. I mean, Voss gets potted for trying something different like Goose or Merrett up forward, but if he doesn't change anything he gets done for that. In most supporters eyes, he is doomed either way. Whilst i thought some of those moves weren't great, i was atleast happy that they were trying different ideas. It's certainly better than sticking with what doesn't work.

I think i'll leave it at that, as i think we've hijacked this thread enough. My reply isn't to try prove you wrong or change your mind either 44, just giving you my perspective on a few of your concerns. With that list of yours, you could certainly have reason not to be a fan, likewise like myself you might dismiss most of them as major coach breaking problems. At least this is a discussion on the topic and not just a negative soaked attack, and i think it's a lot more fun to read and participate in.

On topic, i do believe there is 1 more announcement to come, it will be interesting to see who we get, especially after the appointment of muz.

I thought this thread was about assistant coaches, must have misread the title.

Take this any way you like, with or without a grain of salt.

Caroline Wilson advised on 3AW with Healy and King tonight that both QLD teams had sounded out Mark Harvey as an assistant. Healy and Wilson thought that Harvey would more than likely sit out the year as he has kids at UNI in Perth and would not ant to disrupt them. Not sure if anyone else has any other news.

I like the idea of getting past coaches on as freelance consultants ( Malthouse) as forward strategic planners.... bit like the Bali Basher was at Port...

Ahh, the revolutionary "Skype Coaching Model" ...that worked well:D

As per Irel, Laidley and his role was one of the (many) reasons Port were shit in 2011.

If you are going to do something, don't half ass it.

Absolutely...Port Failed because they compromised... lack of money in their Football Department...The calibre of the person chosen in not wanting to be there ... then locked into that person and didn't use other retired coaches...Old rule learn by the mistakes and improve on them.

thread derailed..... Didn't do the Paul Roos' Swans any harm.......back on track

Anyone else concerned that we have yet to announce these key positions?
While we all know that we have been very active in interviews my concern is that we have not appeared to nail anyone as yet.

If we are waiting for the right coaches then OK, but you would have thought the club would have expectations that all positions would have been filled sometime ago.

PS. Now I have finally posted some watch for an announcement any minute now. ;)

According to the club's twitter, there's big news coming today. Either this or re-signings I think.

Are you referring to this:

brisbanelions Brisbane Lions
Morning tweeps! Some big #LIONSNEWS appears to be emerging out of Lions HQ today – stay tuned! #GOWILD lions.com.au

Because to me that sounded like news that has just come up, rather than something like appointing a new coach that they probably would have known about some time ago. We'll see anyway, FWIW I hope you're right and I'm wrong :D

Yehh you could well be right, but what could possibly be breaking news? I doubt the media person at the club would be filled in on all the goings on anyway, so it may be breaking news to them. Either way, I suppose we'll find out quite soon.

The same people who tweet are the people who write the media releases. They are well and truly in the loop.
