Fingers crossed Redden and Banfield have done a Rocky and extended their contracts early.

Big news to me would be the new training facility, change of jumper or player quitting. Something along those lines.
A player re- signing is just news, hardly 4 hour waiting with anticipation news.

If it was a bulk signing of key players similar to the "Leuenberger, Rich, Karnezis, Polec" thing I'd count it as big news... "Black, Redden, Banfield and Hanley" signing would certainly make my day, but yeah, if it's just Blacky resigning, they wouldn't be hyping it up like this.
Training facilities or assistant coaches would be my guess.

I really doubt it'd be just black. He may be the final part of the deal that needed to go through, but I can't see him being the only part. LI said on here a while back that Hanley had re-signed and that they were waiting to sort a few other contracts and re-signings before an announcement. Clearly Black and Hanley are part of that, but by them saying 'a number of other key re-signings' or something along those lines, I'd find it very hard to believe that they'd be all.
i gather we are still 1 assistant and 1 director of coaching short ? must be hard getting any one north.

Are we actually still looking at getting another assistant? If there is no -one out there suitable maybe we just dont bother.

3 days ago Vossy tweeted that there would hopefully be some announcements soon on the assistant coach front, so I don't think we have actually shut up shop on it. Will wait and see I guess.

I would say it's probably a combination of having a lot of competition, many head coaching positions changed, with many top assistants moving into them, which also creates new assistant coach positions. It can be hard to lure people North, and we don't have endless $$$ to make sure we land them. I notice the AFL gave us some blockbuster games in our draw though, obviously to help with the cash flow.
With the likes of Woe and Muz coming on board for us in recent times, it wouldn't surprise me if we get another 'low profile' signing.

Should go hard for Brad Ottens as ruck coach.
Heard on SEN early hours this morning (couldn't sleep) that in 2010 there were 16 coaches and 85 assistant coaches.....2011 there are now 2 more, so 18 coaches, but there is now something like 165 assistant coaches..
..overkill??...necessary??..

Interesting that Vossy tweeted this morning that the coaches are back to work. This would indicate that the assistant coach search hasn't gone to plan because you'd think that the full coaching panel would need to be assembled by now.
