What I find more interesting is the Essendon v Sydney crowd...
Top 4 teams, under the roof/no rain, saturday night...
Sydney would have a shitload more supporters than freo in melbourne so why this number...
embarrassing !

It was actually sold out, as it was for West Coast. Both games about 43,000. Essendon' member seat resell system (it has about 27,000 seat holders as the club requires 11 game members to have a season seat as mandatory) is not working yet. In previou years (with fewer seat holders) these sell out would usually get 47 - 48,000. Presents a new problem for the club in that the stadium is becoming too small.

At least you guys turn up to Etihad. We'd be lucky to get 30,000 if we played Freo there

And why should we play there????? We have a home ground at the MCG? Why can't we be like Freo, or any other interstate team and play 11 home games at our home????
A message there for the AFL ... what would you rather ... 30,000 at Etihad or 40,000 plus at the MCG???

Sometimes we just have to play there. Same with Collingwood. No excuse for not turning up. Our supporters like blaming others. Umpires, Etihad, Rain . The last 2 weeks when crowds have got bigger, the whingers have come out of the closet. They only show up when we're winning. Felt like telling the guy behind me to shuddup against Saints and another one against Freo. Every decision was met with angry complaint and 90% of those decisions didn't bother me one bit. Just dumb and annoying people. No heart no brain. Organ donars required :)

Ever think they're probably distancing themselves from ill-informed and out of touch supporters like yourself!;)

There's no reason to avoid me at the footy. I'm as passionate as they come. But I don't lose my brain like many others. If I was ill informed and out of touch I'd be whingeing like all the others :)

No doubting Richmond's crowd was probably the best for a Victorian club this season - absolutely superb. However, the comparisons with Essendon at Etihad are nothing short of absurd, based on the fact only standing room was available on Saturday night, as it was against WC. Effectively the ground's capacity for Essendon games is only about 44k as a result of members not turning up. I'm sure we'll see this again when we play Hawthorn in R.18; whilst the ground against Geelong will almost certainly be larger because it's Geelong's home game. There's serious issues with Etihad, and futhermore, you just don't get the same crowds at Etihad as you do at the MCG. Essendon used to draw some very big crowds at the MCG in the 90s; they can't now. And I solely put this down to narrow-minded, incompetent management.

Best :)

I understand the variables etc etc but being both top 4 clubs and sydney having a shit load of supporters here due to south melb... you'd think they would take the opp to role up and see a good game... ah well its all done and done now. onto round 12....

Pfft.. don't think I'll be making it this week :(
I have a half built carport which desperately needs a roof, and this weekend will likely see me at home putting up the trusses with a mate. Driving up to Sydney for the GWS game the week after as penance.

It's a long weekend this week. Queens birthday. See you at the game

Got my roof done MT, and missed a shitty game and a loss :D

Heading off early Friday morning in the car for the GWS game.
