So are you saying the FFA is NOT putting $11m into the back pockets of 2 shadowy consultants? Because that is what the story was all about to me.

Correct - and every Australian has a right to know the precise details because it's their money.

Kudos for The Age for looking into it.

I'm sure there's much more to discover.

FIFA: Australia probe goes on despite clearing of 2022 World Cup bid leaders
By The Associated Press – 2 hours ago

JOHANNESBURG — FIFA will persist with its probe into the ethics of Australia's 2022 World Cup bid despite the campaign leaders being cleared by their government of misleading the state on how they spent public funds.

FIFA said Monday an investigation launched last week has no timetable to report on whether bid leaders offered illegal gifts and inducements to FIFA voters.

On Sunday, Australia's government exonerated bid officials of media claims some consultants would receive hidden seven-figure payments if the bid succeeds.

Australian newspapers also reported bid leaders offered gifts to FIFA executive members, who will choose the 2022 World Cup host Dec. 2.

Bid officials says pearl cufflinks were presented to members of the 24-man ruling panel, and necklaces to their wives, when the FIFA Congress was held at Sydney in 2008 before campaigning began officially in January 2009.

FIFA rules say World Cup bidders can only give gifts of "symbolic or incidental value" which must not influence any decision.

Candidates also cannot criticize rival bids or make deals to trade support.

Australia is competing for the 2022 World Cup with the United States, Japan, Qatar and South Korea. The host for the 2018 World Cup will also be decided Dec. 2, with the U.S. also in the running for that tournament. But it's expected to be awarded to either England, Russia, Spain-Portugal or Netherlands-Belgium.

The bid process is monitored by FIFA Ethics Committee chairman Claudio Sulser, a lawyer and former Switzerland international forward.

No, that has never been in dispute.

The FFA also claimed that they would spend $11m on "consultants/agencies"...so again, what is the problem? They spent the money on exactly what they said they would and the Government agrees!

Someone in Government obviously has a very broad definition of what "consultancy" means.
