Australian cheating at Newlands, where to from here?

SJW talk nonsense about White Male Privilege, but Dave Warner is as close to it as you'll get for definition.

Spoon fed since 16, never worked hard for an opportunity and the frat house jock that thinks he can do whatever he likes as a consequence of years of getting away with grubbiness because he's the school house Captain.

Well F U Dave Warner, enjoy your ban and hopefully we'll be able to enjoy cricket without you even coming back!

Sponsors, jump off this train wreck!

As much I don't like Warner this post is absolutely ridiculous.

Remember the last time we had this whole shit about how we were playing the game too hard?

We turned into soft losers for a while, before we got our balls bck.

This sanction is a crazy over reaction to ball tampering, all of this shit about playing too hard is irrelevant.

I'm talking about his cricketing career and how he's been groomed for a position he didn't earn because of identified talent at 16 and no matter how piss poor his behaviour since, because he's good at cricket we'll just let him do whatever he likes.

How many bad PA stories over the last 5 years have involved Warner? Yet he was still given the vice captaincy.

CA created this monster! Again, why have a Shield competition if a select few never have to go through it. That's the privilege im taking about.

If yr not a troll yr just embarrassing yourself

With respect that is an incredibly naive attitude. The emotions are clearly genuine. These players have dedicated their lives to achieve a certain level and the honour that goes with it........that honour being the chance to wear the baggy green and walk the path that Australian greats have in history if only for a brief time. But it is a double edged sword not just an honour but a burden and responsibility too......to respect and preserve what has been built and passed down through generations of players who have preceded them a standard and ethos about the game and how Australians play it. Time and again they have spilt blood for that honour/ responsibility. Make no mistake the central theme of their uniform heartache is that they now view themselves as failing that responsibility. The whole nation for whom they have made those sacrifices have forsaken them and it tears at their hearts- the immense pain is tangible. You can see it.

This whole thing is very wrong because it is the administrators who through apathy have failed to drive change to acceptable moral standards
Yes that's all good - I'm not a cricket guy so I don't know much about the history etc.

But the question still stands: Would any of these guys be breaking down in private about their betrayal of the honour of the game? Would the failure of responsibility have weighed on them had they never been caught?

And if this honour and responsibility is at the heart of why they play, why is it the administrators who have let them down? The administrators aren't the game's history and the players' honour are they? Why would the administrators need to remind the players of this if the players held it so close and dear to their hearts that they are now inconsolable at having betrayed that honour and shirked that responsibility?

Just sat and watched the Warner press conference. One thing is for sure- there were others involved, he refused to rule anyone else out. Would be a tough pill to swallow knowing that in all probability some are playing tonight that got a way with it while your career is shattered.

Let's not forget that they've probably had no sleep for days, they're jet lagged, themselves and their loved ones have been to hell and back in the passed few days, they've been suspended for a year, they've let their team down, sponsors have walked, etc, etc.

It's a complete cluster ****. They've been treated worse that murderers. The hate is unbelievable.

They'll all be completely wounded, shattered, gutted, devastated and everything else, whether in public or in private.

Just my opinion.

Yeah, here is Lehmann a few weeks ago alluding to just what has played out...

Should have named them when he was first asked in South Africa then shouldn't he??

A bit hyperbolic?

I think you'd be in for a rude shock if you one day ended up in prison for murder.

I don't follow Australia in the cricket. If that makes me unpatriotic, I don't care.

In fact, I don't go for any country in the cricket. I watch because I like to see a good, close game and because I watch it with my cricket-tragic brother.

I probably prefer the Sheffield Shield and follow the Bushrangers in that.

I don't follow Australia because I don't like the way they behave, their self-righteous finger-pointing when any other country does anything wrong (when this incident proves that we are no better), and all the politics that goes on behind the scenes.

Cricket is meant to be a "gentleman's" game, yet the amount of sledging, backstabbing, and intimidation that goes on makes me think otherwise.

I hoped that cricket would get back to how it used it to. I remember in the 80's, that the big rivalry was Australia versus the West Indies.

Australia "hated" the Windies and vice versa. But it was a professional "hate", one that was not personal, but business. We respected them and they were nigh unbeatable then, so it meant a lot when we beat them. But you know, whatever the result, the two teams would get together for drinks and swapping war stories after the Test.

These days, it seems like the hate is real, and countries actually don't respect the others. It is no longer business, but personal.

I hoped that a significant event that occurred would change the culture, once and for all. An event that would bring cricket together in unity.

That event I anticipated would "fix" cricket would be the death and funeral of Phillip Hughes.

I though Hughes' death would stop cricketers in their tracks, and remind them that, at the end of the day, it is just a game. There are things more important in life, and that, in their mourning, they would reach out to each other. I thought things would turn the corner, and cricket would become a "nicer" game again.

It was....for a while. But then people forgot that, and went back to their sledging, cheating ways. Nothing really changed, and, in fact, it seems things have got worse, and there are more divisions than ever.

Why can't we be good enough to beat teams without acting like a pack of flogs?

Smith wont be captain again, Warner won't play another match for australia so of course he won't be a leader.
I’m not so sure. Especially on the “Warner won't play another match for australia” bit. I was in total agreement with you until last night!
The way this batting lineup is going and if Warner starts plundering runs, it will be hard not to pick him again.

From an outside perspective, these "front the media and break down crying" things are, IMO, a sham.

Would any player have gone through the rest of his life breaking down crying in private, guilty and ashamed over his part in the cheating? Not likely. Probably he would have been smug about beating the system and look for other ways to do it.

The tears are for their lost reputation and income, not their decision to cheat.

The most accurate statement made about this whole affair.
