Australian cheating at Newlands, where to from here?

South Africa have played the mental disintegration game better than any team in the past. They left no stone unturned and last night we saw a team that had mentally disintegrated.

SA have combined the efforts of everyone. The players going too far (Rabada, De Kock); the crowd hating on Candace along with the SA Cricket Board posing with SBW Mask wearers.
Using the selective focussed efforts of the SA television crews to drive an agenda.

They have taken it to a new level and certainly one we will not get near from our moral high ground.

They have also been able to play very good cricket while doing all this.

Warner should of said he was driven by anger at the abuse directed at his wife and family (which I have no doubt is at least partly true)

Given how high women are placed on a pedestal in this country he would of been forgiven in a week.
Further more he would be laying the foundation for an appeal on the severity of his punishment.

He may still go down this path

What do you think of the Ben Stokes penalty Chief.
1 tour suspension.
Given the coward punch issue, which often results in a death?

Except that Ben Stokes was defending two guys against two drunken dickheads.

He should have got commended for protecting others, not suspended.

What penalty did the drunken dickheads he hit end up getting?

The Smith redemption in the media continues.

Fairfax Media can reveal investigators were told Smith did not know how the plan would be carried out until after Bancroft had been exposed on the big screen. It's believed they found Smith had expressed his dislike of the plan but did not attempt to stop it.

It's understood CA's investigation found that the sandpaper was used twice on the ball, which umpires believed had not been sufficiently altered to warrant replacement, and had come from a kit bag though it's unclear who supplied it for use. Sandpaper is commonly used by players to smooth their bats.

The revelation about Smith is consistent with CA's charge sheet, which alleged he had "knowledge of a potential plan" to tamper with the ball and did not "take steps to seek to prevent the development and implementation of that plan".

Incorrect.
He whacked a bloke several times who had clearly surrendered.
Not a hero, a typical street bully bogan coward is Ben Stokes.

Are we still believing that Smith did not know about this when Lehmann was alluding to it in the media only a few weeks prior???

This is like the 3rd or 4th time you've posted this. Why the obsession?

Given how high women are placed on a pedestal? Yeah you can sexually abuse and harass and still get paid multimillion dollar contracts. Blokey men who are good at sport hold that 'prestigious' position i think you'll find.

That's whats ridiculous about this whole affair, that a ball in a game and how it behaves carries greater condemnation and gravitas than literally hurting someone physically and psychologically.

Because in an episode that has completely gotten out of control with ridiculous outrage from the public, over the top penalties from CA, evasiveness and likely coverups - that snippet with Lehmann openly alluding to ball tampering gives an insight into what may have actually happened.

we need the truth to come out first and then decide on what is an appropriate penalty rather than the current situation which I don't think is good for cricket, CA, players (mental health) and their families nor the public. It is a grossly unjust situation and the way to sort it out is to first find out what happened. I'm not a huge fan of Warner but I'll be filthy if this is all pinned on him unjustly.

I think we will never know if Australia cheated more or less than their opponents. There will be a price to pay, tv money will be reduced, so perhahs the players will get what they deserve, less money. I do think the suspensions are longer than is fair, especially for Bancroft. As a fan of Aussie cricket, I do forgive the players, it is not as bad as match fixing.

Biggest ban for ball tampering from the past for this is 2 matches. The rest little fines.

This is so over the top.

So all these acts were not premeditated.. what ever,
What nobody has talked about is the extraordinary precedent the CA has set.

Dishonesty = 12 month suspension.

But sportsmen are always dishonest.

Is the CA going to suspend players for not walking after they nick it?

The next time an Aussie does something dishonest on the cricket field this is going to come up.

Utter madness. And there are people who think the suspensions were a good idea.

And on the issue of precedents I wonder about whoever we get to coach our team. Anybody willing to take a job where your bosses are champing at the bit to get you publicly crucified would clearly be too stupid to do a decent job.

The only possibility for salvaging Australian cricket is for Sutherland to apologise for jumping the gun, plead for Lehmann, Smith and Warner to return with double the pay to compensate and Sutherland is the only person left looking to brush off his resume.

For the people who have an issue with the players acting contrite and crying I have to ask what response would have made you happy here?

Is there any way they could have handled this that you wouldn't have attacked?

If Smith had turned up and coldly read out a prepared statement while showing little emotion he would have been attacked as an aloof prick in denial about what he had done.

Short of retiring from the game I really don't think there was much he could do satisfy some here.
