If we play two spinners and an all-rounder (and I'm not convinced of either) then Henriques has to be seriously considered - assuming a reasonable Shield season. He is one of the few that can adapt to batting on low, slow decks. Even if vulnerable to spin, as are all our batsmen, that gives him an edge over most who need flat, hard, fast decks to score anything. He did bugger all last time in India, but so did everyone, and I'm not seeing better options for the conditions.

That said, I would probably play one spinner and no all-rounder. I know, one spinner in India will be seen as madness.
But Indian batsmen are used to playing good spin in those conditions. Aus quicks are that much better than the spin options, that even in spin-friendly conditions they are more likely to get the breakthroughs. Sri Lanka series showed that, even if with the quicks it was really only Starc.

Hopefully Pattinson would be fit, he can change pace and bowl with true cut - rather than just hit the seam - which can be important in those conditions.

But, there is a lot of cricket between now and then. Who knows who will be in and out of form.

I can't see the point in picking two spin bowlers either. We don't have any who will bowl well in those conditions, though we still don't really know about O'Keefe, he just hasn't had enough chances to show if his wiliness can be effective.

Picking two just because it's the SC seems far too rigid when it's not our strength.

Smith didn't give his quicks enough overs against Sri Lanka. It was absurd to give Haze less and less time with the new ball and Mitch Marsh may as well have been picked as a batsman.

Will be interesting to see how Swepson progresses in Shield cricket this season. Seems he's been earmarked as the one for longer format games.
Very talented. Can rip a ball.

Ferguson? Not gonna happen. Neither will Hartley. Lehmann unlikely too.

No thanks to Ferguson and don't really see the point in Hartley coming in to the squad to just carry drinks.

I have to admit though I am intrigued to see how Fawad would go in a test match. Would love for him to take a bag just to pipe down the ridiculous hyperbole that his detractors throw at him. That said, if they are as loud as they are even after being a big factor in winning Shield finals then I guess it probably won't ever go away.

To win in India, you need batsmen who can play spin. Ferguson is one of the best we have. Lehmann, although young and inexperienced, is also a good player of spin.

Handscomb is better and has a better record.

By adopting the white-ball strategies and mindset that contrastingly sees them as the most successful ODI outfit among all Test-playing nations in subcontinental conditions over the past five years, Warner believes.
He has to be hands down the dumbest person ever. We just played exactly like that and we lost. 3-0. To Sri Lanka.

There is no "if".
At least when Warner gets the chance it probably won't be one match after being suspended for breaking team rules and failing to show leadership.
Maybe Smith will be our most resilient captain ever. Maybe a young gun with better captaincy skills will overtake him. Maybe Warner will pull a Warnie. I can dream.
