Cherry vs Troy at Mounties for the belt. After losing her last few matches. Bonza you've done it again.

Cherry isn't really the issue with that match IMO - the issue is that, since Jess' post-match celebrations at Colosseum, I think plenty of people who were there have convinced themselves that we're going to get Jess vs Madison at some point in 2024. (Certainly that's been the case for the handful of fans I've spoken to about it at Renegades and then on Sunday arvo - the story writes itself.)

The first ever woman vs woman match for the PWA Heavyweight title should be a big deal, not something that's thrown away on a Mounties show, and if they understood the significance of it (and obviously if there are plans for Madison to come back for a shot) they'd save that significant event for Troy vs Eagles.

If they were doing eagles vs troy they should have started setting it up. Had troy do a celebration on the last show where she thanks her and thanks others after her so they can start planting seeds... oh yeah pwa

I don't know how realistic that is to be honest, you need to remember Madison Eagles suffered a near career ending knee injury in 2011 and then proceeded to wrestle actively on it for 8 years. She hasn't wrestled in 4 years because of that injury and even in her last year as an active wrestler she was mainly wrestling in tags deep in the midcard because she is obviously limited physically now.

With that in mind I'm not sure how some would be expecting her to come out of retirement with this injury history at almost 40 years old to wrestle Jessica Troy in a monumental and historical match up where she'd have to work 20+ minutes in a very fast paced match and keep up with a woman in her mid twenties who for the most part is considered the best women's wrestler in Australia, it just isn't realistic.

I'm a huge Madison fan but if she comes out of retirement it'll be in a midcard match and most likely in a tag, she's smart enough to know that she isn't going to be able to deliver in a main event anymore which is admirable given what other people in her position do.

I could always be wrong though...

Slex vs Matthews night 1 main event

I wonder if there's a chance that Slex doesn't win the belt after all, and maybe on Saturday night they set up a second title match for Sunday afternoon. I just don't know who it would be.

Ended up with 17 shows in Australia this year
5 MCW
3 ROW
WSW
RIOT
Wrestle Rampage
2 PWA
3 BCW
1 Tamashii

NJPW is at 27 with the leader for the year

I did

all 6 MCW shows
3 Renegades shows
1 Renegades/GCW show
1 BCW show
3 DMDU shows (crazy to imagine now!)
2 TAMASHII shows
3 PWA shows

19 is more than I thought!

I may do a day trip to Mt Gambier to check out Riot City in a few weeks too, but they just don't seem to be announcing very much for the show, and to hire a car and buy a ticket probably makes it a round trip of a bit over $200.

I also want to check out the show time, I'd really want it done by 9.30 SA time so I could drive straight back to Melbourne, but I don't know how realistic that is.

As I mentioned last week, I thought really long and hard about Canberra this weekend, but to me seeing the Luke Watts coronation isn't that exciting, and their big matches (for me) are Tommy vs Slex and the Classics vs Velocities, which it feels like we've seen a bit in Melbourne in the post-COVID era. And if I'm driving a stupid distance to a show? Mt Gambier is a day trip (a tough one, but a day trip), while SLAM requires at least one night accommodation.

Has to be slex going over. Over af. Buddy an American star. Give it to the man.

Drop the belt to Slex on Saturday and then put him in the ring with Jarvis on Sunday

I'd love to think that MCW might be juuust off-Broadway enough that Buddy could job to Delta on Sunday, but sadly I don't think that's the case :(

Mate they didn't want to give her a clean win over Thorpe, a competitive win over Buddy isn't on the cards.

The crowd at this show is unbelievable. I wish it were better lit, and I wish the ring mic audio was better - but if their priority was to make sure their crowd was mic'd pretty well, it was absolutely the right decision, cos the crowd is coming across very well.

As a Raiders fan and a former resident of Canberra, I love everything about the Terry Campese Battle Royal.

Pre-match Viking clap? Love it.
Serious wrestlers like Ricky South coming out to the Raiders music? Love it.
The notion that there's a $10,000 prize in Australian wrestling? Amazing. ("Congrats on winning the $10k battle royal! Here's your $75 match fee!")

And my favourite part was Victor the Viking and Velda the Valkyrie standing around like spare pricks in the background of the match as "guest referees" before randomly distracting Rig (wearing a Knights jersey) and causing his elimination.

This was the most fun Battle Royal I've seen in ages.

Sorry for the repeat posting.

Just thought I'd post the link. This was a really outstanding show. The main event wasn't much, but the crowd didn't care, they went home thrilled! The crowd looked and sounded great, the visual presentation was great, and there were 3 really good matches, a great "crowd reaction match" in the main event, and a super fun battle royal. While I don't regret not going, I similarly wouldn't have regretted it if I had, it looked a really fantastic night for Australian wrestling in a growing market. (EPW apparently pre-sold over 1000 for Re-Awakening tonight as well.)

If you skip the repeat promo videos and intermission, you'll get this done in around 2 hours - go watch it.

I think given their background that's a story that needs a lot more than 24 hours to develop.

Slam at over 1600

Apparently they announced 1730 tonight!

Mate they didn't want to give her a clean win over Thorpe, a competitive win over Buddy isn't on the cards.

Is that how you think it came across? To me it came across as Rocky messing with Thorpe, it wasn't supposed to be Delta getting a cheap win over someone she couldn't otherwise beat.

I think you're right, it's just not particularly what I'd personally like to see. I'm not that into Slex at the moment, I'd prefer any of Dusk, Brooks, Tommy, even Delta or Jarvis winning the belt.

I experience that crowd every show though, I know I'm in the very small minority.

Btw DMDU current lineup

Where'd you find that? Did you go to Adrenaline the other night?

It's good that someone (other than PCW I guess) is providing some summer wrestling... just a shame it's DMDU, and it's Seaford. And imagine going to Adelaide to do a no ring show. WTF?

Also love that little tag line on "Foundry 2" - "If you hate DMDU you hate everything." Nah, I just hate being taken for a ride.

A year ago I would've been all over their version of the J-Cup, cos it would've been either in the city or at Yarraville, and it would've had a fun roster of talent.

Now? I fear a DMDU J-Cup can only expose their complete lack of roster depth and their abundance of skinny guys who don't go to the gym and don't (fake) tan. I'm not a "body guy" when it comes to wrestling - I'm the furthest thing from it, give me all the diversity in the world when it comes to size and shape.

That's just it though - I don't see DMDU being able to provide diversity among a junior division, I see them putting forth 8 skinny white guys who look pretty much the same. Which is made even worse when you consider that literally 80-90% of Australian wrestlers, including the very upper echelon, meet the junior weight limit anyway!

The DMDU J-Cup confirms (Not that it was really in doubt) that Bateman is still in charge of things over there. The guy is always knocking off the shit that he marks out for which we all know is ECW and Japanese wrestling.

See a company do something well overseas, copy the concept, give it a stupid name and put your untrained mates on the card wearing black kmart tees and repeat .... No wonder most good places are blacklisting people working these 'shows'.

One of my friends is running a J Cup in Feb in NJ

Jordan Oliver
Masha Slamovich
Alec Price
Man Like Dereiss
Jon Gresham
Mike Bailey
Billie Starkz

Along with Abe and Nomura (astronauts) who are possibly the best tag team in the world. A touch better than DMDUs I would suggest.
