Most of you already know this - but im just reminding some others who are perhaps a bit jaded.

Expect Phil to replace one of the openers.

I'll re-bump this thread when it happens :)

certainly earned it with first class performances.

Yeah, he has performed well both here in Australia an in county ranks with Northants/ Yorkshire.

Stupid comment about him being from Australia B, he has earned his spot if makes the test team on raw numbers not because he is from NSW.

Can't say that about some of the dudleys from NSW that have got the baggy green though can you ben?

its funny that he's about he most deserving yet folks are talking up other sprats ahead of him.

True, Dan.

Jacques is an expection to the rule. :D

he has earned his spot as an aussie opener as soon as they give it to him, he looked in good touch today against the redbacks, never looked like going out but unlucky he did.

Interesting to note that he has also been named in the same light as Chris Rogers from WA.

They would be a fair opening pair in my opinion.

P.A Jaques
C.J.L Rogers (New South Welshman by birth)

Hopefully the selectors select him as soon as spot opens up to him. He could still bat 3 , 4 or 5 in the australian team if he gets a gig. Get Technique.

Im on the badnwagon,
he wont get the opening postion for a while, but is certainly the next in line.
He could bat at 3,4,5 even 6
but i think Hodge, M.Hussey are the better options for those spots
but both of them are getting on bit.

M.Hussey was rated, by the players, as the best Australian cricketer outside of the Test team. Suggest he would get that opening spot first.

That said, I would be more than happy if Jaques got a crack.

I wouldn't might Mike Hussey in the middle order at test level, would add some stability and his fielding is exceptional.

Don't be so narrow-minded, I'm sure he'd take middle order if picked otherwise he could be 32 by the time an opening berth comes up. He's the sort of guy who can adapt his game. Greg Blewett played his best test cricket at no. 6 when he was opening for SA.
