There will be one less Western Bulldogs member in this household in 2015. My cat, Lily, has had enough. At the sound of the final siren, she grabbed her Western Bulldogs Pet Membership card in her mouth, sprinted to the microwave and nuked it. :(

This is her after the match. She was so ashamed.

And now this morning she asked if she could become a Richmond Pet Member for 2015. I told her that Richmond Pet Members are feral, just like Richmond human members.

The Western Bulldogs players and their coach have a lot to answer for!

Really? One thing he has done very well at so far is recruiting and list management o_O

But I am worried about Jones and Talia being disgruntled and wanting out. We can't afford to lose them

How is that, Howard one year too long, maybe Gia one year too long, boyd is playing again next year and he looks cooked already, Smith jury still out first round draft pick but cant f-ing kick for shit, Stevens similar, what about Fuller last year ?..

Other things I learned today:

- Devon Smith is a jerk (has nothing to do with the game or Igloo's more justified hatred of him :p)
- Don't sit in the bay in front of the toilets, it smells. Took me far too long to figure out that that was the problem.
- Going for 4 kicks of the footy throughout the day results in very sore calves and hammies. Sore face too, I was hit in the head twice.
- VitalDread loves a goal ;)
- I need a new phone.

These games are more of a learning experience than even McCartney would've anticipated.
i had a full leg cramp this morning

On reflecting upon the game all night I was very disappointed. I think as a team you learn more from a win than gaining a higher pick in drafts.
One thing the game has shown us is that recruiting battlers from other clubs rarely works. How Austin plays before Talia is mind boggling. Youngs first half was poor, his second half was much better but as a fan you tend to remember the first half.
Matthew Boyd, I have loved you as a doggy but your disposal and decision making is now atrocious. A decision needs to be made on him. One year deal only. Or go.
I am now in the camp of pushing hard for Frawley. I can see Talia and Frawley being good key defensive pillars and get Roughy into the forward line. For those pushing to trade Minson have a good look at yesterday's game. I thought he was superb, winning the majority of ruck contests. If people think Campbell and Cordy can takeover they are touched in the head.
On a positive note, Bonts second half, his long bomb and creative skills show why he is the future of the club. String showed what a beast he is going to be. I cannot imagine a more difficult matchup for other clubs in coming years.
Rat is a smart player and will forge a good career, he reminds me a lot of Blair and McGlynn.
Heads up, trade period and draft night are always fun. Let's trust our recruiting staff and kick forward next year.

Agreed. Where does this leave Boyd ???
To be honest, I really like what he brings - his good normally outweighs the bad - but we're handing the team over to the young kids. Macrae, Stringer, Bonti, Libba, Hrovat, Dahlhaus, Roughy - these guys are already the core of the team now (with Murphy & Morris vital in defence, Crammers vital in attack). Contested ball and winning it aren't our issues - we rank very low in the AFL for opposition scores from our turnovers, it kills us and Boyd is a culprit.

Next cab off the rank for the young core: Wallis. He plays his best football with Boyd out of the side. Gives us the flexibility of another forward/mid who is good by foot (Hunter, and next year Honeychurch).

It's a call as tough as Crossy, but Boyd may need to be either tapped on the shoulder or rested/subbed at times. He's no longer a 90% TOG lock in the best 22.

Clearly our skill level is, as it has been all year, deplorable. It cost us this game. Heart, endeavor, application is a massive tick.

We matched them in most areas, indeed we smashed them in most areas.
More disposals, more inside 50's.
Despite a small forward line we had double their marks inside 50.
We had 10 more scoring shots!

I thought we were going to win even when we got 30 points down, because I felt we were well in the game and we just needed more polish.

GWS are more skillful than us. Other than that we have them covered in most other areas.

Sure we have structural issues, we need a gun KP forward and another KP defender, but perhaps more than anything we need our skills to lift, that includes goal kicking. Now maybe we don't have the personnel with the skill set, that's another issue of course, but we can get better and in the off season we need a focus on it.

we sure know how to fk up a script.

really feel for gia that his last memories of playing AFL are his last 2 kicks going out of bounds on the full and then stringer trying to mark the ball with his face and missing the opportunity to take the lead, what a kick in the nuts.

Well, cats have 9 lives. Richmond are a good fit.

I still think letting go of Cross was a bad move. His experience and leadership would've come in handy more than once this year.

Completely disagree with your first point. We played like millionaires. Unwilling or unable to work hard. Showed them very little respect.

Yeah same problems but we were never going to fix them quickly by using the draft as our main method of list management, it was always going to take some time. We just have to get busy at the trade table and for me all of pick 5, 2nd R, 2nd R (compo), grant jones etc are all on the table just as starters.
Cut off the dead wood we have in our squad and fix several holes in our list. I'd be happy at draft time even if we only had a 3rd/4th etc and used it on Foster and Cordy, means that least we have fixed other holes on our list.

What I worry about is the inability to develop the talent we already have ... especially the KPP and forwards...

Really ??
Lower? Fuller? Dickson? No KPS
Keeping Howard
Running Minson into the ground by not helping him
I dare say it may be his strength but he still hasn't been great at this
We got Lower for free, he was delisted last year and besides Rohde would have traded a 2nd round pick for him. Howard I'll give you but remember McCartney would not have recruited him to begin with. Dickson was a good choice at pick 50 odd and has kicked goals in a team that has few natural forwards. Fuller was a miss, but at pick 42 not as critical when most of the gun players have gone. Who would you have taken? Minson - that's a selection issue, not recruiting as I've said selection has been baffling this year

How is that, Howard one year too long, maybe Gia one year too long, boyd is playing again next year and he looks cooked already, Smith jury still out first round draft pick but cant f-ing kick for shit, Stevens similar, what about Fuller last year?
I'm confident in Stevens and Boyd, less so Smith but only because of the double ACL injuries :(

Been a member for 15 years, this is the first time I haven't seen a win live - that hurts.
Didn't look to be a great deal of care out there today, pretty disappointing for Gia. List is in need of a big cleanout, today showed that pretty clearly.
But, you know, eternal optimism! It's a rough ride out west :p

Love the avator. I reckon he might be a doggies man.

Stats don't back that up though.
Which stats?
Kicks? We squared that (207-206) but what the stats don't show is that we chipped around a fair bit while GWS went direct and fast. What happened then won't show readily on the stats sheet either - they ran and delivered to space or advantage. Where were we?
Handballs? We won those handsomely but many of them were desperately avoiding pressure or just plain sloppy.
Tackles? They thrashed us in the tackles all day (47-63) and in pressure acts for nearly all the game.
I agree we won the clearances and CPs but we weren't effective with the possession gained because of three things (1) failure to spread and provide options (2) failure of delivery skills (3) pressure and organisation of GWS. Two of those suggest to me that GWS worked harder than us on a consistent basis.

I wasn't at the game and I know TV can give a very distorted view of what's going on but it certainly looked like we weren't putting in very hard in the first half. We did work hard after that but the horse had already bolted.

I am no great fan of Leon Cameron as a coach but it was an interesting little sideshow since Macca beat Cameron to the job at VUWO. Points on the day went to Cameron.

Combination too many older players lack of pace and having a fragile defence to easy to score against for starters.
I don't think we get much drive rebounding from defence Johannson struggles with his disposal.
I'd like to see Talia settle back in the side
Over summer we need a target big forward and perhaps a spare. Suppose we will see what happens

Wasn't that long ago we had Lake and Harbrow and Callan Ward down back

I think Easton Wood out is a big loss down there. He covers a lot of ground fast and puts his body in courageously.
Above all, we lost it down back when they kicked too many fast uncontested goals.

How much can be put down to Minson's poor year do you think?

Anyway, there's a plethora of talented young players on your list, and this is something we lack to some extent. Obviously the coach gets another year to get the list really competitive.

Will was third best for hit outs in the league.

I wish we knew how to deliver a ball inside 50.
For the entire game - GWS opened up their forward line and had quick blokes running back with it. That's how Hoskin-Elliot kicked 5
For the entire game we bombed it in high and long - genius.
That's tactical. You can't tell me that's anything but tactical and the way that they're coached.

Our defenders were opened up and isolated. Our forwards were swamped, congested and under pressure.
Leon set up like the Doggies used to when he was a player.

If you read my original post you will see what stats I am talking about.....

Despite a small forward line we had double their marks inside 50.
We had 10 more scoring shots!

We had periods in the game where we dropped off.....agree, but on balance we put in and I don't agree they out worked us, they out out skilled us. We didn't execute well enough.
