Next year i believe will be our back lines year, the recruiting that has been done has ensured we have enough kpp to make sure anyone in the side is performing and anyone outside the senior team is busting there gut to get in. I like the idea of recruiting Hay, as our Full Back position has been a weak link in our team since the days of might micky martyn. Out of the following players how do you believe will be our starting back 6 in 2006?

Trotter, J Smith, J Sinclair, Pratt, Green, Hay, Brown, Watt, Rawlings, Firrito, Archer, Gibson, Makepeace, Perry , Powell, Schwarze, Sansbury, Urch.

Mine is as follows

B: Urch Hay Pratt
HB: Sinclair Brown Powell

This back 6 gives us speed in urch and sinclair, height in brown and hay and the toughness and courage of Pratt and Powell. Makepeace would be in my back six but most teams dont have a small foward they are more of medium fowards which out mark and out jostle makey. Trotter, Smith, Green could push for HBF postion and so could Rawlings, Perry and Watt for the KPP's. Firrito should only be used down back if we are getting murdered because he should be let into the midfield next year to play his own game. Sansbury doesnt look like a backmen and havent seen enough of Schwarze to comment on same as Gibson. Archer is probably the only one now on our list that plays the loose man in defence role perfectly as we no longer have Colby.

There my thoughts, feel free to comment.

Personally I think it will be different to what you have selected.

- Hay deserves FB, and that is where he should be. Despite what some believe, Watt is our best option by far at CHB and that is reward for being our best KP defender this year. CHF are becoming more mobile and Brown just doesn't have the pace to cope. Watt showed this year that he has improved his strength contests and hopefully continues his upward climb;

- I have a gut feeling Brown is being groomed for either a forward role or a floater role, similar to 03/04. That is why I think either Perry or Powell would be tried out pre season for that position, as the 3rd tall. However, he still seems most likely;

- Sinclair is not exactly quick and Makepeace is more likely to beat a man at a marking contest so he stays. Urch takes the traditional Sinclair role as he has a better and longer kick on him plus is better in the air and more aggressive;

- Green is added and his position is new as we really haven't had a tall medium sized defender recently. JWS is breathing down his neck (although again I get the feeling he may be groomed for a wing role for this year) while Pratt could challenge although he is slow and seems to lack the poise at times;

So mine is:

Makepeace Hay Green
Urch Watt Perry/Brown

There are many players that can be filtered through the flanks and I think that is why Trotter was tried forward last year and JWS will be groomed for a role further up the ground.

This team is still 1 quick running defender short but I don't see too many options in our current list.

hmm mine would be:

Makey - Hay - Green
Sinclair - Watt - Firrito

don't think Powell will get many games next season Urch Crunch.

My backline would look as follows:

B Green Hay Makepeace
HB Smith Brown JRawlings

Meaning the rest of the team would look as follows:
C Wells Harris McConnell
HF Grant Thompson CoJones
F Archer Rocca Trotter
R Hale Simpson Harvey
Int BRawlings Firitto Petrie Grima

Players like Watt and Sinclair miss out on my 22

I am happy with our recruiting this year going by the amount I have put in the above team. The 2006 team is going to look pretty different to the 2005 model.

Urch Hay Sinclair
Green Watt/JRawlings/Smith

Think Makey might make the move to the midfield. Rawlings potentially filling the Colbert role in defence.

Trotter Hay Perry
Simpson Watt Sinclair

A bit slow and perhaps a bit of a gamble with two kids filling two spots - that's why I reckon Simmo should go back there. I also reckon Trots can handle it and for Perry, well, "It's Time!".

green- hay- makey
rawlings- brown- sinclair

i think mines the best so far and it also makes sense in who we drafted and why

suprising to see nobody has firrito at a half back or something. I believe he is way better than Kasey Green and will play down back rather than in the middle or on a wing.

nice to see people having, Rawlings, Green, Smith/Trotter/Urch in the backline. But how often do we see side make wholesale changes to a backline like that? Rawlings will struggle for games, same with Green i'd reckon, just that all this pre-season of pumping him up makes him sound like a walk in starter or something. Smith, Trotter, urch won't be regulars even if we want this to happen. The back half will look similar to last yrs although with the exception of Hay and mayb Green at some times, but he won't be a regular.

If too many new players start for us this will unsettle our backline rather than help it.

i'm stickin with:

Makey - Hay - Green/Pratt
Sinc - Watt - Firrito

green will be better then pratt, pratt turns it over to much and makes stupids decisions. i think green will play 22 games this year easy and rawlings will play at least 15

This is a really tough one. Hay slots into full back and the rest is a raffle IMO.

Despite playing well on several occasions last year Watt did not finish top 10 in our B&F so, as I see it, he does not have dibs on CHB. I note that many posters have Browny there but he didn't finish top 10 either. Of course one of these two might have finished close to top 10 and this might help decide who gets CHB but for me it's up for grabs. Perry, if he has a good pre-season might even grab the spot.

It's interesting to note that apart from Colby and Arch (who also played a fair bit on the wing) none of regular defenders made it to the top 10 in the B & F.

Where Arch plays depends on what DL's plans are. He can still play well on the flank or out of the back pocket, but he might be used upfield. I like at half back with occasional ventures into the middle for "impact".

My guess for a drastically different back 6 in 2006, FWIW, is:

Trotter Hay Perry
Archer Watt Green

I could have gone with Sinclair, Makepeace, McConnell, ahead of Green but I don't know much about McConnell and I suspect that the other two might be asked to fight for a spot in the midfield/wings or as a defensive forward (the old Micky Stevens role).
