Ben Cousins to auction off his 2006 Premiership Jumper for charity

They even manage to find fault in him giving away a jumper for charity. Even if it is partially for his own benefit (image, doco, or whatever), it is to a charity that would be close to his heart (drug rehab), one which is important and will benefit nicely from it. So, who bloody cares??

Almost everyone that does something for charity does it for not entirely altruistic reasons, but will have an element of self interest. Maybe they do it for the kudos. Maybe they do it to seem rich to those in high society. Maybe they do it because they have been slowly ripping millions of dollars off Australians through inflated packaging prices and feel bad about it. Everyone does charity work for their own benefit in some way.

A charity close to his heart is it ?...wtf ..spare us the bullshit and stick to what he showed us and proved...dont make silly assumptions u cannot back up. He showed u something 20 times so dont assume its the opposite.

Just as likely to be the last thing he gives a shit about...never had an ounce of interest in supporting our drug rehab centres before. You saw that but you are choosing to ignore what u saw and assume the opposite...thats pretty bloody naive isnt it.

On one hand u pretend to understand why they do these charity things... but on the other you pretend to understand it may just be a cynical excercise.

Basically the junk u typed simply agrees with what was said...but all u've typed is that you DONT WANT TO agree...weagle fans must be the most needy on the planet to call that bloke their hero.

I just don't give a shit as much as you seem to. He's doing something for charity. I don't pretend to know the reasons like you do. I don't really care. He is doing something for charity. As far as I am concerned, end of story.

Anyway, did you even read what I was saying? It is all self interest. That is why most people do charity things, that was my point. So, if we take your cynical view that it is for his image or for publicity or whatever your line is, that is just another self interest reason. Like it is with most other people that do things for charity. It is still good they are doing something for charity though. Better than the jack shit most do for charity.

I don't call him my hero anyway. I think he is a bloody good player who won us a premiership. I don't care what he did off the field like you seem to. Or maybe it is more you care that he won us a premiership at your expense. I don't really care, but it is no surprise to see you in a Cousins thread, that is for sure.

ROFL. So you think they only had one jumper each for that game, what would have happened if one got ripped off in the first quarter?

Tarnsihing what image? :eek::D

HA HA, I love how gullible you West Aussies are & how you believe everything that comes out of Benny's mouth. I still remember how you all defended him when he abandoned his car & his girlfriend & swam across the Swan to avoid the Police. :D

Mantis you really are a world class idiot, riddle me this:

If every player who has played in a grand final has multiple jumpers lying at home from the day as you are implying, why aren't more players cashing in on this and donating/selling them? Surely other players by now would have looked at their jumpers at home and thought hey, maybe I can cash in on these as I don't need this many? Strange how not that many have?

Wait a sec, do you think maybe that's because they DON'T have multiples lying around? Why do you think Adam Hunter was devastated when someone stole his jumper? Maybe it's becacuse they don't have multiples?

But wait right, it's all a conspiracy where the Eagles gave Ben Cousins and only Ben Cousins multiple jumpers so hence he can afford to donate his excess jumpers and look good for this documentary that's coming up right?

As much as you are loathe to admit it due to your personal hatred for the guy, he has started slowly rebuilding his image this year by keeping out of trouble, and doing what he does best by playing good football. So by donating fake stuff to charity he would ruin the credibility (albeit the small amount) he's regained this season.

But I can't complain really, when you left WA for Victoria you raised the average IQ in both places :)

Haha, who would have thought we would see appearances by Mantis and Bollox in a thread on Ben Cousins. Some things never cease to astound. I am literally floored.

yea good post.

I noticed the guy that donated $85k to the brain injured little boy that they reckon Kyle and Jackie O screwed over (I don't agree with that thought) did this very generous act in front of one of his planes for Strategic Airlines with the name "strategically" positioned right in the background.

I've got no issue with it but if he was just doing it for the kid he wouldn't have his plane in the background.

Jump up and down about that Mantis!

Lol. Yes, we have the certificate of authenticity right here with us.

What is your actual point? Do you have absolutely anything to back it up, at all, or do you just enjoy criticising?

So because none of us posters have any proof the jumper is legit, and you have no proof the jumper isn't legit, it most likely isn't?

Are you really that stupid? I'm guessing yes.

Well she does believe that the 1969 moon landing was staged, as afterall they never went back...

And here I was thinking that Apollo 14, 15, 16 and 17 must have been some kind of poor direct to DVD sequals to Apollo 13

WTF????

surely there isn't anyone stupid enough that still believes that rubbish these days?

Some teams change jumpers at half time – Port Adelaide did in 2004. I’m pretty sure the Eagles only wore one jumper for the whole game. You can tell this because Beau Waters was wearing a 2005 guernsey for the whole 2006 Grand Final (we had different numbers in 06, different font, bigger white outline). If he’d changed at half time he would have been wearing a 2006 number 8.

Ben’s jumper, the Grand Final patch got partially destroyed. You can see it when he’s holding up the cup. Just check the guernsey for auction against the pictures of it on the dias. The destroyed Grand Final patches should match. Easy.
Although, for arguments sake, if they did change at half time, and you get the first half jumper – would that even be a problem? Still match worn Grand Final jumper innit?

Completely laughable that someone would offer up a standard jumper as Grand Final match worn, but then mantis is trolling pretty hard.

Just the fact that I even have to address this issue is ridiculous.

Interestingly, it was reported in an article recently that it was only in the last couple of months that Ben has finally intimated to those around him that he can see a future completely drug-free. It's meant to be a big step forward.

Now that he's doing this, I wouldn't be surprised if Ben is really starting to get on top of his addiction and step out of the tunnel, into the light. He'll always have to work to stay this way, but this is the first time he can see himself living a clean life in the long-term.

How anybody can look down on him in this thread is beyond me.

If you condemn the depths to which he fell, you must admire the great climb he has taken merely to get back to a standard level. It's much harder to climb that it is to fall.

Everyone should be able to recognise and respect his journey back to normallity, regardless of their views on his history.

Know him well do you?

You have to laugh at idiots who think they know someone they have never met.

I thought the joke was on the people who had met him and still thought they knew him pretty well.

Has anyone got any proof that the jumper he is auctioning is the one he wore in the GF? After all, he is the only one who knows, gullible people abound in this day & age.

I bet the Doco comes out about a month after the auction. :D

What does it matter about the jumper anyway? Who says it means anything to Benny any more since west coast basically dumped him? He may have been using it to clean his windows for all we know.

Definitely smacks of publicity for the documentary. I'd like to know how much money people are going to be making out of it and whether those proceeds are going to charity, especially considering that its almost a proceeds from crime scenario.

He achieved the same thing by going to Richmond, so you shouldn't hold it against him.

Very nice work. :thumbsu:

Maybe his Grand Final patch was laced with acid and he was dropping hits during the game.

Because jumpers are the property of clubs, not the players.

Hypothetically, if the competing club got players to change jumpers each quarter, they would probably commercialise three of them and let the player keep one for himself.

When's his Doco due for release? Seems no one wants to answer that question.

Why didn't he donate 10 or 20K anonymously if he is such a good guy? As that's all his jumper is likely to fetch.

I believe Ben only thinks about what affects him, this is a publicity stunt for his Doco.

So what do you think of Kevin Sheedy then? As both Ben and Sheedy are appearing at the luncheon when the auction takes place. I bet it was under the advise of Sheedy that he is doing this. Since you live in Melb you should read the papers more then you would know that Ricky Nixon has handed the doco over to Michael Gudinski. Not finished yet! You seem very bitter. Hatred makes you ugly or maybe uglier!
