That's a disgrace, it should have been a handover plan, with Henderson assistant in 23 and coach in 24. You can't just let the other coach crawl through shit for 2 years and give him the flick

Couldn’t agree more Trent. And we wonder why perennially struggling clubs never seem to have consistent success. They ‘eat their own’ and often make decisions based on the noisy minority that have just been around the same club their entire lifetime and have no idea how a football club operates and what is needed for ongoing success.

When things go awry, they head for the hills and disappear into oblivion. Why people fall for this charade god knows….

Sounds like there was a fair bit more to it behind the scenes that prompted the decision not to go again with the former coach. Very different picture than what it seems to all of us from the outside.

Well they've done a great job the last decade haven't they? Where would they be if this last coach hadn't put his hand out to help? In 2019 they were the worst major league football side I've ever seen

Gee whiz, I'd think he's not into the same church as the Essendon ceo. They actually made him reapply, why not just say thanks for your 2 years but here's the problem and we're going this way. It was ok to appoint him when no one else would take the job, and they showed a bit of improvement last year, they've handled it terribly

They didn't make him reapply, his term had finished and they chose to advertise the position. Whether or not he reapplies is up to him but from what I've heard there was pretty substantial reasons why they went that way. I'm not in position to know about stuff behind the scenes but some of the issues were obvious to anyone watching them play last year.

That's not how well run clubs are operated, it's open dialogue throughout the year. He was obviously keen to do it again, why wasn't this conveyed through the year. How many good coaching positions come about by advertising? They already had a coach in waiting, by opening it up. Who else was going to apply?

Advertise isn't the right word, open it up to other interested parties is a better way to put it, don't think it has actually been advertised.

It's not for me to speak for them but from what I've heard there were a lot of issues that have been repeatedly raised and not just by the club, and there hasn't been any willingness to address them. Ultimately they seem to have differences in standards that the club isn't prepared to accept.

As an outsider observing it seems to me like they have done exactly the right thing. The current committee have righted a lot of issues that were created by their recent predecessors and seem to have a good, clear vision of where they are heading. I think they are right to insist everyone be on the same page.
