Roota any background on Strath picking up 3-4 Kyneton under 18s in the past two weeks. Would be 16 points alone next year if they are planning on transitioning to the seniors

Or have they all been promised an AFL dream if the play in BFL instead of RDFL
Nope they definitely are no

No idea to be honest. I have no involvement at the club this year other than a couple of young blokes in the juniors.

Strath 18’s have struggled for numbers this season so any extra players would be appreciated I’d imagine

They’d be far better off playing rdfl and being noticed by the cannons - I’d say it’s like what happened at the Maine - parents lead change because didn’t get their way. Better off without them

Reckons there's a bit more going on in the bfl rather than a few kyneton boys having a crwck at playing at a higher level of footy

I honestly have no idea.

The RDFL has been a very productive region for AFL draftees in recent years though as you say

Just interesting they went to Strath instead of Castlemaine or Sunbury Lions if it was just about testing themselves.

Just had a look at the names - All it would have taken one message from a Strath Official letting the parents know they think there son is a chance of playing AFL if they come to Strath and the parents would have had them on the first vline to Strath.

Smart Tatics by Strath -but again parents getting sucked in thinking there kids the next Harley Reid. Not one of them would be close to getting a game in Straths seniors in the next 4 years unless they have 20 walk out over Preseason

What do you want him to do?

Send him and email or something. I’m sure his details are accessible
Yeah you’re right, country footy is flying. He should just sit on his haunches, collect his weekly pay cheque and remain invisible.
Or just pop his head up and say “there are to many teams, everyone should just merge” and that should fix things.

I don’t even know the names of the kids but I know the under 18’s coach and I can assure you he is not promising anything other than a chance to play footy each week

It would be a start rather than just whinging and bitching and asking others to save them

If you google him he hasn’t said one thing in the media since he was appointed ! I guess all is well so why say anything when country footy is flying

He was speaking about football generally.

In this league, no.
In some leagues or regions, clubs need to look to the future instead of ignoring it and ending up extinct.

Kudos to NCFL clubs Wycheproof-Narraport and Nullawil - an example of clubs looking to the future and realising it would be better heading in a united direction as the Calder United Lions instead. Hope they do well.

Well if Maryborough and the district clubs had have listened many years ago I’m sure they’d be more viable than they are presently…that’s just a very basic example
What makes you think the better players in the Maryborough region would have all bought in and played at a merged club in the Bendigo league. They wouldn’t have is the answer, otherwise they’d be playing there now.

They don’t have to, but what it does do is limit the amount of choice, limit the competition for attracting players and just as importantly limits the spread of volunteers required to make clubs tick. It may not be a quick fix but over time having less clubs in that town would be a good thing.

Look at Kerang, look at Sea Lake, look at Ouyen United, look at Southern Mallee Thunder

I can't believe that the AFL hasn't employed you to save country footy.

Focus needs to be put on people up the chain. Rob Auld (Travis Auld brother) was planted at afl by his brother to run game development and is failing badly. Laura Kane (Head of football) has absolutely no idea how bad country football is and wouldn’t know where to start trying to fix it. And surprise surprise Greg MADIGAN, used to work with Rob Auld in a previous role !

It’s rotten to the core

Nice to see our boys get a good win yesterday but really feel for Maryborough.

Was a hard game to watch and as people who actually understand the struggle they face we can only admire them for boxing on.

On the K Flat situation I’m told both club and league have chatted and would both welcome the move in principle but have no expectation it would be permitted by the AFL.

Essentially what we are seeing is the growing rumbling from clubs to demand better. This is basically an up yours to the hierarchy, an open show of dissent with the lack of direction.

We’ve seen Castlemaine go public and call for change, Gisborne will leave, now Flat have stepped up.

I wonder if we will see any of the big Bendigo clubs join the chorus?

I don’t see sandhurst / square or strath filing a complaint. You don’t cut off the arm that feeds you
