Berko Bevo vs. the former Muckraker Morris in the Round 1 presser

Was Bevo right in the way he ran the presser

  • Hell yes! Bring back the Biff, Bevo.

  • Yes, but he went a little too far

  • No, but protecting players is key

  • No, totally unacceptable but that is it, move on

  • No, totally unacceptable and needs a sanction

  • I barrack for another club and just want to see the results

  • I am in the media and need my next news story

Standing up to bullies is exactly what leaders do. Bevo sent a strong message that we rarely see in society. If you are going to be unethical and attempt to profit from others suffering you are going to be publicly called on it.

The only thing he missed the mark on was his ability to control his emotions. If he had delivered the exact same message in a calmer tone he nails it.

He’s apologized for letting his passion get the best of him, which is fair.
It’ll be interesting to see how the media treat the Dogs and Bevo over the coming weeks. Do they hold a grudge and seek to continue to gain reactions out of Bevo and try to destabilise the club? Or do they get the message and try to improve their respect and accountability outside of their bubble? Unfortunately I expect the first option which is the source of Bevo’s angst.

Assuming that rival journos (in private) are not secretly happy TM has gone and a competitor is out the door...the same goes for ambitious ladder climbers at Fox.
I dare say a lot of the collegiality in the last 18 hours or so of Tom Morris' career was just for show.

The Caro carry on is much worse the Bevo's tirade. Ok he overstepped the mark against someone who has proven since to have a gutter mouth. I hear not confirmed that Bevo has some personal issues he is currently dealing with that maybe affecting his demeanor but not his coaching credentials. Did Caro even bother do check this before basically questioning his ability to lead men. No all she wanted to do was to try and turn this into a bigger issue that it was and support another low life journo.
The Caro rant was absurd. These sports journalists do not know their place in the game. They are not celebrities in their own right and if we weren’t so interested in the footy we would not know who they are. They are not the players and they are not the umpires, and they are all replaceable.

It’s fair to say Bevo shouldn’t have done what he did, but to challenge his job and push for a $100,000 fine is laughable.

Saw on Offsiders segment and Caro kept trying to lay the boots into Bevo and no one else was having it. Kelli Underwood brought up Bevo always going in to bat for his players over mental health and specifically mentioned Barrett and Tom Boyd. Then the other panelists wanted to focus on AFL coaches not understanding journalism and questions they get asked in pressers (fair enough). Caro tried to back track her comments about "Bevo needing help" not referring to his mental health but more help he needs around the footy club for how he operates. What a muppet.

I like the fact Caro can be tenacious and not deterred by the boys’ club (ie the Essendon saga), but she’s not amazing at reading the room and admitting she’s been ridiculous.

Her obsession with the Crows camp long after anyone else cares got her employer sued.

Honestly given Morris has outed himself as a total bellend I think it’s best for everyone to move on. Caro doesn’t get it.

Caro doesn’t get it.
She lost any objectivity a long time ago. (Never had any to start with where Richmond are concerned, but that seemed isolated earlier in her career.) Newman is an anachronistic dinosaur, and his and McGuire's comments about her were abhorrent at the time. But Wilson has lost perspective herself, and for years has focussed on what she thinks is the 'politics' and 'business' of football, but is actually gossip and innuendo.

Emma Quayle, Kelli Underwood, Emma Race, Sam Lane and others have had a more hands on feel for the game, particularly on-field, then there is Daisy Pearce who has now actually played the game, and other current and retired AFLW players who are transitioning into commentary of both the women's and men's games.

Wilson may have been a pioneer of women in football, but she tarnishes her legacy every time she opens her mouth these days. She's now part of the media "look at me, look at me, I've got something controversial to say - or at least I hope I have" club.

“I think Caroline Wilson needs to look at whether she is equipped to write and pontificate.

What we saw last week is a woman unravelling.

I’m quite serious about this.

Who invokes the mental health and wellbeing card against a coach's ability to coach over a few comments in a press conference?

I have never seen anything so disgraceful in all my years covering football.

It is a woman who is clearly not coping.

I urge coaches to boycott Wilson's interviews, if the situation isn’t suitably addressed.

She doesn’t have a right to perform in public, if that’s what she is going to do.

The Age and 3AW need to step up and do something here."

Interesting when you take the verbatim quotes and switch them around, isn't it? Parasite.

She's gone full Trump. Her original comments were specifically questioning his mental health, and ability to coach young men.

I refuse to watch any clips of her on tv and I never listen to AW anyway, just got the quotes from an online article. No integrity, none. And I'm not even going to bother commenting on the other chumps in the media like G.Lyon, T.Jones, etc, who have the analytical skills of a dead gnat.

Not angry at your post - angry at that New Idea piece writer Caro.

Should our sympathies now veer towards Morris ?
Not in the slightest. I think you are letting the fact that Morris is a Melbourne Grammar boy, NewsCorp employee and a Trump supporter cloud your judgement (a model citizen in your eyes D Mitchell?).

Fear not though D Mitchell, I am sure that the ‘old boys club’ cronyism will look after him and he will be tossed in front of us again soon enough. Maybe Sky after dark mid year? No doubt Tom will be back in front of us this time next year - bookmark it.

They will make snide remarks and dig the boots in at every opportunity. The only way to shut them up will be to win games and even that will be a temporary reprieve.

I firmly believe we will cop it for years from this and I’m quite ok with that. Viva la Bevolution.

Let Morris deal with his demons, Bev blew it, leaders don't do that. Bev's the loser here.
His conduct could not be more befitting as a leader. Androids and robots aren't coaching AFL teams yet so they also display human tendencies. What matters is the maturity and reflecting of the response, and the win is the learnings obtained.

Don't forget that this man himself is also testing the waters, as the person who will lead us from the helm as we embark on a journey like we have never seen. We as an organisation are going to be in the limelight for many years. Let him flex both his brain and arm muscles (figuratively speaking) as he leads us from the front. He's ready and deserving of this opportunity.

Back him.

Taken from a HScum opinion piece

Susie O’Brien: Tom Morris’s comments show respect for gay women has a long way to go

I couldn't resist posting this part which gave me instant schadenfreude:

"Morris went to Melbourne Grammar, and in an article on the school’s website from 2018, said he “continues to draw on values and experiences gained during his time at Melbourne Grammar School”. (Wait for that one to be quietly pulled from the web.)

Morris also said he loves sport because there’s “nowhere to hide”.

“What you see on the sporting field is how a person is,” he’s quoted as saying in the school article. I think the same is true of someone’s private communication. What you say on WhatsApp in an unguarded remark is who you really are.

It’s how a person is, to use Morris’s words."

His conduct could not be more befitting as a leader. ...
Real leaders don't come out with childish lines like "you barrack for Melbourne" and "you're preying on us" then have to back down and apologise. That's a tantrum, not leadership.

The funny thing is that Caro is on live tv now speculating about Dew's job.

Buuuuttt Beveridge is the horrible person.

Gold Coast won on the weekend like they had too. Never good enough for them.

The best part about this is all the posters from other clubs who clearly just wanted to throw stones, are disappointed that it ended in two days.

The media are the ones that drive the narrative & they shut it down quickly once the spotlight turned on them.

I'm still pissed Caro hasn't been taken to task by any mental health spokespeople for her negative connotations.

Note to Wilson: people can lose their shite & be angry without being 'crazy' and people can have mental health issues without it even showing - get informed before you open your big lispy gob.
