With the wings, Masten played the defensive wing allowing Gaff to play more the attacking wing. I’d like to see Duggan on the Masten wing. His time in Defense has been good and he has the endurance and composure to play outside mid.

The 6 full time defenders
Talls - Gov Barrass
Locks - Sheppard Hurn Jetta
1 of - Jackson Rotham Cole depending form and opposition match up

6 full time forwards
Talls -JK Darling Allen
Locks - Cripps Ryan
1 of - Cameron Petrucelle Waterman Brander Venables

Mids
2 Ruck - NicNat and preferably Williams
4 Balanced Mids- Shuey Yeo Kelly Redden
2 Outside mids - Gaff Duggan

That leaves 2 floaters and as Bond has clarified, Simmo likes players who can play multiple role
2 floaters
Sheed and Jackson
A midfielder who can also play forward and a defender who can also tag

FB Hurn Barrass Sheppard
HB Jetta McGovern Rotham
C Gaff Yeo Duggan
HF Cripps Darling Cameron
FF Ryan JK Allen
Foll NicNat Shuey Kelly
Int Redden Williams Jackson Sheed

Depth
Ruck - Hickey
Defender - Cole Schofield
Forward - Petruccelle Waterman Brander Venables
Mid - Hutchings Ah Chee

We usually see at least 1 or 2 jump up to crack into the best 22. My thoughts are Williams and Rotham but would also like to see Brander.

Looking at the line up, my 8 depth players are as strong a line up as I have seen for a long time

I like the Duggan role change or we could possibly free up Jetta to play that Masten role ..

I think that Jetts is one of our most important players and his kicking from defence one of our greatest weapons. He should keep doing exactly what he has been doing IMO.

This. Jetta is 31 now. Even Simmo said once 'the game had passed him by' and required a rethinking of how we utilise his skillset. It is no surprise to me that we went from a 12 win team a year in 2017 to a 16 win team a year coinciding with Jetta moving back to HB in 2018(among other things as well to be fair).

Keeping him as the link between half back and forward half of the ground is really important to our success in my opinion. Also, that is probably a role that he could continue to play for another 2-3 years. Elite field kicking isn't a quality the deteriorates with age.

Where do we see Brander fitting in. Would like to see him make a case for a regular spot in the team. To have him and Oallen in there I think would have massive flexibility upside in a game. I know he had some midfield minutes in the wafl this year. He do any good? To have two extra players in your team that can play KPF and KPB along with some possible midfield minutes in mid role and or ruck role just means you have a lot of bases covered if there was an injury. Thoughts?

Duggan would be better at the Masten role. He is smart, works hard, is selfless and doesn't hesitate backing into oncoming traffic.

You want Jetta weaving and kicking through half back setting up counter attacks, not guarding space as a defensive wing man.

FB Josh Rotham Tom Barrass Brad Sheppard
HB Shannon Hurn Jeremy McGovern Lewis Jetta
C Andrew Gaff Jack Redden Elliot Yeo
HF Jamie Cripps Jack Darling Jarrod Brander
FF Jake Waterman Josh J. Kennedy Liam Ryan
FOL Nic Naitanui Luke Shuey Tim Kelly
I/C Oscar Allen Liam Duggan Dom Sheed Jarrod Cameron

Now we have Tim Kelly, I think we should get rid of the tagging role (which would see Hutchings out of the team).

That starting forward line is way too tall and one dimensional, no crumbing defensive forwards!

FB Shannon Hurn Tom Barrass Brad Sheppard
HB Jackson Nelson Jeremy McGovern Lewis Jetta
C Andrew Gaff Elliot Yeo Jarrod Brander
HF Jamie Cripps Jack Darling Dom Sheed
FF Jarrod Cameron Josh J. Kennedy Liam Ryan
FOL Nic Naitanui Luke Shuey Tim Kelly
I/C Oscar Allen or Baily Williams, Liam Duggan, Jack Redden, Jake Waterman

Emg / Depth: Oscar Allen or Baily Williams, Josh Rotham, Hickey, Hutchings, Cole, Petrucelle, Schofield, Watson, Ah chee, Vardy

That is some serious depth there!!

There's another premiership team or two in there...!?

Seriously leaving out our most recent rising star in Jack Petruccelle!!!!! I would have him ahead of Cameron.

I suspect Oscar Allen will be a slow starter and Bailey Williams is a much better fit as KPF who can spend more time against real rucks. I am thinking JK may not play as many away games so thinking Oscar will have his role simplified as KPF only. Whether he plays as much this year is not so important for me. I would rather see him at WAFL perfecting CHF and be ready come season's end to replace JK.

The rest looks pretty good to where I am at but there will be someone new worth including - there usually is each year.

So considering the team named for the Marsh community series and including players playing SOO and short term injury list our B22 probably looks like. Also assuming those named on the ground are ahead of those on the bench.

I see Cameron as the replacement for Rioli IF a replacement like for like is real.

I like Petruccelle for the change of of pace. Can he make it into the midfield, can he grab the wing spot?

Lets hope we have a better idea this time next week. Remember its only a bloody scratch match, the first one.

Agree with you on Jetta but not so sure about Duggan. Yes Duggan does the things you mentioned but I have never seen a player kick the ball into the man on the mark as often as he does and with such regularity. Add to that ignoring his first option and not dishing it off and trying to take on a player to invariably getting caught is just so frustrating. He has been around way long enough and has no excuse for the same things to keep happening. Such a shame as I think he could be a far superior player if he did the basic stuff well instead of trying to be something he is not.

If Brander plays wing how does Pay to get a game?

He isn't a small crumbling forward and isn't a big tackler either.

If Petri comes in for Cameron who crumbs?

Interesting Cameron isn't playing tonight. Managed?

Wow. You sound like you are describing Masten there.

I don't recall Duggan being that bad......I will pay more attention

Mate I really think he could be a far more valuable asset but his decision making is poor at times. At the highest level he has really stood out to me as a bloke who does not push back far enough to take his kicks and kicks in to the man on the mark, I will say he was better at it last year though so hopefully it was just inexperience?

I do recall him butchering a few kicks every game but not so much kicking into the man on the mark.

His strength is his overhead marking and courage.

very exciting times for West Coast, so much potential if they can stay healthy.

I still believe that one of the key the reason we won in 2018 was because several of our key players had extended injury lay offs around the bye rounds. Shuey and Darling had a good spell to freshen up, I think Yep copped a suspension. Kennedy missed the start of the season. And there were others.

It helped share the load and we hit finals with 'petrol in the tank'.
