With Walla out indefinitely:

Kelly - Stewart - Heppell
Ridley - Laverde - Hind
Langford - McGrath - Cox
Perkins - Jones - Caldwell
Snelling - Wright - Francis
Draper - Parish - Shiel
Merrett - Stringer - Smith - Redman
Guelfi

Now Tippa is out, it's pretty unlikely we start without a pacy small forward. Either Hind swaps forward or Lord starts IMO.

Like the strength from Lord here to power through in the Kelly tackle attempt. Might be further developed physically than the eyes suggest.

We shouldn’t move Hind so I’d say there is a bit of a watch on Lord in the praccys.

**Jones, Cox and Walla are currently injured, and none played in the 2021 EF anyway, but once they're well again we will have a log jam. Guelfi, Durham and Perkins probably the most vulnerable.

Hurley wont make round 1? Seems to be moving well 40 days out. No chance?

Kelly/Hurley - G.Rohan
Lav - Hawkins
J.Stewart - Jezza

Great time to get the cats. Miers, Menegola, J.Henry, Ceglar are battling and probably most unlikely for round 1

We should be going in favs with Tippa (Not holding hope)

Jogging vs. Match fitness = no Hurley IMO

Think Hurley plays forward if he plays at all.

With Reid battling i wouldnt mind him back as depth but you could be right

BZT dear in a headlights with ball in hand and Mcbride or the irishman doesnt look upto it just yet
Hurley is just as bad ball in hand these days. Takes way too long and tries to bite off too much. At least bzt knows his limitations and either hands it off or goes long down the line.

I actually thought BZT improved last year. His ANZAC Day game was solid.

I agree

At times last year he showed what a natural defender can do better an athlete like Stewart.

The knock on BZT for me hasn't been about rebound. Yes he is a one dimensional stopper, but you can carry one of those, even in this day & age. FWIW Stewart doesn't offer a heap in terms of rebound either. The issue with BZT is he has been athletically unable to compete with the hulks he needs to stop - most have had him covered for speed, agility, strength & reach.

He looks mature now in terms of strength and I believe he has been working on his speed. I do still have hope he can get to a position athletically where he is an effective part of our team. Probably not first 22 if all are fit - but an effective fringe player who won't let you down.

Agreed. I think BZT can be a decent fringe player. What I noticed last year is that, while he may not have always reacted quickly, he had worked on ensuring his disposal was effective. I wouldn't even say rebound as mostly he would decide to switch and let Ridley or Hind or Heppell move the ball forward. He also doesn't shirk an attempt to mark if it's there. Hopefully his improved size and strength work well for him when he gets the call-up this year.

Not sure where Hurls sits, but I reckon the order of preference would be Stewart, [Francis?], BZT, McBride. Hurley wouldn't be given a hulk these days and I doubt Francis would either.

Walla's on indefinite leave away from the club so Dev will surely play.

Redman has started kicking goals from 50m out, takes his marks, has a laser boot and, importantly, sticks his tackles. There is no way Durham challenges Redders yet, though he may be his understudy. He has a nice kick and holds his width.

I see Stringer now as a bull mid who can go forward. When he goes to CBs, we start winning them more. I'd like to see a return to the three tall forwardline we had with Hooker, Daniher and Stewart in 2017; Wright, Jones and Baldwin clunking marks from Stringer, Merrett and Parish. In any case, if Jones's ankle is still troublesome by R1, we might see Baldwin anyway.

I think Hobbs and Caldwell will play. We should see Parish's possession numbers flatten a bit over time as those two become more consistent ball users, but that will be good for the team.
Stringer is not a midfielder. He is a good centre clearance player when he can use his power but the fact is he is a forward who can play a role at centre bounces and the push forward. He is not someone who can continue the midfield role for any length of time.

I just mean that's where I see that he has more impact. When he starts in the middle he's still getting his goals on the run from near 50. I realise he can't run all day.

Injuries aside, be very surprised if Hobbs isn't in the guts (as a rotation of course) in Round 1.

I'd love to see him make cameo appearances through the middle if he's physically able to, gives him a real sense of the standard he needs to be at for a full-time midfield role at AFL level.

Season 2022 is really about setting the young group up for the next 3 - 5 years, whilst trying to remain competitive IMO.
