So most don't expect Markov and C.Ellis to play round 1?

Strange considering by all accounts Markov had a good preseason + he was probably our best young player towards the end of last year.

As for C.Ellis he has been a preferred player when fit, and for good reason.

Team selection will be awesome!
Both were underwhelming in the jlt games imo. But id say corey was more consistent in his two games.

Correct No Rioili. I like the way Sydney do it, in that if you can't play right now, you don't play.
They move on the younger players, not the experienced players, until they are actually being outperformed. It seems to work ok for them.

I detest playing players purely on potential. If they are good enough they will beat the door down.
We have done the playing players on potential to death for the last 7 years, yet our best players over that time where still the core players from before that time.

I think the game style & coaching determines if players and the side are good or bad, not the other way around.
Play a good game style like 2013 and suddenly all of our players will appear better players and get better results. And the Hoili's Griggs, Lamberts, Conca's will appear very good players, just like 3 of them did in 2013.

7 debutants did I hear for the Swans last year? So they hadn't proven anything....Oh and two teams coming from different positions.

Melbourne, St Kilda, GWS and the Bulldogs have all played blokes who weren't yet good enough but needed to develop for years before they started to come good....... They all got smacked too but it worked out in the long term or has started to... But if it's good enough for them, maybe it's not good enough for us.

I have the exact same team except Castagna in Lennon out

That will be the 50/50 call I think. More to do with structure in the end. Could easily go either way. How much will Lennon's 7 goals count for? Castagna's JLT form was much more impressive than Lennon's but Lennon might offer something they want in terms of a 3rd marking option if Griff struggles. I don't know which way they'll go with that call but I'd be comfortable either way.

Want to see Butler, Lennon, Castagna, Markov, C. Ellis, Menadue, Short all get a good go at it. But don't think we'll see the majority first up.
Would play all of them bar C Ellis.
Reason is im asking myself what role for Corey.
A poster on another site bought this up and it gelled with my thinking on him.
We have better options down back, he does not cut it as a fwd and atm can only play outside as a mid and he just does not have the attributes for an outside gig.

on the rest well their attributes speak for themselves and make it obvious what roles they should play some can be played in multiple roles if need be.

My team remains pretty much the same. For me it is more about Rebuild and development as it is winning games.
The following side gives a good go at both.

B: Grimes - Astbury - Castagna/Short
HB: Markov - Rance - McIntosh

C: Grigg - Martin - Menadue
R: Nankervis - Cotchin - Prestia

HF: Rioli - Riewoldt - Lloyd
F: Chol - Griffiths - Edwards

INT: Caddy - Miles - Vlastuin - Butler.

Starting to think we will go in like this:

B: Grimes Astbury Conca
HB: B. Ellis Rance Houli
C: Grigg Miles Caddy
HF: Edwards Griffiths Lloyd
F: Rioli Riewoldt Martin
Foll: Nankervis Cotchin Prestia
Int: McIntosh Vlastuin Butler Lennon

Emerg: Maric Castagna Hunt
Went with the same 22 except I had Castagna ahead of Lennon.
Emergencies Lennon, Menadue and Lambert (played his best games against the blues).

B: Grimes, Astbury, Conca
HB: Houli, Rance, McIntosh
C: Grigg, Vlastuin, B Ellis
HF: Martin, Griffiths, Caddy
F: Lloyd, Riewoldt, Rioli
R: Nankervis, Prestia, Cotchin

Int: Edwards, Miles, Castagna, Butler

Emergency: Lennon, Short, Markov

In for round 1, 2017: Prestia, Caddy, Nankervis, Castagna, Butler, Grigg, Conca

Out from round 1, 2016: Lambert, Townsend, Hampson, Vickery, Morris, Menadue, C Ellis

My team for tomorrow is looking something like this
FB: Grimes Astbury Conca
HB: Houli rance Bellis
C: Grigg Cotch Vlastuin
HF: Edwards Griff Caddy
FF: Lloyd Reiwoldt Rioli
R: Nankervis Martin Prestia

Int: Castagna, Butler, Maric, Miles

Emerg. Cellis, Hunt, McIntosh

Maric plays as its round 1 and we dont want Nank going down with cramp/injury due to not getting some time on the bench.
I've put Vlas on the wing, as i still dont know what they are planning to do with him. possibly Titch can go on the wing or Vlas will just play as a floater around the midfield even though he is named on the wing.

Surely we don't go in with Maric, Nankervis and Griffiths.
McIntosh in for Maric and you're on the money I think.

Go Tiges.

would you want Nank getting no bench time? i wouldn't.

why would he get no bench time?

Griff takes ruck while Nank gets a rest and we swing a midfielder forward

You know as much as us at this stage. If he plays well he'll remain in the side. Can't see him being dropped after less than 3-4 games no matter what.
Bad advice to a Pies supporter. Nice work. :thumbsu:

Tigers will win by 77 points and Butler will kick 3 goals, Definately play against Pies where he kicks another 2

But who knows after that

Yep, if I were Bookie I wouldn't want to be laying too much around 50 to 80 mark for a Tigers win and perhaps not big odds on first kick a goal either for Butler. He's done OK early on in a game so far - and be a nice little pump up for the boys if it could be manufactured.

Ok understand the flack and the draft history criticism and the fact that we won't be a top side if we have 4 first years players in the best 22 so let let explain my thinking...

First off we are not a top side, and the end of the season is a long way away, we have new coaches that are willing to try new things, we may even have a new head coach by the end of the year and who knows who gets injured.

Stengel is the closest, why because he is the best player in his position at the club already, a fast, smart, electric chaser and tackler who scores goals and creates them, has form against men in the SAFL, and blood lines from Eddie Betts I say he debuts as soon as possible, need to get him on the main list first, tough upbringing as a child and had nothing, will fight for his spot with everything he has.

Graham has the mature body so can play straight away, what people don't know is he is an aerobic beast, a guy that runs all day, similar to Ellis and Macintosh only a smarter and tougher footballer, us a leader of men who stands out in the crowd, unless injured I can see him play early, should have been drafted much earlier but injuries killed his season, has great determination.

Garthwaite was a superstar of the U18 comp, he comes to a team that is lacking depth and quality in the big man department, plays tough and close but still gets high possession numbers and offers rebound, can play forward or back and this is exactly an area where we are lacking, may take an injury to get picked but once in won't look back.

Bolton has the most talent, but he has the smallest body and maybe not the same level of determination of the others, however he is an ex factor machine in a team sadly lacking X factor and full of vanilla types, he has pace and run that we don't have a lot of and if he gets a chance will certainly take it.

Why now and not before,

The type of players and how the fit our weaknesses, some new coaching staff that will be desperate to make their mark with new ideas and some risk.

Our midfield core has already been strengthened by Caddy and Prestia so the outside players or flankers can be raw if quick and talented.

Our vanilla types are not good enough, our mix was wrong and we are looking for a change, also the game has changed and these players suit the style, first round players are making their mark earlier than ever due to the quality and readiness coming out of the system.

Also fast players need to play early when the game is fastest and the tracks are dry, we have been an average side with too many plodders and have been caught out for pace and run, if we don't change we will be back of the pack and then be forced to change.

In the end it's just my opinion, a stretch maybe but the type and style of players, the game mix and changes at our club demand they play.

Bookmark my comments and happy to to take the hits by round 22 if all 4 have not debuted.

just wanted to bump this thread as I copped a lot of flak in Jan this year before a game was played, Bolton has played and shown he is good enough and Stengle plays this week , Garth is not far away and many are calling for him now, Graeme unfortunately has been injured but I still have hopes of a debut this year.

Could Garthie be a tall option should Ben not come in. He has played a couple of weeks up forward in the VFL now , hasn't he?
