INTER Ward Meek Maginness Frost Butler

I actually think outside the goal to goal line, two rucks and one specialist small back, one specialist small fwd, the rest will be either the starting mids or players who can relieve through the centre, but also be competent in their role when not in the centre.

This way a very young team can last out each game and a long season against more hardened midfields

Morrison had a good season, but at the end of the day he was 13th in the BnF for votes per game. For reference Ward came 12th.

He played the season uninterrupted, only missing round 14. Whilst players like Day, Wingard, Impey and Reeves (plus Worpel and Bramble) had no continuity and finished behind him. If they are fit that isn't happening again.

We will hopefully have a fully fit Day, Impey, Bramble, Wingard, Meek, Reeves and Worpel available, plus our draftees and Stephens added to the mix. We have brought in Amon who plays the exact same position. Though losing Mitchell and JOM will account for two of these inclusions.

He isn't getting a gig in our backline and will be competing with some better players for a spot on the wing.

The reality is some players are going to be replaced or overtaken by other this season - and if a decent player like Morrison is being overtaken then that's a sign of progress.

For a team on the rebuild it's actually quite hard to pick a best 22, backline is definitely our strength we have a lot of coverage there and quality. Midfield is young, I think Stephens is going to be a week one starter and even a smokey for our BNF, he is my tip for a big year. Fwd line needs some work, need another big to help out Lewis, need a replacement for Breust and think we have up and coming players to play his role and rucks are very solid, I believes Reeves and Meek will be a force and Lynch is a good back up for the 2.

Sam said on the members forum last night that he’s wanting Day to play midfield as he can be more damaging there. He said Will is so good at half back that they know he can go back there at anytime to play is required, but he thinks that the side will profit from Day being in the middle.

And he has been training with the mids and wings, fwiw.

Yep. That's mine too.

Fergus Greene wasn’t recruited to be a depth player. I think he will play Round 1. He instantly gives the forward-line another marking target.

I want to see Stephens and Weddle playing rd 1.

Be good to see Mackenzie out there too but these two are physically ready. Stephens is 21, he's not depth.

I'm so glad to hear that. If he can stay fit, Will Day playing on the wing could earn him his maiden Peter Crimmins Medal in 2023.

Ward plays r1.

There is one player unless he is injured that surprises me no one has picked for the wing. Bramble is well ahead of all first and second year players. A lock for the wing half back.

My fellow astute hawkers to name a team with out bramble is another reason why so bullish on us winning excess of 8 games. Ther bramble is not a gamble he is a LOCK.. xx

I agree that it would be a great sign of progress if he is overtaken but really can’t see it this year and if anything he has a few more levels to go on current trajectory that should make this point completely moot.

Regardless of how it’s spun, he’s top 10 bnf and when you take out the blokes who have left he sits comfortably in that zone. Sam loves him and has spoken glowingly of him in the past. On top of that we are going to rolling out a team made up almost half of blokes with less that 20-30 games if you look at most best 22s. There’s just no way you not going to have Morrison who has continued to improve significantly since playing regular seniors footy and actually has a relative stockpile of experience something we are generally lacking in.

I think he’s one of the first ones picked, particularly for round 1 which this thread is about.

Tell us your best 22 for round 1..2023

Breust out and Brockman in? What the the fascination with Brockman? His highlight tapes are not that impressive. Its not as if its comparable With Cyril's when he was at SCOTCH COLLEGE.....
Brocky has shown a few flashes, but there's no chance he plays round 1. Coming from a long long way back and will need to break down that door at BH before getting a look in.
