MY Rd1 Team

Hardwick Blank Morris

Amon Newcombe Maginess
McDonald Kosi Moore
Wingard Lewis Bruest

Meek Ward Nash

Stephens Reeves DGB Greene CJ
I'd say similar but I'd have Morrison in Finn's spot and Finn on the bench instead of Greene. Possibly Impey ahead of Morris. You would think Worpel would slot in there somewhere but I can't see who drops out for him.

It is a tough one. I went with Finn over Morrison due to the fact I hope we really smash the bombers "smaller compared to others" midfield.

I also wanted another forward in there so Greene got the go ahead.

Impey looks like he has come back in really good condition compared to last year so could come in.

Worpel won't get a game until he shows some form in the VFL if everyone is fit.

Yeah, I was trying to be optimistic that his preseason form means that he absolutely demands a spot in round 1. I thought maybe Impey and Scrimshaw could rotate forward into the other small forward role. Definitely hard to plug players into the number of positions available, and that's with players like Brockman, Frost and Bramble not getting a look in, let alone any of the draftees.

B: Scrimshaw, Blanck, Hardwick
HB: CJ, Sicily, Day
C: Morrison, Stephens, Amon
R: Reeves, Newcombe, Nash
HF: Wingard, Kosi, Breust
F: Moore, Lewis, Brockman

I: Ward, DGB, Maginness, CMac, Meek.

That's the line-up I went with, then shocked myself at the players I couldn't fit in.

Bramble, Frost, Impey, Worpel, Mackenzie, Butler, Greene etc.

hey guys, just some fantasy questions here:

I thought with the loss of Mitchell, O'meara etc. that Moore would play more midfield time, if not full time mid? But it seems like the majority of you have Moore on the half forward line.?

Also, with Worpel, what are people expectations of him? He seems to have peaked as a teenager and I he looked the goods but it seems like Sam Mitchell doesn't have time for him or will be finally get a proper go again?

Mitchell loves Worpel & seemingly has heaps of time for him. I'd imagine that a starting midfield role is his to lose.

Personally, I'd have Moore in the same bracket as Wingard & Amon: primarily played elsewhere, but rolling through for CBA throughout the game.

With the new role Sydney Swans created where a forward tags the most dangerous counter attacker in the oppos backline(which Maginness played that role a couple times last year), Maginness might be starting 22 more often?

Didn’t even mention Blank who is in practically every list in here
Yeah I stopped reading that 2023 best under 23s piece after “The Hawks don’t really have a true monster-stopper as a key back, with Sam Frost about the closest approximation”.

Not to even mention Blanck is poor research.

I doubt Mitchell is going to hand out any free passes, and Worpel was in and out of the team last season for a reason. I think it's more likely that Worpel has to really prove himself and earn his spot back, which he has every chance of doing this pre-season.

But based on last season Newcombe, Nash, Moore, Ward and Maginess would be well ahead of him.

Agree regarding Moore. Hopefully he along with Wingard, Amon and MacDonald form that group of players that get to attend several CBA's per game.

I think Greene who finished the year in the VFL really well would get a chance in front of Brockman who missed most of the year due to injury. Unfortunately not a lot of pre-season games to prove oneself this year.

Hopefully clubs get together and play some scratch matches. Really looking forward to hopefully watching some of these.

He'll play every game, he shut down Dawson (one of the premier rebounders in the league) among others. Mitchell will find a role for him. Hopefully we get to see him play a normal midfield role from time to time too.

According to track watchers, Moore is training mostly as a forward this off-season, so you’d think he’s probably just rolling through the middle occasionally this season.

I don't think Sydney created that, has been around for ages. Max Rooke did it in the 08 GF.

I agree that Mitchell will not hand out any free passes, but we'll need at least 22 players to start Round 1 & I think Worpel will be one of them, until he's not. I don't think he'll be gifted games if out of form, more that he'll get first opportunity to prove his form (Round 1).

Will be disappointed if Worpel doesn’t at least go past Nash this season.

Unreal that I have no clue how to fit all the players I want in the side- no Nash (first in if someone is out), Morrison, Long, Impey, Mackenzie, Serong, Weddle or Morris.

I think given Essendon will use Draper as their go to ruck, Meek will get the call up to smash into him a heap. Reeve's has been working on his forward craft and I think this is where we see it come good.

Hot tip mate, MacDonald will be playing in round one. Stephens, Brockman, Worpel and Butler are well behind at this stage.

I fully expect him to- this was just where he ended up when I thought through it this time.
I'd say it'll be him or Stephens as sub.
My query on him atm is does he rotate more through the midfield group or forward group?

I know Worpel doesn’t scream class but the line “form is temporary…” fits for him.

I feel like some people are really wanting to punish him for a poor 2022, by saying so many players are ahead of him, because I would almost guarantee that the runs Worpel has on the board over his short career, and particularly in his first 2-3 seasons would make him front of mind for Sam and the other coaches as someone that they can rely on week in-week out, if he gets himself right.

He's had three poor to average seasons in a row following his great 2019. That's not so much temporary form, as it is a prolonged three year period which encompasses the majority of his career to date.

The main issue that I can see is I don't know how we fit all of Nash, Worpel and Stephens into the same side.

Hardwick - ????? - ?????
Scrimshaw - Sicily - CJ

Ruck - Newcombe - Ward
Amon - ????? - Day

Moore - ????? - MacDonald
Breust - Lewis - Wingard

Ruck - Impey - ????? - ?????

Two of those spots will be taken by - Blanck, DGB, Frost, Jeka or Morris.

One or two forward spots, presumably taken up by - Kosi, Butler or Brockman.

By my count we will have two or three midfield spots open for - Maginess, Nash, Worpel and Stephens to push for.
