I recall seeing highlights of that game, the next day I think. I'm sure name a game had it, but because VHS is now so outdated just stopped making copies, ran out or exposed of them.

name a game never had this game at all, they do not sell games that had no commentary. i have been trying for years to get footage of this game!!!

In 1987, the second weekend of the split round of rounds 16/17, these 2 rounds were played over 3 weeks. Collingwood played Hawthorn on the first weekend at Victoria Park, there were only 4 games played that particular Saturday afternoon, the other 3 games wereSt Kilda v Melbourne at vfl park, North Melbourne v Geelong at MCG, AND Carlton v Footscray at Princes Park.

Hawthorn beat Collingwood by 125 points, it was the only time i went to Vic Park when we actually beat the Pies, and it was non televised!!!!

Yeah my cousin is a Tigers supporter so I went to all the finals games that year. Been to a few infamous Tigers games over the years as well, was there when they beat the Crows at Docklands with Wallace's flood/keepings off (~2006) as well as when they beat the Bombers when Joel Bowden kept rushing through the points (2008) and of course the 2013 EF against the Blues.

Was also at the G to see them lose to the Hawks in 1990 and was watching the Demons launch a famous comeback against the Bombers from 6 goals down at Windy Hill in the last quarter via the A v B on the scoreboard.
bloody brilliant stuff!

I recall that game like yesterday vs the Crows. Made a post about it last week. Smashed by about 20 goals vs the swans the week before, my mate goes they're going to get killed vs the crows. I thought they'd win haha. Joel Bowden gee more memories. Great player, I liked Matty Rogers too. I remember both those guys killed Carlton and knocked them out of the finals race in the last home and away game of 1997. Overcame a 40 point deficit.

I went to that game too in 2013. That was a ****ing cracker! I was so close to unloading big bucks on the blues. Wish I did!

Not if you were the full back :)

We had a similar game we won 231-1; our full forward got sent to full back because he was hogging all the goals - so then he got possession and ran the length of the ground and kicked another one.

Pretty sure the other team had just given up at that point.

There's 2 goals shown during the brownlow medal count of Dunstall's 17 goal haul.

@30.20

Ablett kicked 9 and Lockett kicked 10 in the same round

Thank you - I had never seen that footage.

IIRC, the game didn't even get radio coverage that afternoon; we just got score updates during other games.

I doubt it was a great game, but certainly the first one that popped in my mind when I saw the thread title.

i can confirm that radio station 3AW actually covered the 1992 r7 game between Hawthorn v Richmond at VFL Park that day.

ah so that explains it. I wasn't aware there was no commentary for the game. Figures. ****n hell you campaigners were good then. ****en hell you're good period. 1992, loved the Dunstall-Hudson combo. If you got over WCE in week 1 of the finals, you would have had us on toast. Beat us twice that year in the home and away. Dunstall went off both times I think, and in the second qame even Gary Ablett played full back on him as he was just unstoppable. I think he snagged 9 the second game and you beat us in round 1 also.

that was the first game where he kicked 12. the 17 he got was the 2nd fixture. Not sure if you're aware haven't read the above posts relating to this one.

Was at the '92/Dunstall 17 goal game. Would've easily broken the record had he not been so unselfish. Was pretty infuriating to watch.

The '89 Round 6 comeback game was also pretty awesome. As a spoilt-by-success 13yo, I remember being completely convinced at all times that we would come back. Didn't appreciate the significance of such a comeback at all. Yabby Jeans switched 'Conan' Ayres into the centre to devastating effect- totally changed the game.

yep you're right. Sorry mate don't know how I got mixed up. Probably ate too many lollies that day.

With that Dunstall 17 goals game, I recall being at Footy Park that day watching my Redlegs defeat the W-WT Eagles. We kept hearing scores coming through, Dunstall had 11 at half time. The entire crowd's interest was on whether Dunstall could break the record, but it wasn't to be.

Anyway, I decided I must see the game and contacted the club on the Monday morning. Word at the time was they believed there was footage of the game and they were trying to get a copy of it. As you can see, those 2 highlights of the game were very good quality. After awhile it appeared we had no success so I forgot about it.

Years later, Mark Bickley was running the AFL store in Adelaide and he told me there was going to be a DVD made of 5 matches that were hard to find, and one of the games was the one where Dunstall kicked 17. He also seemed to think the match was available somewhere, but once again, no luck.

So, there seems to be this opinion out there that footage of this games does exist, and that Brownlow Medal footage seems to support this.

I don't know if this is relevant, but I've been told that the entire 1964 SANFL GF, the last flag South Adelaide won, is sitting in a safe somewhere and the person who owns it won't release it. I have 10 minutes, but not the entire game. Maybe that's the case here, who knows?

Let me just say, that as a vfl/afl video collector, i have spent over the last 25 years collecting old games, and i have managed to find quite a few "non televised" games over the journey.

All games were captured on film, some with just a single camera, but all games were recorded, that is a fact. Of course, finding these games, is an entirely different matter!

i have highlights of this game, about 2-3 minutes only

Yeah I talked to someone online about that (FB possibly), who also had the same. I couldn't just get the footage though, had to go and get something to trade with him. It's all about the copywrite legalities I think.
Have to get around to doing that.

One I just thought of was Round 20, 1993 Carlton v St. Kilda — the Saints’ first away won over Carlton for twenty-nine years, and without Lockett. Even in wet conditions that did not suit the Blues, it was a surprise. I have no recollection of any footage of that game, even brief highlights.

The same is true for the Round 18, 1994 game where the Saints kicked 18.2 against Essendon.

There is footage of the Dunstall game, though it seems the entire game may have been lost.

By 1992 all games were recorded, though not all were broadcast with commentary. It may have just been a single camera for news highlights.

For these games the whole game may not have been retained after they cut up the highlights etc.

The 6pm Football Replay would show a fair bit of one game (up to a half) and a few highlights from the others.
