Essendon we're playing an extra man in front of Ablett so those marks are extra special as he was using the man in front to push up while protecting the ball from his direct opponent behind.

He was amazingly strong. Kind of like Jr deceptively strong.

Not my favourite photo by any means but it'll be one of the defining purely football related images of this decade I suspect. Other 'big' photos that transcend it will be more the Phil Walsh, John McCarthy, Jim Stynes memorial photos, the photos that go past footy.

Footballing related, if the Dogs, Giants or even Saints/Demons win a flag this decade it'll trump the above, but so far this decade has belonged to the Hawks.

Chappy!!!!!!!! The winning goal from the 2009 Grand Final. Jimmy wide open.

My uncle took it, sitting in the seat I gave to him because I couldn't go to the match because my wife was 9 months pregnant and I couldn't risk flying down from Sydney (where I was living at the time).

In the next pre-season the Cats held a community camp in Sydney and I took some copies of it along to (hopefully) show to Chappy and also get signed for my uncle and my Dad.

Whilst the practice game was in progress, Bomber started walking along the boundary line chatting and signing autographs so I showed him the photo. It blew him away, and he too pointed out how free Jimmy was.

He then pulled Chappy up off the sideline to show him too. Chappy asked if he could have a copy- which I of course gave him.

Saw him afterwards showing all his team mates who were all huddled around it.

WAS A FREAKING AWESOME DAY!

Glad I didn't go or this photo would never have been taken because my uncle is a pretty renowned artist named David Wadelton- who photographs everything. Thank God he went.

Just wanted to quote this story so others don't miss it. Awesome story.

There is no way a Geelong or St Kilda supporter could have taken that photo at that time.

That must be one of the all time best photos from the crowd (photo of Shaun Smith's mark another).
