Not sure why Stephens is a lock in everyone’s teams
Hasn’t done anything more than all those left out
We're all traumatised from the paralytic state 90% of our players enter during the final quarter. No danger of that happening with him. Add a penetrating kick and reasonable speed and it isn't a stretch at all to have him in there

We haven't brought him in on a 4 yr contract to sit him in the 2's straight up. Particularly given the fitness level he's turned up with.

AFL Team

McDonald Logue Corr
Sheezel Comben Fisher
Scott Wardlaw Stevens
Thomas Zurhaar George
Ford Larkey Curtis
Xerri LDU Simpkin
McKercher Duursma Bergman Pink

VFL Team

Archer K. Dawson W. Dawson
Goater Biggie Hardemann
Taylor Greenwood Tucker
Stephenson Sellers Harvey
CCJ Maley Hansen Jr
Free Powell Phillips
Goad Lazzaro Shiels Drury

Pink's spot on the bench here really comes down to who puts their hand up between him, K. Dawson and Biggie. I like having one of these players on the bench as it gives us flexibility to use Comben as a swing man forward or pinch hitting in the ruck. I have Curtis in the forward pocket because I really liked how he and Larkey were working together towards the end of the season.

I think if we can get a clear run with injuries, our VFL team looks seriously good!
Well done. Fairly spot on.

I think Goater gets a game before Bergman.

Yes Michael one would assume you are correct.
He will be given ample opportunity to run up and down the field at a decent clip.
Very exciting, the team as I see it has so many gaps, of course those in charge have said the same thing.

I do feel for some regular or semi-regular players who haven't the luxury of long contracts.

1.
2.*
3.*
4.*
5.
6.

The above six haven't time on their side. From a supporter pov that is super exciting, well 3 have, as they are strangely contracted until 2025.

Bet anything that there is no way all six are with us for season 2025.

Sheezel Comben Fisher

Ford Larkey Curtis
Xerri LDU Simpkin
McKercher Duursma Powell Phillips

Pink will take Logue's spot round 1 until he comes back.

Stephens will provide much needed competition but I wouldn't like to see disruption to the development of a player like Goater.

I really rate Goater and he's got all the modern weapons to be an impactful player. He starred on a wing in his first game and I see him doing the most damage between the arcs.

If Scott's a lock on one wing - I would want to give Goater first dibs on the other.

I like this team
think CCJ plays ahead of george and pinch hits ruck

and tucker to be sub or last spot on bench if they extend bench to 5 and get rid of sub

CCJ has done nothing to tell me he's ahead of George. I want to give George a go because he looks so good in the videos. I can't wait to see him on tv. I have Powell and Phillips well ahead of Tucker.

George has not had a full preseason
or even played a vfl game

can't see him starting in the seniors untill he gets a run of games and form

finnbar will be CCJ competition for chf/pinch hit ruck

I don’t mind this, tho I think you need to swap out one of the 3 interchange mids for a spare tall.

Every iteration I make of the best 22 is without lmac, but in all honesty I doubt they’d drop him early this season. Ideally the best 22 of 2024 has Goater, Archer or even Hardeman instead.

I mentioned it before, but I don’t think Duursma will be a sure thing to start the year in the 22. He has to add a fair bit of weight before he is ready to play with the big boys, his tank also needs to improve before he is ready to play AFL.

We have plenty of options across half forward so there is absolutely no need to rush him.

McKercher however, can play multiple positions and already has elite running capacity, so that will hold him in good stead for an early debut.

I just don't get the push to play Comben in defence. We don't need him down there, we need him up forward supporting Larks and kicking goals. It's not as if we've persisted with him as a forward for years and he's failed, and now to save his career we have to play him in defence. He's a natural forward, just let him settle there and develop.

In an ideal world, sure, but Stevo has managed to eek out a 110 game career with essentially the same height/weight profile as Duursma is now. So I'm expecting we won't have to wait long at all.

Some were saying was to help keep him on the park

Have him crashing into forwards instead of backs doing it to him

That's probably the closest to what I was thinking to start 2024, except for some tinkering with the AFL bench ie Goater starting for defensive cover in place of one of the mids, if the sub role stays.
