Something I noticed looking at the VFL game reports is that the three you have bolded are consistently regarded among our best, even over AFL players sometimes. What's the reason they aren't on our list? Just not quite good enough for AFL?

Rate that AFL team! God I hope comben can stay on the park, he could be anything!

Watched most of the games last year via the AFL app and from what I saw all would have been pushing for selection in our AFL team last year, mainly because they were older, more physically developed/prepared, and outperforming most of the guys we have already let go (and some we haven't). But I think, maybe apart from Sellers, that we have better developing options on the list. Very good VFL players though.

Watkins is too small and has no outstanding athletic attributes, unfortunately, VFL is his level.

Downie was very unlucky to be delisted by the Hawks last year. He is a strong runner and a booming left foot kick, only got delisted because of a unlucky run with injury. I think if we hadn't of picked up Stephens then he may have been a chance to be rookied by us as wing depth.

Sellers is doing a pre-season with us and is definitely on the radar of being rookied by the club.

This is as close as I could get too. I think Stephens and Ford are the two starters that could miss. The bench is very up in the air too. I could see Sleevo, Lazarro (finished the season strong) and possibleTaylor, CCJ or Shiels in or on the bench. I wouldnt know who they would replace though. Possibly Tucker and one of Powell or WilPhil.

Pink's spot on the bench here really comes down to who puts their hand up between him, K. Dawson and Biggie. I like having one of these players on the bench as it gives us flexibility to use Comben as a swing man forward or pinch hitting in the ruck. I have Curtis in the forward pocket because I really liked how he and Larkey were working together towards the end of the season.

I think if we can get a clear run with injuries, our VFL team looks seriously good!
Put Hardermann in the AFL side with Goater and to the VFL George and McDonald

That's a bloody good VFL forward line.

The one playing twos won't be bad either.

Lots of Mids on the bench hard to fit them all in?
brayden George will probably need a good run in the vfl before debuting
Can Charlie comben play down back and do it well?
Callum Coleman Jones, McDonald , Curtis Taylor , Miller Bergman , Eddie Ford next best.
Definitely back 6 needs the work and depth

I like the random denotation of players as if they're primary school students lol. But to be fair, that's a good crack. You're aware Comben and Bergman exist, which immediately puts you in elite non-North fan company

I've assumed no draftees get picked Round 1 but i will address this as the pre-season rolls on.

I think we have brought Fisher into play back flank and I liked the look of Scott on half back last year. I think Fisher and Scott at half back allow Sheez to play high half forward as extra midfielder where i think he will do the most damage. Dawson gets first crack at CHB and hopefully he can make it his. In my perfect world Eddie would go back and play as a 3rd tall but the jungle drums are beating on Comben going back so he would the extra defender.

I am not as stressed about a smaller defensive unit as long as we get our structures right and our pressure at the source lifts.

My best 22 for R1 next year:

B: McDonald, Pink, Comben
HB: Sheezel, Corr, Fisher
C: Scott, LDU, Stephens
HF: Simpkin, Zurhaar, Ford
F: Duursma, Larkey, Curtis
Foll: Xerri, Phillips, Wardlaw

Sub: Tucker

Charlie literally broke his ankle last year attacking a player marking as a defender would. This whole thought about him being less likely to be injured is more to do with him playing smarter, not where he plays.

For mine, he plays forward as Biggie and Pink need to be given opportunities to prove themselves otherwise we will not have a plan for the next off season.
