Well boys and girls, come one and all and tell me your favorite memory of your time following the Saints! Be it recent or as old as 66'

For mine, it's 2 parts of the same game, seeing the ball fly above the heads of everyone in the goalsquare in the Final Term of the 09 Preliminary Final and the realization Roo had toe poked it!, the explosion of fans out of their seats at that time and the feeling of that 7 point buffer is something i'll never forget.

And on the same night, not the siren (although that was awesome in itself), there was an old bloke a seat or 2 away from me, with a radio on and I heard him mutter to his wife "19 Seconds to go" and the knowledge we were gonna win a Preliminary final gave me the biggest rush of relief. I almost collapsed in my chair!

Anyway, go on with it! Lets hear some Nostalgia :D

I personally think the best moment in that game was Roo's massive pack mark and clutch goal from 40 out to tie the game IIRC? or at least start our charge home. If he'd missed it there was no way we'd win and I knew the media/opposition fans would absolutely can the shit out of him for missing another important shot late in a game. I was at the ground and the first buzz was for the terrific grab, the second for the dead eye kick. I was directly behind the kick, sitting behind the goals at the City end and as soon as it came off the boot I knew it was home:thumbsu:

My personal favourite memory though since I've been alive has gotta be the game when we beat the Lions by 5 points at Colonial at their peak when we were just an up and coming side. I was at the game, the crowd was mediocre (everyone expected us to get flogged) but it added a bit of charm for me as I was one of only a minority to experience it live (I'll admit Dad forced me to go to the game:p) We started like a house on fire but knowing how good the great side Brisbane was, you never thought we had the game in the bag until it was over.

That theory was proven as they came home with a blaze of glory and Luke Power took a mark 35 metres out from goal a microsecond after the siren. We were 5 points up and he kicked the ball for a goal through frustration after the ump telling him the mark wasn't allowed. All the core boys at that time (Roo/Kosi/Goose/Bally/Joey etc.) were all only 20/21 years old and they were absolutely dying with excitement after the siren went and everyone piled on top of each other.

I still remember walking back to the hotel along Southbank in my Saints gear with all the people at cafes/resturaunts/drinking/walking to Crown etc. asking me and dad "how much did Brisbane win by?".. the joy I got out of telling these random smartarses that in fact we had won is something i'll never forget! nor the look on the faces in shock!

I remember that (Forced to the game too) Absolute classic I was only like... 12 at the time but I still remember going "Oh great here comes Power... SIREN!!!!!"

Loved it, but not as much as "Good handpass, Voss, Schwarze now! The Defender! Can run... and from a long way! Roost it! AND PUT THE SAINTS IN FRONT!"

Seeing as I only moved to Melbourne last year, all my favourite memories are from the '09 season.

Definite highlights were Gardiner's mark at the end of the Geelong game, Joey's point to seal the win against the Swans and singing the club song in the corridors of the SCG, and that moment with 20-odd seconds to go when we all knew we'd made the Grand Final.

Despite the bitter ending, last year was still pretty magical. :thumbsu:

Yeah there were a lot of great memories this year.

The complete humiliation of Port at their home ground during the Anzac round when everyone was expecting a close game. I think that was the first time I started to think we were in for a special year and were genuine premiership contenders.

Obviously the Geelong game in Rd.14 was a highlight. Just such a huge build up and for once the game lived up to the hype, one of the best games I've seen and that great finish with Gardiner's mark couldn't have been much more dramatic.

Both finals wins over Collingwood and the Bulldogs were fantastic as well. The win over Collingwood because it was Collingwood and everyone was writing us off before the game saying our form had dropped off, the Pies were flying and were MCG specialists etc etc. To come out and destroy them like we did was very satisfying. The prelim win against the Bulldogs was a highlight due to it being such a close, exciting game and the massive sense of relief when we got over the line, after looking like we may have blown it earlier in the game.

As a WA supporter, my favourite memory here is our 2 point win over West Coast back in '98. We'd been trailling all day and were around 5 goals down at 3/4 time and looked to have no chance. However, the boys rallied and we stormed home in the last quarter to snatch the win. The winning goal in the dying seconds coming from a controversial holding the ball free kick against McIntosh, amongst much booing and whinging from Eagles supporters Gavin Mitchell slotted it home for a famous victory.

What made that win even more special was that we somehow got seats smack bang in the middle of the Eagles cheer squad. After copping it big time from those halfwits for most of the game (including being told to go back to Melbourne, despite being born & bred in WA ), I wasn't shy in giving it back to them in spades when the siren went. Nearly lost my scarf after waving it in a few of their faces and getting in a nasty tug of war. In hindsight I was probably lucky to make it out alive as I was completely outnumbered.

Wins over West Coast here are very few and far between so you really have to make the most of them. Our 'against the odds' win for Robert Harvey's 350th here was also another special memory. To see our boys lift for a great champion like Harvey was inspirational, you could tell they were desperate to win it for him come hell or high water. I was very proud to be a Saints supporter that day.

This getting weird, I was also forced to see the Lions game, turned out to be a great call but also in the PF I was begging a mate who was listening to the game to tell how long there was to go, a lady behind me calmed me down when she annouced to the St. Kilda bay that there was 19 seconds to go.

My greatest memory is from a player who I now love to hate. When we were shit in 2001 and had won 1 game out of our past 17 or something Barry Hall kicks a goal after the siren to beat the Hawks. A mate who saw me after the gaame always reminds me of this when I talk about how much I hate Bazza.

I'd probably bookend it with.... my first match as a saints supporter 16/6/1991 at north hobart oval which was a phenomenal game standing in the outer. Ironically I only just noticed a certain R. Lyon played in that match

....... and the last match I have seen in person (to date) being the prelim from this year.

For me, nothing beats being there.

Two preliminary finals.

When Winmar kicked the goal in the last quarter v North Melbourne that finally convinced the always edgy Saints fans their team was in a Grand Final.

And I think I may have been sitting near Murraj, because I heard the same guy with the radio let everyone know behind the Punt Rd End goals (where Riewoldt had just kicked the match winner) there was 19 seconds left, thus releasing two weeks of pent-up energy and reassuring all the Saints fans we were in the Grand Final again.

On further reflection, I may have even given Murraj a hug.

Punt Road end? Nahhh sorry mate I was the City end behind the Saints cheer squad, M32 i think. In retrospect I missed alot of the fun, except I saw Milney's crumbing goal on the edge of 3/4 time, and the bad part was at the start of the 4th when Gilbo was out-positioned by Johnson and you could easily see he was gonna get it, I was pretty close to that.

Heading into StK v Bris R22, 2005 my mate was in a rush so he could back Milney to be the leading goal-kicker. We got stuck in traffic and missed the start of the game. Everytime Milney kicked a goal that night me and another mate went berserk - after the 11th time my mate had had enough and walked out :D

Unfortunately I did not get to see much footy live as a youngun, so the lasting memory of mine was at a training session and running laps with Spider & Buckets. Only other vivid memory being Optus Oval and a belting in a torential downpour so yeah, I'll take the training session.

Sheltered I know.

I was in Adelaide when we beat them in 2005 QF at Football Park (Harves BOG). I couldn't get tickets to the game & wasn't game enough to watch it in a Pub. But the next day I was on the tram heading to the show decked out in all my Saints gear. Alot of the natives were giving me hateful looks and snearing at me.

My favourite has always been the 3rd quarter of the 97 PF against the Roos. Heatley went bezerk and Harves marking and goaling from 40m out on a tight angle was outstanding. I always would watch this quarter prior to sitting an afternoon exam at school or uni as it always put me in a positive mindset.

Harvey vs Crows in the Qualifying final a few years back
Schwarze's goal to beat the Lions
Riewoldt's toepoke against the Dogs
Gardiner's mark and goal against the Cats
Gehrig kicking the winning goal after or just before the siren against the Roos about 5 years ago(his 9th I think)
The big 100 points win against the Bombers in round 22 last year

-Schwarze's goal
-Harvey's 350th against the eagles
-10 in a row
-Wizard cup GF against the cats
-Barry Hall's last kick after the siren
-Milney's 11 goals
-Thrashing the blue's at Optus oval
-Daniel Wulf' hits the post Who remembers that? lol
-Max crying against the dogs after losing in the dying minutes, man i was a proud saints fan that night, loved Max ever since
-Max kicks a goal from full back against the eagles ( 04 ? )
-Grand final week 09

got so many more!

wasn't that the fateful match where caven threw himself at pluggers elbow :)rolleyes:) K?

I'm old.
1.Bashing my sister, crying my eyes out as an 11 year old when the Hawks came from behind to beat us in the GF in 1971. I was certain we would win. I used all my World Championship Wrestling holds on her and was dragged off her by mum when I applied Mario Milano's sleeper hold on her. The witch ( Bomber suppporter), nah, nah nahed me when the siren sounded. The only time in my life I have been in a physical fight, so it is to be treasured, even against my older sister.
2. Bashing the grand stand at Morrabbin when we were on a roll.
3. Plugger kicking 10 against Silvani and winning against Carlton in the mid eighties, by I think a point, I was too pissed by then to worry about the details. Plugger would kick easily 3000 goals with todays rules by the way.
4.Any win at Victoria park, those old bag women who used to be on the boundary line fence from 9.30am. were the most evil people on the planet. They used to try and bash us when we were only 12 and 13 year old. NW showing his skin color nearly caused them to explode with rage. A memorial or something should be created to honor that moment. It ended racism in sport in Australia. Remember that for the history books kids it was a Saint called Nicky Winmar, not a bomber called Michael Long that was the source.
