Port close to the worst

Either old (Boak, RGray )
Poor skills (Boak, Ebert)
Hot and cold (SPP)
Too slow (Boak, wines, RGray )

We need bonner, Drew, Rockliff and burton to step up or lift

We are definitively top 3, we dominated every midfield related stat in 2018. The Pies are the only midfield I would say are better than ours.

More to footy then just stats. Melbourne along wirh Geelong got opened up in transition more than any other side in the top 8 and the midfield's poor ability transition from offense to defense was a big part of that.

Now that Polec and Wingard are gone, the Port midfield is definitely lacking a bit of polish. Plenty of contested beasts but they could really do with another skillful midfielder or two on the outside.

Russell and Francis brought in from Sandgroper country to win the '90 GF say 'HI'
Croweaters I think you'll find they were. They made their debut in the West at Subi. Francis got six weeks for that little funny kick.

Ours for 2019 has seen a major rethink, and I think the results will trumph 2018's effort.
Midfield consisting of:

Humphrey B Bear.
James Hetfield.
The Kid from " Hey Dad!".
The Hamburgler
Darryl Somers.

Rotating through to give the guys a chop out will be:

Toady - AKA "Toadfish".
Some Kid that McCartin beat up in Year 11.
Kel Knight.

Yep, we are going to look alot more ****ing serious next year .

Putting Melbourne below Hawthorn is going to ruffle some feathers.

GWS is better than Richmond. And Geelong 5th? Very generous.

WC mids were average before Mitchell got to them so we shall see how much Hawthorn improves over summer.
Feathers ruffle...meh I'm hoping I'm wrong about the Dees but their last final just seemed to demonstrate a level of satisfaction with 'being a part of finals'. West Coast mids were a complete different set-up pre-Mitchell ie: Naitanui and Priddis, but yeah good to see Mitch back and fingers crossed. Definitely generous with the Cats, for 3 reasons: Danger is still a gun, Selwood still gets frees and I didn't need their bf posters bleating
GWS mids better than Richmond's? Without Shiel?

Second in possessions, first in contested possessions, second in clearances, first in inside 50s and second in tackles (whilst missing Viney for the majority of the season) = the 10th best midfield in the league?

Lol, there are still some bitter Hawthorn fans floating around.
Melbourne were on 12 Flags when we won our 1st, we now have 13 and Melbourne have.....12....bitter? hahaha hardly! Check the OP, the extremely impressive stats you posted relate to 2018, the OP mentions 2019, currently stat-free.

Collingwood, have the best midfield in the comp.
What concerns me is the back and forward 6. For a long time they've recruited mids and ignored the fact they need forwards and backs.
Good luck to them, they are going to be extremely difficult to beat through the middle.

We've got plenty of players who can kick goals, it's the back that was the concern this year; but with hopefully a more healthier season next year, we'll get back our defenders (Dunn hopefully will be right for round 1, Shaz prob mid-season) + we can use Roughead in that area if need be. But get it right through the middle, and might not have to worry too much about the back lol

No mention of the only midfield containing 2 Brownlow medalists and the best player in the comp?
Interesting...
Geelong have been mentioned.

If we start looking a bit deeper at talent available after the first 8 midfielders, Collingwood comes out on top with the likes of Greenwood, Sier, Wells, De Goey, Aish & Varcoe.

Hawthorn would move above Melbourne as well with the likes of Shiels, Worpel, Henderson, Howe & Morrison now able to provide additional rotations.

Seriously underrating the past two premiership midfields you haven't even included Gaff for a start and labeling career HBFer Duggan as an inside mid makes it clear you don't watch games.

Interesting re Sier and Wells - they represent the two extremes of a player's career.

Wells has a high profile career almost behind him and is problematic with his body so may be considered a 'top up player' if he can get fit enough.

Sier is a huge unit who until recently has languished in the reserves due to lack of application concerns and a few injuries that is now blossoming.

Changing of the guard there one would imagine.

Also Pendlebury - still an incredible player but is beginning to come back to the field with age.

The smokey may be young Stevo - played mostly as a small forward this year in his first year and did well but recruited as a future mid - topline pace, good evasion and awareness plus a sneaky good tackler - just ask Jetta lol. With another preseason under his belt those limited midfield minutes from this year should grow. Will be watching his progress closely indeed.

Geelong is good on paper but they lack two-way runners. Lot of selfish players, Danger going for the hailmarys, GAJ can't even lay a tackle and jogs around without the ball, Menegola goes for 60m shots on goal when he has players in the clear. They lack balance and cohesion. Maybe 2019 is when it all clicks.
