I think beveridges contract might be quite big and that restricts the assistants we can go after. At the time he signed another club was after him, he’d taken us to a premiership, he was highly regarded. He has publicly said the soft cap is hurting people and suggested the senior coaches wage shouldn’t be included in the soft cap. Rumours are we offer assistants low wages. We also don’t have the off field advantages of bigger clubs to entice people to take lower wages.

That might be the case in recent times but this problem has been happening for six years now

Unfortunately I just don’t think we’ve adapted and I feel this season is going to be abit of a transition year with ups and downs.

We’ve been worked out. Beat our midfield and we probably lose.

Our coaching staff is thin. We never recruit big name assistants, we never have fresh ideas, our list is very unbalanced and our group looks genuinely confused when our midfield isn’t on top.

Bruce is a huge loss and if Tim isn’t going to fill the void, we’re going to be a poor side to watch.

A premiership and a grand final in 7 years ?

He took them that far, cannot argue that point. What is killing us now is the continual playing players out of positioning and odd match selections.

Positions don't exist, now. Zones a la Bev kill that. I'm not prepared to throw the most successful coach we've ever had under a bus, for a bad start to a season we were going to have anyway - unless you elect me to the football committee of the Board. D Mitchell for Board Member ! Bev's no dill. I was opposed to the dismissal of Rocket now even more so for Bev's. Appoint good leaders and back them. Bev's a little bit wonky but that might be his genius.

By throwing players like Hannan into the ruck, or use Bont with his taped shoulder, yet for some odd reason they refuse to put games into players who are more suited to the positions. Not to mention the glut of small midfielders we seem to have, yet struggle with key position players.

Even though the list is missing 1 decent KPD and a decent ruckman, both which should have been fixed over summer, it is the most talented list in my 45 year supporting the club by a fair margin. Administration and the financial position best in 70 years and recruiting has been the best in living memory.

yes we won a flag with a inferior list than now and made the GF in a Covid year. The world was against us so Bevo rallied the boys. In 2016 he was a great motivator. I have no doubt he can be a great motivator but he horrendous now as a tactician, team selection and a 1 wood game plan which relies on total midfield dominance.

Rumours is he does not like being challenged and surrounds him with yes men. Outside it definitely looks like that.

Some Supporters are happy with 1 flag and 1 GF flogging every 70 years and we hold the coach or player in such esteem we look away from the big picture and these men become immortals at our club. I actually want a club that is succesful and win multiple flags like hawks, cats, tigers and it looks like dees.

i think Bevo is a great motivator but one of the worse strategic coaches in the current crop, he needs a very good tactical senior assistant who he listens to. If he unwilling to change, evolve and reinvent himself he should move on as he is not adapting to the current game

Yeah that’s the sad part it reflects more of our non success in the history of our football club. Take the 2016 flag away we go out in straight sets in most final games and looking at this year form we played average teams in the 2021 final campaign until the final game and. we know the result of that game :)

Sorry you can’t say that ...... you can never take that flag from us so don’t say it

If he was surrounded by "yes" men mate, how come other clubs went after them? Gia, Hansen and King were at the club for 5/6 years. I can't imagine them going to work everyday and saying to themselves" lets agree with everything Bev says, and we will not challenge him." The assistants have their own careers and unless they are all suffering from some kind of mental illness, they want to advance that career. You are not going to do that by being a "yes man."
The assistants they are appointed this year are an interesting choice. I prefer not to judge them after 4 games. No one really knows how good they are. If a player cant kick the ball between two big sticks, I don't see how it is Spangher's fault. I find it pretty laughable blaming them for anything, but Hansen, King, Gia copped the same thing on here when the losses kicked in.

I think it is pretty simple. Start nailing your chances, the game plan looks good and you start start winning. It can turn around very quickly. The same thing happened last year at the end of the season. Few losses, Bev your times up. Win three finals and everyone's kissing his arse. Appointing A senior assistant coach seems a logical move. Don't have the finances to do it? They have cut back due to to necessity.

You can say he is a poor strategic coach but making 2 GFs in 7 years says otherwise. You don't make GF's solely through being a good motivator. Dud game plan? Assistants no good? Only ever play one ruckman? No structure? Players played out of position? Poor selection? Bev too stubborn, won't change? Blown quite a few games in recent years through poor conversion. Will playing another ruckman improve that? Will selection improve that? Will getting a more experienced assistant improve that? Will Dunkley and Bont not going up for a hit out make Naughton kick straighter?

Bev won't coach them forever, reckon his current contract will see him out. Would put money on it. Everyone has opinions on why you lose football games, but can't see too much Bev is doing that has anything to do it with it. Start taking your chances, start kicking straight you chumps, before you all turn us to drink.

PS. I admire your passion. I have followed them for about 45 years too and been a huge part of my life. Understand how you feel and hope they can win another flag for people like you.

I think he still has value but he needs help. He was an innovator 7 years ago and he and Montgomery developed a game plan perfect for 2015/16. Other clubs copied and it evolved to what the Tigers implemented. Bevo was fixated on the third man ruck rule change for 5 years, hoping it would be reversed. He is very stubborn and at times won’t move on.

Our fwd entries are really poor and we have a lot of shots from the boundary. Other clubs get easy goals, we don’t, this tells me we have a major issue bringing it inside 50. We clog up space, players go for the same ball and make poor decisions.

Hardwick was nearly gone but they gave him another chance, surrounded him by high quality aNd innovated assistants who took on developing the game plan thst delivered 3 flags in 4 years. Hardwick took a step back and it made him a great coach. Bevo needs to do the same. It is impossible to do it all yourself and this is why our team struggles against ordinary but well coached opposition. You can tell he is struggling in the box game day.

We all want success and very few want Bevo gone and think he could be very successful if he had more help. I feel we are going to waste a once in a lifetime opportunity to win multiple flags and become a power club. The past 7 years look very similar to 1954 - 1961. We should have won multiple flags and didn’t and look what happen next. We are in the window now and for another 5 years. We cannot let this opportunity slip.

The next side Bevo coaches will be unstoppable.

There will be heaps of articles around about how he learnt from his mistakes with us blah blah.

I am still a believer.

This comes across as bullshit that you've just made up.

I agree with the rest of your post though. Bevo needs to show a bit of humility and take a step back from the strategy and just focus on leading the group as a people-manager, motivator, emotional leader. Right now it just seems like he's trying to do everything himself. You made a good point about Hardwick giving others more input on the tactical side of things. I worry that Bevo is a bit too sure that he's always the smartest guy in the room and wouldn't let us bring in an assistant who can have some input on strategy. I'm also worried that Bevo is a bit overpaid and we don't have room enough in our soft cap to bring in any serious coaching talent. That's a lot of speculation on my part though.

There is no doubt Bevo's lack of respect for a genuine ruck as hurt us big time especially since the 6,6,6 rule. You just have a look at the dees with Gawn and Jackson and saints record when Rhyder and Marshall both play together. Ok it is a bit a luck and well as good management for Jackson to develop so quickly to compliment Max. However the saints went out and got Rhyder when he was lot younger than we got a cooked Martin. We even got rid of Roughead whilst Timmy was developing. We would be a far better side with say Rhyder and Timmy together and our midfield would not be made to work as hard as they do now losing the hitouts every week.

Oh no, it’s contagious. Chris Crant and Patrick Rhyder now.

I just hope we can play Martin & English together against the Roos, otherwise Coldstream and Cherry will destroy Timmy

I'm not entirely convinced it's a "lack of respect for a genuine ruck", I think it's just that our current options are awful. We had a good crack at Soldo during the offseason, and according to some we were close to getting him, so I imagine we'd play another ruck if we had a decent one available. I'd be more inclined to blame Nick Austin for not doing enough to draft rucks onto our list in his time with the club (outside of Sweet as a rookie). Or Milesi for not recruiting one in the last two years. Or Power for not getting one over the line during trade / free agency.

I think there's a lot to criticise Bevo for, but the failure to play multiple rucks is one of the few things that I honestly think is not Bevo's fault at all. When Martin was in good condition, we played him. Now, he looks barely VFL quality, and Sweet no better, so he's forced to rely on Cordy / Bont / Dunks to fill in the backup rucking duties while Bruce is out.

Give us Soldo this trade period, and I think we'll see Soldo + English for the majority of next season.

You make a good point with Hardwick. He said he wasn't listening to enough people at the end of 2016 and needed to change. Probably the difference is Hardwick hadn't had any success at the time and he had to change otherwise Gale would have terminated him, he had no choice but to change. Beveridge has already had success and is backing himself in to do it again and Bains and Grant believe in him. They made a GF last year and they believe they are very close to winning another one. I agree with you, we can't let this opportunity slip, but lets not panic after 4 games. This can change very quickly.

4 times. Seriously?!?!

sorry I am blind in my left eye and I am a refugee from the country of Jordan so cannot afford to replace my broken current computer (Windows 95 ) and replace the broken G on my current keyboard Please accept my apologies

Fk me you have time to analyze the data of somebody who misspells somebody's name What are your main hobbies and interest aligned with that ? Watching paint dry in a laundry :)

I "don't have time", I read your posts (though kinda wished I'd saved my time and hadn't) and noticed you called him Chris Crant 4 times. Not like I needed a CSI lab and bunch of interns to do a thorough investigation.

Just saying, it severely hampers any credibility to your arguments if you can't even get the club legends name correct.

Suprised there's any drugs left for the youth to take, seems you've gone through a loooooooot of it. ;):p
